Yes , i am a totall beginner, basically starting from scratch, especially with knolage about this breed. the aim is to purchase some quailty genetics, and start from there. i would like to show the birds fauther down the track, so figuer ther's no scence starting behind the 8 ball with poor genetics. this brings me to my delimer... how the heck do i find good quality genetics, and what to look for to determine what good genetics actually are to begin with. i would like to start out with 6 pair, and jump in the deep end right up yes, i hear you all giggling.. so, i'm hopeing to find some direction in wich to start from, and some good advise would be muchly appericated. i am on a disabilty pension,so have time on my hands to study and devote to this, and want to start out on the right foot. We have a few show breeders on here who live up your way. You will find though if you are planning to breed show types then you would be best breeding them in breeder cabinets and not colony style in the aviary. When you need to know for sure the parentage of your show birds, you cannot be sure of parentage in a mixed aviary. Link to comment

The school of thought is that birds who hull their seeds do not need grit. I dont use grit as such but the birds have access to fine mineral powders such as F-vite or marshalls minerals. About the perches, budgies really like it if you supply them with natural branches, such as gum sticks. varying sizes are good as it excersises the muscles in the birds foot. I love your set up!
