Yay Saffy's Fostered Egg Hatched!
It could be anything. Sometimes they get squashed by the other bubs, sometimes they die from exhaustion, breaking out of the shell.

At First Glance She's Skyblue...but?
Funny thing is though. My chicky can't be a violet sky blue. Her mum is a mauve. She has black tail feathers, with spots of white on them (is that something to do with being opaline?) However her sibling appears sky blue, which has me baffled as like I said her mum is a mauve. Maybe it is just a really light cobalt???????

Yay Saffy's Fostered Egg Hatched!
Well baby 5 hatched yesterday. Unfortunately, because their were 5 other babies in the nest box inclusding 2 big bumba 3 week olds he got missed out at feeding times. So I had to hand feed him. I managed to give him two handfeed, but when I cam back to do my third one, I found him dead. He had just died as he was still warm andnext to the older babies, but he was stiff and lifeless. At least he got to enjoy some warm milk before he left. I was looking at him and he appeared to have bubbles in his intestines. So it could have been congenital.

911 Emergency
My budgie chicks often get bubbles in their crops and seem fine. I don't know if it is bad or not. But you could try and burp him. Otherwise. I wouldn't worry too much.

Scary Thing!
Just keep an eye on her. Sometimes when Saffy tries to fly she lands upside down, which gives me a *** of a fright as she is on her back with her head twisted round (to try and get back up), wings flapping and legs paddling (it's all because she is trying to get back up, but can't grip anything) but it looks so scary. I think she is dying or having a fit. But now that she has done it a few times, I don't get so worried. The other day, one of my babies flew into the windo and landed on her back. She was a little bewildered but was able to get back up easily, probably, because she can fly and is a young thing. On the counter, though one of my older budgies had a siezure and fell off the top of his cage, where I picked him up and he proceeded to fit in my hand and then died. I think he had a heart attack. He was only 4 or 5 years old. So I would keep an eye on her and take her to the vet if you suspect anything out of the ordinary. But it could be she fell over and couldn't get abck up easily. I don't know. Best of luck anyway.

Appropriate Cage For Runner Budgie
Often runner budgies (budgies that can't fly ) have some sort of infection, that causes them to lose flight feathers or render their flight muscles weak. French moult is one that renders budgies flightless (I believe this is what Saffron had). It is a virus that strikes in the nest and causes flights and tail feathers to fall out. Once they reach adulthood, the feathers grow back, but they grow back weaker and misshaped, deformed, but the bird appears to be normal. This disease isn't passed on from the mother affected, to her babies, as can be seen by the fact that Saffy has a raised a clutch with out french moult, however it can be passed on from mother to chick, from a mother that carries it and is not affected by it. It only affects babies and once a bird has had it they don't keep it. Here is a bigger picture of Saffy. I got her from a petstore, so I can only theorise that she had french moult, but it fits the bill (*cough cough* bad pun) as her feathers are bent slightly and aren't as strong as the other budgies' feathers. Another way is Pulpitus. This is a bacterial infection that causes the flights and tail feathers to fall out and grow back weak, however they never seem to stay in long. Inflammation and injury to the pectoral muscles (chest muscles) which are the main powerhouse muscles for flight, can prevent a bird from flying. And then just any general deformities can cause flightless birds.

Well, my little opaline violet baby has teal on her primary wing feathers, if that helps.

Meet Beaker
How very cute they are. Poor Rubi, she looks so grumpy. Just be careful with the hay. I've heard one member's budgie almost choked on hay.

Hi Im New Here And Have A Question Too
Hi and welcome to the forums. The males often get bored, while they wait outside the nestbox. It is good to give them toys to play with, (don't worry it doesn't distract them ) and you can also let them out to fly as well, for a bit of exercise. Leave the door of the cage open, so that he can go back to his mate whenever he needs to.

Seed Tray Emptier
Yes. Itha does it. She is so naughty. I had to move the bowl into a lower position so her kicked seed wouldn't go every where. I'd be sitting down in the middle of working on my computer and get covered in seed.

Awesome. I can't wait to see BBD photos. You MUST take some. It'll be fun decorating the avairy with branches later too. I think I need to go to the $2 dollar shop more often.
