I think you could get away with it but the max for budgies is actually 1/2" Budgies can squeeze through some extremely small gaps if they put their mind to it.

A canary is what i want next. But i doubt that's happening so i'll keep it for a hospital cage or quarantine if i get any more budgies, it's a better size than my other one.

Welcome to the forums! Personally i would start with one baby budgie. In your other post you said that you're a stay at home mum so it doesn't seem like it will be alone for too long during the day. Once it's tame you'll probably want to add another anyway, even if it seems happy. :offtopic:

Don't get a tall cage. Width is much more important. Here's the cage i got for my 2 budgies today: It's really really good and it was a great price - $60AU. I know they're available in America too. Check eBay and you can probably get a bargin. :offtopic: It's dimensions are 18" high, 18" deep and 30" long.

  9. The link should take you to a video of Ozzie flirting with his new toy. It works for me.

You can see Cookie's crest in the last photo. He walked into the shot. He's also at the food dish in the photo of his cage.

At the weekend i got dad to order me some perches/toys from The Painted Parrot and today they arrived!! So that meant that i had to immediately rearrange the bird cages to include the toys, (Laughing out loud)! Here's some photos: Cookie's Cage: The Boys Cage: In typical budgie style Ozzie much prefers the toys in Cookie's cage. And in typical Blinkie style all he wants to do is check himself out in his beloved mirror. :(Laughing out loud): *new* Here's a couple more pics i just loaded from the camera of Ozzie on Cookie's boing.
  14. I have both Blink/Oz's and Cookie's cages in the lounge room with me at the moment because earlier i was rearranging their cages and watching tv at the same time. Once Cookie's cage was done guess who went in for a visit - Porky Boy aka Ozzie. He's such a little fatty! Last night he ate 3 grams of millet (i assume this because he usually weighs 38g, last night he weighed 41g and had just been scoffing down millet). Anyway, Cookie wasn't quite sure what to make of this house guest who was eating all his food! I can see why budgies and tiels shouldn't be housed together, Ozzie was hardly letting Cooks near the food dishes!!! Blinkie was also curious but couldn't quite grasp the idea that to get the food he had to go through the big door to the left - i guess he just didn't want to make everyone else feel bad by acting too smart. Ahhh, home sweet home, now for a quick snack! What?!? Muuuuum.....he's eating all my food!!! He's..... even..... ....stealing what's already in my beak!!!!!! <_< Oh gawd, another one! Uh oh! He's glaring at me mum. I think i'll be going now *climbs away* Yeah, that's right! Surrender to the Oz-Bird!!! Mwahahahahahahaha!!!!

Why not another budgie in a separate cage? Train the new one too and then they can come out for play time. I struggled with the idea of getting Blinkie a friend because i was scared he would bond to it but i went ahead anyway and now i got 2 budgies who love and interact with me but keep each other happy when i'm not around.
  16. Awww....pink blobs!! So cute!!

My ankle biting-wannabe chihuahua-crazy Ozzie bird is still being a bit rude but luckily this morning he's been too busy chasing and biting Mickey's ankles to annoy Cookie. Blinkie and Cookie have been getting along fine, they can even share a finger to be with their mummy. Anyway, here's a few photos of them all eating millet, the only way i could get them all to pose for the camera. i wonder what Mickey's thinking.....
  22. ordinary blue ones i think, i'll go have a look later.

They're much too young to breed. It would be like an 11 year old human child giving birth and raising a child. They're neither physically or emotionally ready for the stress of being parents. I suggest removing the eggs and nest box until all the birds are over a year old. Also, it's quite possible that Mike and Sully are siblings in which case they should never breed. :glare:

Welcome to the forums! :glare: There is HEAPS of great info for newbie breeders in the Budgerigar Breeding section so definitely have a browse through the posts there, i'm sure you'll learn heaps. If you've got any questions at all (even if they seem stupid) just ask away and you'll get great answers. And Mike and Sully (love the names of all your birds by the way) are inos (albino if they're white, lutino if they're yellow, creamino if they're pale yellow). One thing that concerns me is the possibly young age of Mike (Michelle), did you get them from a pet shop?
