A New Food
Tonight i gave the budgies a bit of corn on the cob - guess who likes it best. Cookie walks into the shot just to show he's here Ozzie thinks Cookie seems too interested in HIS corn So he applies the stand on food to claim it technique The ever interesting Ozzie can't eat food in the usual way - through the bars always tastes yummier And allows Blinkie to help himself with a barrier between him and porky boy Cookie can join in too this way group shot

Remember Tutu, My Special Needs Budgie?
Wow!! It's great to see that she can still enjoy life and have fun. She's one lucky gal to have found such a great budgie mum!

Breeding
I don't have partners for all of them so it's easier to just take out the ladies, also don't have 3 different cages to pair off 3 more pairs. I've figuired that i can let a bonded pair from one breeding cage and let them go aviary style and remove the nest box from the now empty cage and put the offending hens in there. Well her name was originally Gizmo (i had Gadget and Gizmo) but Gadget died and Gizmo wasn't being fed (they were the youngest in Sandy's first clutch) so i fostered Gizmo over to Buzz who was on one baby, Porkball, and i wanted their names to match - so i have Porkball and DimSim.

Hehe, i actually sometimes use Blinkie's desire to investigate the fridge to catch him when he's being a butt head. Get him to jump in so i can grab him. :(Laughing out loud):

Breeding
okay - first obstacle - brother sister pairings x 3. If i were to remove the 3 hens in question and leave the boys to maybe pair up would that work? Other than that there's no extreme fighting (just small squabbles over who gets which nest box) and a lot of noisy and, well, h**ny budgies. :(Laughing out loud):

Cleaning Wooden Playgym
Is a scouring pad like those metal scoury thingos you wash dishes with?

Cage Covers
I only cover at night, however if your new bird seems stressed by it's new home then covering 3 sides is a good idea to make it feel secure.

Some Cute Pics
Thought i'd take a few photos of the boys this arvo, they just looked so cute all sleepy: But then they saw the camera and quickly started to make themselves beautiful: They're both just starting to moult again and have been losing feathers like crazy: All these loose feathers makes a budgie itchy: And hungry: Mirrors are not ones friend mid-moult either: Way to kill the mirror Blinkie!

Cleaning Wooden Playgym
My playgym is dyed wood and if you get it wet the colour comes off. The bottom is easy enough to clean, just take off the gym part and wipe it clean but not the perches and ladder and stuff. I know a few more people have the same sort of gym (Penn Plax) so how do you clean it? For those who don't know the type i'm talking about here it is:

Who Am I
It's not a mauve, mauve appears much more grey.

Female Recessive Pied
Not in condition it would be white/blue like any other female. I JUST remembered i used to have a female rec. pied, here's some pics: And of course i don't seem to have a picture of her not in condition...but you can see how in some spots it's going whitish,
-
What Do You Think?
I say recessive because DFs usually have few markings but near the neck rather than the butt.

Spider Budgie!
Ozzie used to do that when he was a baby.

Breeding
Yeah, i'm giving colony breeding another go (knowing more now than i did last time i tried). I'm actually finding it very interesting watching the flock's behaviour with nest boxes present.

Breeding
I'll need to be reminded more than once!! :(Laughing out loud): Razzo's girls are total cows, Sandy in particular doesn't like any other hens even looking at her nest box (which ever one is hers at the time), it's quite funny! The boys are following their ladies around patiently while they choose their nest box, it's so obvious the boys are impatient for a bit of action. :(Laughing out loud):

Breeding
Found a good deal on the nest boxes, 5 for $20! I also got some nesting material so they should be ready to go. One hen has an egg butt so i'm guessing she's been mating before today.

Breeding
You'll get your photos when i get my eggs. :(Laughing out loud): I'm going to go buy a few more nest boxes to hang around the aviary this arvo, and some nesting material. Then i should have the 2 breeding cages and about 5-6 nest boxes around the place. There is a lot of interest from the hens in the aviary!! And all the boys are getting a bit excited thinking of all the action they're going to be getting. It's pretty funny really, the hens are straight into finding the perfect home and babies the boys just have one thing on their mind.... Except Gherkin, he's the best, he went to a nest box before his mate did and was checking it out for her, you can just see he want's to be a daddy again.

I Really Have No Idea How To Do This
Makes no difference in my experience.

Or you can put the nest box inside the cage. I used to do that, it's a little harder to get to it to clean but not too bad and if you have a big door it would be easy.

Ratio Of Male And Females In Aviary
I have more boys than girls and find that they're happy to share the girls around and if there's a girl shortage they'll pick a male buddy and cuddle up to them all the time. :(Laughing out loud): Girls tend to be the cows who fight over males.
