At first I came on here wanting to breed my, budgies. I did the research, listened to your great advice and then decided that it was not the best thing for my budgies at that time. I now have 4 budgies( I did not buy them to breed, I bought them as companions) and I plan to breed 2 of them at the end on this year. I am choosing to wait that long, so that I can do so properly and responsibly. :bluebudgie:

Well, I clipped Izzy's wings before I joined this forum, that was sometime in september last year. It was the first time he had had his wings clipped and I desperately want him to grow his feathers back so that he and Arkady can fly around together. When do you think he will moult? When I clipped his wings, about 2-3 weeks later he had grown in one new flight feather, which I have left in and he still has. Arkady is undergoing his first big moult and he looks like such a mess at the moment, the little nutter, I love him. Hey just curious, when budgies moult do their poos go runny? Cause that is what is happening with Arkady, he is as normal as ever, if not more mischievious, and I took him to the vet and the vet said he was okay. Any thoughts? Thanks guys :hap:

Generally you should have learnt those things before you get there, but they go more indepth in uni and it is to prepare you for getting into the course etc. I learnt all of this stuff in school last year and the year before, so it isn't too hard... yet.

Well at the moment I'm only learning chemistry and physics and biology to see if I'm good enough to continue. Every vet student has to do it. It is part of the course, but if you don't do well they don't let you continue and you have to start again. So unfortunately I can't let you in on any juicy vet bits just yet, unless you wanna know some chemical formulas, evolution and how to calculate the displacement of a car travelling at 30m/s for 7 seconds. :bluebudgie:

Yeah and put it in the sun for an hour or two, so that the UV rays kill off any diseases etc.

I am finding it challenging at the moment. I have a lot of homework. But the fact that I am finally on the path to vetdom, makes me really wanna do it. :bluebudgie:

How are you going? Update? Yes try and get him to a vet right away because it must be pretty painful to saty there until monday.

Maybe, if you can afford it; a small play gym for your budgies to play on. And some nail clippers. Take care though, it is best to learn how to clip nails by having an avian vet show you and if you do not feel confident about it, just get the vet to do it for you everytime. A nail clipping consultation at a vet is quite cheap. The reason you should get a vet to show you how is because budgies have what is called a quick in their nail and if you cut it they will bleed and could bleed to death.

My budgie's cere is like the one on the right. Except that the rest of her looks much better than those two budgies. I just realised that they were having a shower. oops sorry to the owner.

You are in the same situation as me. My budgie has scaley face too, however it isn't very advanced at all, and she is quite flittery and I have to give her this ointment that I rubb on her. What it is supposed to do is kill the mites that cause the problem. She also has it on her feet too. I have learned too and this time I'm using gloves to give her her ointment. . In fact I've got to reapply some more tomorrow. *gulp* :worried:

Sometimes budgies can be what is called oversexed, which is where they have too many hormones floating around. It causes the cere to protude, but not be infected with scaley face or anything like that. It often happens in females. Vets I think can prescribe hormone shots for it. You should look it up on the internet. I have a budgie whose cere protrudes slightly, she is female, but does not have scaley face, she is healthy and it is most likely due to hormones. My other female, on the other hand, she has a very flat cere, but she has the start of scaley face and I am currently treating her for it. Her cere looks normal apart from being slightly crusty. So yeah, find an avian vet and have a look on the internet. Also with scaley face it can occur on the feet as well, whihc is what my poor Isis has.

I'm worried that after a while it'll have no colour left.

I don't know if this is in the right place. Do you find that the colours on the dowling washes out whenever it gets wet? My budgies love pooping on it and then when I try to wash the poop off, the dye comes off as well. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Oh you poor thing. I know what you are going through. Once when I had rats, my budgie landed on top of the cage and the rat bit his toe. I thought that she had completely bitten it off and I felt so horrible. Luckily she didn't but my budgie's toe was paralysed for the rest of his life. What I am saying is don't blame yourself, it was an accident and it wasn't your fault. Like Lovey said, the fact that you are posting on here, shows that you care. Get your budgie to the vet as soon as possible, because she could get an infection and have resultant muscle and nerve damage.

Today was my first day. It was quite intense. i had 4 lectures in a row and then a three hour lab afterwards. . I just did an hour of study. It's hard work already, but boy will it be worth it. :ausb:
