  1. You poor thing, I wish, you and your budgie strength in this hard time.
  2. Well the first semester is open for everyone. It is the second semester that is really hard to get into. :budgiedance: . However, I'm gonna try my little heart out. In NZ, you need to do chemistry, biology, physics, maths and English in school, as prerequisites and you must do 5 days of work experience at a vet clinic.
  3. YES, good one budgiebird!!
  4. I hope this is in the right place. Well on Monday, I start vet school. This is my first day of 5 hard years of study and then further years of avian specialisation. I can't wait to start!!! Yay. Oneday (hopefully) I'll be a vet!!
  5. So what you are saying lovey, is that males have two x chromosomes?????? That doesn't make sense at all. In all animals females are double X and males are X and Y. That's the first rule of biology genetics.
  6. Ooh yes I forgot, a decent avian vet
  7. I just thought that for any first time breeder it might be a good idea to make a list of what you require for breeding, so that you can be prepared. okay here's what I think: Nest box (definately) Bedding for nest box Heatpad or incubator Hand-feeding equipment: Bent spoon syringe tubes steriliser Hand-rearing formula Spare cage for seperating male off from babies, if he attacks, and for when babies mature Extra food for mama bird Please add to it. Also it might be a good idea to figure out prices, so that people know what they are jumping into.
  8. Yes Isis is definately grey on her belly. She could instead be mauve? Any way I think she has some form of dilution on her because her wing feathers have very light markings and her body colour is not that bright. It is possible that she could be a grey wing. Yes I thought that if Izzy or Arkady have a dilute gene, (which is unlikely, but still quite possible) half of the babies would be dilute. Saffron has dark eyes, however she has a white iris. Could she perhaps be a double-factor spangle????
  9. Okay, well Isis here is a yellowface type 2 dilute grey Arkady is a yellowface type 2 skyblue Saffron is a dark-eyed clear: And Izzy is a normal sky blue In about a year I plan to breed Isis with Arkady or Izzy. (I think Izzy) And I worked out that they would produce babies of these colours: Dilute blue, dilute grey, normal blue, normal, grey, yellowface type 2 blue, yellowface type 2 grey, yellowface type 2 blue dilute, yellowface type 2 grey dilute. What do you think?

It might be that his cere has started to change colour. For instance, my Arkady has a pink cere but around his nostrils it is starting to go blue, which gives the appearance of white rings. When I first got him his entire cere was pink.
  11. Here is a really good page explaining budgie genetics: http://www.geocities.com/budgie-place/p_colors.html Go down to the lutino/albino section and at the bottom it has 3 really good pictures of the different degrees of creamino you can get. Hope that helps
  12. That is so neat to hear. Porr little pixel. She is a fighter. She looks like a little flying tennis ball, which is kinda cute .

Maybe you should try clipping them. Whenever my budgie got a bit cocky I would clip his wings and retame him. By doing this it teaches them to rely on you to get around a bit more and will stop them flying mentally around the cage when you put your hand in. If you don't want to clip them, you could instead feed them once a day and when you feed them, you could hold the bowl so that if they want food, they have to come near you and sit on your fingers to eat. That is what I do when I want to train Arkady. You could also try giving them millet as well and holding it in your hand. You said that you had one bird that was tame, well you could try and hold her and that would encourage the others to come sit on your hand. You should have a look at eTerri's site (unfortunately I don't know the address) but you could wait for her to come on and help you as she is very good with birds.
  14. That's a really nice cage. Yes that would deffinately fit 4 budgies in it.
  15. They might be mites. Does your budgie scratch and itch alot? You should take him to the vet and they can do skin samples for you to find out what kind of mite they are and how to treat it.
  16. I know I have another post with her in it, but this is Isis's official introduction post. She is such a cutie. Her little chirp is sooooooo sweet!!! Anyway here she is: And some new piccies of my other budgies:
  17. In a years time I'm planning on breeding her with either Arkady or Izzy. What combinations would I get if I bred her with one of these boys? Arkady: Izzy: (the one in front is Izzy)
  18. What colour or mutation would you say she is?
  19. Here she is: Isis She is the cutest little thing and has the highest pitched voice I've ever heard. I just got her yesterday. It doesn't show up too well in the pictures but the grey on her tummy is purply around her bum and greenish around her chest. Her wings, tail and head are all light yellow, with very light barring. I love her.
  20. My budgie is 14 weeks old now and his eyes are staring to change colour.
  21. When I introduced Arkady to the other two budgies, he immediately decided that he would steal Izzy's girlfriend and now Izzy is all alone and feeling sad, so tomorrow, I'm going to get him a girlfriend. I went looking today, but so far there have been no girl budgies that have instantly struck me. I'm gonna go and look tomorrow, when I can spend the whole day doing it.
  22. Haha, Kakrikis would fit very nicely, but I don't think the budgies would like to share.
  23. Welcome. Do you have any piccies. We love pictures here. :bluebudgie:
  24. Good on you budgiebird you did the right thing.
  25. Actually I think I will have to get another budgie very soon actually as Arkady has stolen Izzy's girlfriend and now he's all alone. :bluebudgie:
