She's a real cutie. She has turned out so well. Good work!
  2. Good on you Trish. What a lovely person you are. Maybe the finches bred before the lady was hospitalised.
  3. Emmett next to Didi bubbles the canary. Look how small he is. Edmund Alo preening Bacardi stealing the canaries' food Butters, Alo and up the back; Cereal. Butters and Cereal are my brother's birds that I gave to him. He has since moved out to where he can't have pets, so I will be taking these guys back. So there are all my babies and more after the big move. That's what I love about budgies they always manage to stay happy and chirpy no matter what is happening around them. They sang the entire time we travelled, which was a 7 hour car journey. He he thanks Libby. She sure is a sweety!
  4. Yea that's what I do. All doors are wired except the doors I need to use, which are padlocked.
  5. Oh that's horrible!!! I would invest in some padlocks for your cage. It is what I have done for my outdoor cage. Ooh that just makes me angry.
  6. Such a gorgeous blue!
  7. Hi and welcome to the site. I hope you enjoy our continuously growing online community

Hey Bea. We've certainly missed you. Heaps has happened since you were last on. I don't remember Zoe, so you must introduce her! It sounds like you've had a few too many scares while you've been away. Great to hear from you again.
  9. So every year my budgies and I do the great migration north to my home town once the university year is over. Unfortunately I can't take their huge aviary up with them, so the poor little fellas have to live in smaller cages over the summer. I couldn't take up their awesome gym either so I had to fashion a new one out of eucalyptus branches (which while sitting on the deck constructing it, I could hear a kookaburra laughing away, I tried to find him, but he was too well camoflaged). It was very hard trying to figure out who to put in what cages. I have 3 smaller cages so I have 4 in each of the two larger cages and 2 in the smaller cage. Today I took them out for a play. All of the outside budgies are completely moulting, whereas all the budgies that were inside budgies have already done their moult, so they look prettier, but don't tell them that. I also let out my mum's canaries for a play too (I think they were just baffled). So pictures: All of them on the gym Bacardi and Emmett got all smoochy. Commence smooch pictures: Canary Remember Saffy's baby that she had last year. The controversial one: As a baby Well this is him all grown up and looking mighty handsome. He's called Butters. Nikio, my opaline violet Alo. I played around with this picture quite a bit, tried to achieve something a little more artistic. More smoochies It appears I have exceeded picture limit, I'll post them in the next post. As soon as someone replies I can put the next lot up.
  10. However the impression that only air sac mites were indicated was given by the direction of the discussion. I was just clarifying that the clinical sign of clicking can be due to other things. Let's not get into semantics.
  11. Isn't it horrible how that sort of thing happens? That's exactly why I wouldn't tell anyone.
  12. If it had a cleft palate it probably got pneumonia
  13. I want an Avione 604 cage. Hehe
  14. Budgies like to play. You are a fun thing to play with when you go into their aviary.
  15. Clicking sounds indicate any respiratory infection or problem, not just air sac mites. The sound comes from fluids in the respiratory system, most probably from inflammation.
  16. Mutations also need to occur in the gametes in order for them to be passed on. If a mutation only occurred in a body cell, it won't get passed on to its offspring. Thus an acquired mutation will not be passed on. Because this chick was apparently born with it, the mutation must have happened in the parents gametes or before it divided into a foetus. Also red mutation may have cropped up before. The person who owned the red bird would not want to tell other people, because other people may want to steal it or destroy it. If I bred such a bird, I would not tell anyone until I had a large stock and had taken heaps of pictures.
  17. I meant that Americans always seem to be the ones to not realise we are a separate country to Australia. Interesting Haha Elly. Don't feel offended by it. Is a harmless joke. *gives a hug*
  18. That was a really interesting article thank you. I definitely don't agree with the current trend of awarding animals that are unhealthy, or clearly disabled, best in show, because they fit the criteria for looks. This happens a lot in the dog world. Watch "pedigree dogs exposed" on Youtube. It is very eye opening and exposes the blindness that many judges and breeders have in breeding and showing dogs and creating deformed animals that fit a cosmetic criteria without considering their health.
  19. I meant that Americans always seem to be the ones to not realise we are a separate country to Australia.
  20. From those pictures I can see some new pin feathers at the bottom of the wing that look like they could be flight feathers. Side note with french moult: New Zealand doesn't have it! hehe
  21. That will be gorgeous once the water has cleared and the guppies are filling it. I'm jealous, I would love a tank like that.
  22. I know how you feel Chryso. It's really hard not knowing which option is the best. You don't know whether the rads will give you a clue as to what the disease is and you can treat it. Or if there is nothing to see and the stress is detrimental. For me, I would like to get the rads done, but I just like to know. I could have done that for Saffy but she had been through so much that I thought putting her through more would have been unfair and I elected to have her put to sleep. She was much more ill than your little girl though, so don't be feeling that you have to head that way yet. Let the little girl rest for now anyway.
  23. I think it is better to make them step up onto your hand before taking them out of your hand, at least that way they feel as if they have a choice in coming out. By picking them up they are forced to come outside. I will only pick my budgies up to put them inside if they are being brats and won't go back in. Because coming out of the cage is supposed to be fun time rather than a chore. In regards to her training, just keep persevering.
  24. I think you mean a violet budgie. Just continue to handle him before and after breeding. Both my tame male budgies that I bred were tame after breeding. It is a good thing when you are breeding to breed more than one pair, so that if problems occur with one pair eggs and babies can be fostered to the other pair.
  25. That's looks lovely. Just wondering about the water level. Are you going to leave it low or put it higher?
