I Have A Problem
Yes I was worried because of her age. Thank you for the support. I would rather she did it comfortably than on a cold cage floor. She is so funny. She immediately went into the nest box and started renovating. Pulling out the wood shavings piece by piece. And Izzy is being a very good mate, he is feeding her and everything. How long do you think until an egg will appear? As her vent is swollen and it's been like that for a few days.

Whet To Do Now?
Definately feed it but put it back in the nest box. You should pick up some baby budgie food at the petshop, but in the mean time milk is okay, I think ,and you can use a teaspoon to feed it. Just keep feeding it for now and putting it back in the nest box. You should pm Daz or Nerwen. I just pm'd them. Hopefully they will be able to help you.

Taming Tips....please
I would finger tame them inside the cage first. As then they have to step up on your finger to get out and have fun. Offer them millet. Here are some tips I just posted in this topic have a look: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....topic=12568&hl= You could also go to Terri's site www.budgietalk.com . It has some great taming tips.

New Budgie
Yep that is normal. they don't tend to eat for the first few days. One of my budgies didn't eat for a whole week!!! I would suggest covering all the sides of the cage except the front with a blanket, so that he fell secure and then every day uncover the cage slightly until you eventually have the whole cage uncovered. I wouldn't try handling him for the first few days, just sit next to him, talk to him, read out loud to him, so he can get used to your voice. And when you look at him try to blink lots, so he knows you aren't hunting him, because predators will continuously stare at their prey. When he starts to eat or preen in front of you that is when he is comfortable enough to be around you and you can probably start handling him then. I would start by offering him millet and letting him get used to your hand in the cage. When he happily approaches your hand and eats from it you can start teaching him to step up, by pushing your finger against his belly or by hanging millet on the other side of you hand so that he is enticed to go onto your hand to retrieve the millet. Do these sessions for 10 to 15 minutes up to four or five times a day. Once you have him happily stepping up on to your hand you can let him out of the cage to fly around. A big mistake that a lot of people make is leaving the cage door open and allowing the bird to come out by itself. This is not ideal as it teaches the bird that it can get out of the cage with out you and that it has managed to scare the human away, thus it has won and will be less likely to want to be with you and will be less tame. I hope that helps

I Have A Problem
Well she has been trying to have babies for quite awhile now, making nests in all sorts of weird locations. I decided that I would rather have her laying an egg somewhere comfortable than on the cage floor where she is uncomfortable and the egg will fall through the grate and she'll just continue to lay more and more and become exhausted. So I gave her a nesting box and she went straight in there. The decision was not made lightly.

White Cheeks?
I reckon that you should keep that little chick as it could be a new mutation, as those white cheeks are very even. You never know. Reminds me of an eastern Rosella.

Not Flying Right
I'm sorry to hear about snowball. I think it was probably something that he had beforehand, because my budgie can't fly and she is constantly falling from the height of about 4 ft or so and she never gets hurt. I once had a budgie who did die after he fell, but I think he had a heart attack which caused him to fall. Because he could fly and he was happily sitting on top of his cage and then suddenly he just fell off. He didn't fall that far, but when I picked him up he was alive, but floppy and scared. Then he just died in my hands. He was such a cute budgie. :hap:

I Have A Problem
Well some of you know that I removed my two budgies Isis and Arkady from the main cage and put them into a breeding cage. Well the two budgies left in the flight cage seem like they are trying to make babies. I don't really want them to as the hen is almost 5 years old. She is spending all her time running in the exercise wheel, but I have a suspicion that she us is trying to use it as a nest (all though I don't know how she would prevent her eggs from rolling off of it), she sits in it and the male sits out side of it and feeds her in it. I don't know what to do as I think she is "pregnant" with an egg as her stomach is swollen and her vent is showing. What should I do? She is obviously keen on breeding.

Let The Breeding Begin!
Well today Isis seems to be more settled in. She moved out of the corner that she had been sitting in for three days, had something to drink and had a good spaz/tantrum all around the cage.

How Close Is Too Close?
No if you pair a yellow face to a white face you will get half and half, because an apparent yellow face is a single factor. Punnet squares!!!!
-
Let The Breeding Begin!
She is definately in condition. And they are a bonded pair, that's why I chose to put those two together.

Let The Breeding Begin!
Isis seems a bit shy at the moment. Arkady is all going for it at the moment. How long do you think it will take Isis to investigate the nest box? I've seen her looking at it from inside the cage, but not going into it or on its perch.

How Close Is Too Close?
I don't know about inbreeding. But if you pair a YF hen with a white faced cock you will get half white faces and half yellow faces. YF works abit like the spangle gene. A single factor yellowface will appear as a yellow face but a double factor yellow face will appear as a white face.

Water management program?? I will change the water every day and they are going to get veges and grass, clover and dandelion.

Let The Breeding Begin!
Well today I put Arkady and Isis together in the breeding cage. They have just finished moultng. I have hung up a cuttlefish bone, and iodine and calcium block and a charcoal bell. They have a seed bell and a seed pellet mix. I have put fresh pine shavings that have been left to air overnight into the nest box. Both boy and girl are in breeding condition. How am I doing? I can't wait.
