Love is in the air at Bea's Backyard Aviary and so today i've set up a few pairs as well as put a few nest boxes around the aviary. Babies should be expected from Bob + Kala, Gherk + Tiki, PB + Gus, Lime + Dimsim and a few other pairs. Any hens turn cow and start tormenting other pairs they'll be separated. Fingers crossed for lots of happy healthy bubs. Now, i need you all to remind me of this when they're 6 weeks old but I AM NOT KEEPING THEM ALL....remind me okay.
  4. This is a forum that me and Riebie made together a few months ago. I haven't advertised it before now as i was unsure if it was allowed. Please visit and take a look around: Pet Lovers Forum

I'm trying to figuire out how i can breed some budgies this spring, cause i want another indoor baby... :(Laughing out loud): If i time it right i could hand rear one in the summer hols after exams.

They don't know they're family but they are very bonded right from the start.

Here are some photos of some of my aviary budgies that i took this morning. Beautiful Jelly back in the aviary after being sick - scaly face is gone and no more vomitting! Group shot - check out Porkball in the middle looking up Jelly's butt! Jasper looking particularly handsome....looks run in the family (he's Blinkie's little bro). Ewwww.....frothing at the mouth....joking! Gherkin feeding his lady, Tiki. See, no frothing. :hap: Sandy looking rather pudgy Squeak, Bobby and Jasper - 3 brothers Porkball, Gerri and Patrick (Patrick waves hi!) Lime on the phone: Yes mum i've preened my feathers today, i'm not a baby anymore! Gerri just looking pretty Pudding being the little nutbrain she is... ...if she ever stops doing crazy stuff i'll know something's wrong!
  10. Hmm, his spangle brothers in the aviary all act like this too. I wonder if there's something about being spangle... :hap:
  11. Excuse the poor quality but it's darkish here and the flash washed the photos out. Ozzie discovered that if he perches on the food he doesn't have to reach as far to eat and if he gets sleepy or full he can remain seated at the food source so Blinkie can't get any. :(Laughing out loud):

First photo shoot of the month tonight. Here's some photos of my gorgeous fatty baby, Ozzie. He's such a cutie pie. Just chillin' Pre-scratch Post-scratch General floofiness Is this my good side?

No, i'm not! :(Laughing out loud): Cats are awful, make me all itchy. My cat repellant is Mickey, if i spot a cat in the yard i carefully and quietly let Migs out the backdoor and watch out the window as he spots the cat then chases it out of the yard.

The primary feathers are the ones you should clip, it's the secondaries you want to avoid. Do you mean you cut the first 2 secondaries (feathers after the bend in the wing)?
  17. Pegs are better than twisty ties, twisty ties have metal that's bad for budgies under the plastic and budgies being curious creatures may chew through and get this. I think you're budgie would definitely enjoy spending some time outside. My boys do.

Do i want to know what?
  19. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Aviaries
Looks great!! Do you keep other types of birds apart from budgies?
  20. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Cage Discussion
Anything they can chew to pieces or bells.
  21. Some people mix budgies with tiels (only in a very large aviary) but i personally wouldn't. Budgies are real little brats and bully anything.

Great info!! Here's a tip for getting your budgie to sit on the scale - use their favourite toy or treat. That's what i do and i never have trouble weighing them.

What a cute face Bobby has!! :(Laughing out loud): And an awesome cage!
  24. :(Laughing out loud): Sounds cute!! You should get a photo.
