Ivermectin is also a lot easier. Other treatments, i believe, require several treatments. When i had a budgie with serious scaly face i went to the vet, got ivermectin and you only have to apply it once at first and then again as a precaution in a months time. You will have to treat the bird she's with because the mite can 'hide' and not show itself for quite a long time. I had to treat all 20 of my aviary birds.

But to send one large enough to get thick branches off would cost a fortune and if you only got a little baby one you'd have to wait YEARS before you could start making toys. :oliveb:
  4. Blinks says thanks for all the birthday wishes! :oliveb: I enjoyed yesterday too because my big baby went all snuggley and when i was watching movies last night he snuggled into my arm and went to sleep. He hasn't done that since he was a baby, i wish he'd do it more often.

One thing to remember at pet shops is that they usually have no idea what they're talking about. This is Blinkie's cage. It's about 18"x18"x18" and is a good size for him to be comfortable in. It only cost me $40AU which is really cheap for a budgie cage. Just a tip but if you're going to be buying from a pet shop then the bird cages will probably be VERY overpriced so you can also look at rodent cages. They're usually larger, cheaper and have horizontal bars which are much better for budgies to climb around. Make sure the bar spacing is no larger than 1/2 inch (i think) and if you go for a rodent cage most come with ramps and platforms so see if they can be removed so there's more perch space and stuff.
  6. :(Laughing out loud): How funny!! Pretty is a very odd budgie.

    Aww! So cute!
  8. Well, it's official, Blink's is scared of his big ropey swing. I put it in earlier and of course he's now playing around the bottom of his cage (something he doesn't usually do).
  9. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BLINKS! My baby is a big 1 year old now. Here's some photos of him enjoying his morning. For me???? I can open it on my own mum! I'm a big boy now! Ooohhh, yay! New swings! I won't go near it unless my mirror is there too. : See, aren't i big!! CUTE FACE! Poser! Here's a little beady toy i made for Blinks yesterday.

I went out to get playing photos of the budgies and my toy and they've chewed all the bark off. Not very interesting looking anymore.

I will if it's still there when i go outside. I think i'll make some more over the next couple of days, they're really fun to make.
  13. He'll be out whenever i'm home, i'm sure. He doesn't like coming out for anyone else, i'm his favourite! And nobody else likes him, he's the "Evil Killer Budgie".

Not long i guess, Razzo was eyeing it off seconds after i put it in. But it didn't take long to make so i don't really mind.

Here's a toy me and my friend made today. It was really easy, just drill through some bits of gum tree branches and thread them together with some bits of bark in between each piece.
  16. I've been chatting to different people as well as bothering to measure different spots and i've decided to just leave him as he is in his cage. It would seem that i've underestimated my current cage because apparently that would be large enough for 2 budgies if they get some out of cage time. I'm not planning on getting him a friend anytime soon but maybe in the spring if i breed my budgies again? We'll see.

I fixed the post so the img tags are right. If you copy the thing on photobucket that already has the [/img] bit at the start and end then you can just paste it into your post without doing anything else. Skip is absolutely adorable by the way!

Match it to another green pied (like that) and you should get babies like that budgie but i'm not sure how you would get a more intense yellow (orange is impossible).
  23. Wow! Dad is such an interesting colour!
  24. With school getting closer and closer i'm beginning to get worried, both about school and leaving Stinks. I would really LOVE to buy Blinkie one of those flight cages (like Terri's) so that he can fly around while i'm at school. I can get one for $50 or $60 from the local pet shop however i have a few problems that might come up. 1. Dad won't let me buy a new cage (we already have......3 spares and if we got another Blink's current cage would make 4), 2. It won't fit anywhere in the living room. So, i now have a few questions. If i can't get Blinkie a new cage would he be happy in his current one (15"d x 18"h x 20"w) for the whole time i'm at school and possibly more time after school (don't know how busy i'll be and stuff). If i can get him the new cage and i can't make it fit in the living room would he be happy in my bedroom? I could make it so that when i'm on the computer, doing homework or reading i'm in my room but i'd feel bad about anytime i wasn't in my room. The advantage of the living room is that someone is nearly always in it and there's usually a lot of activity (although really when me and Tim are back at school dad'll be at work and mum will probably be out). Which would be more important at this stage? The extra space or the location of the cage?

Wow!! I love that cage! Your birdies would love it.....but then you'd have so many spare cages.
