    Welcome
  3. I think I would be kicked out of the club If I made a statement like that to a customer. In my opinion the breedershouldn't have sold a bird with a beak in that condition. Good job on the beak trim.

It is a shame but you just cant save all of them. The bird was looking up last night and dead this morning. Am having some of the poo analysed so hope its not something contagious. Could have been egg bound but i couldn't feel anything unusual around the pelvis. Just have to wait for test results.

Unfortunately this one didn't make it through another night. Was looking up last night but had died by this morning.

I'm actually thinking now that this is a parasite. Have found under the microscope what look like eggs of some sort. Possibly crop and air-sac mites or even intestinal worms. The bird has been treated with Ivomectin, meloxicam aurally and coccivet. Am getting some triple c and will add that to the treatment. She has survived the night and is able to excrete, is eating and drinking a little although still fluffed up and not perching yet. Time will tell now.

I have found a bird in my flight with what looks like a blocked vent. Is a hen that was in a nest box for six weeks with no success.(Did not lay) has been back in flight for 2 weeks. Have cleaned up around the vent that was caked solid with some moist poo underneath. It looks like it is trying to poo but cant get it out. has been in hospital cage for 3 hrs and there is no poo on floor. Vent looks inflamed. Not sure what action to take with this 1. any ideas other than a Vet visit. thanks Paulie

    what are the parents? 1.0 being cock and 0.1 being hen. I think that is correct though Some one pls correct me if I'm wrong Basic for cin cock X non cin hen Xcin X 1.0 X Y 0.1 Xcin X 1.0 25% Xcin Y 0.1 25% XX 1.0 25% XY 0.1 25% or Xcin Xcin 1.0 X Y 0.1 Xcin X 1.0 50% Xcin Y 0.1 50%
  9. Hi Kiwi As I am in Australia I'm not rely aware of who in the US is good or not. Have heard good reports abt Dr Foster products but haven't used them my self. I'm pretty skeptical abt any processed product that claims to be a complete food, some are quite good and some are terrible. As to how long 35lb of the product will last I cannot say, depends on how many birds you have, what other foods are served and how much is waste. I use a base seed mix that contains Canary seed, Japanese Millet, Shiro Millet, White french millet,Panicum, Panorama Millet, Veg oil, iodine Vit A, Vit D3, VitE. to this I add abt 10% steam rolled oats husk on and abt 10% grey stripe sunflower seed. Then add fresh vegies and or fresh grasses. today they got a big feed of wild Rye Grass with milk seed in tact and a selection of germinated and growing millets ect. These are just the seed as described thrown onto the top of a pot pot using coco fiber and perlite medium water cover with bird net and let grow. "See picture" this is after abt 20 min in the flight was 200mm tall they just love it I always offer more food than needed, especially when trying to get hens into breeding condition. A land of plenty is conducive to breeding
  10. You can tame almost any budgie with patience. By hand fed do you mean removed from nest and hand reared or being fed from the hand as a fledgling? 6 weeks is 42 days and should be fine. I will sell birds at 45 days if they have matured enough and by 45 days most have. I wouldn't bother abt looking for birds that have being previously handled or pre-tamed. I consider to be a baby until first molt. Then become a juvenile until 10 months. After 10 months i consider them adault

'BUDGIE L0V3R Not sure if i understand the question but here goes. Cinnamon gene works much the same way as ino gene ;ie hen cannot be split cinnamon, The cinnamon gene can also crossover or mix with the ino gene as their loci are located extremely closely within the structure of the carrying chromosome. If you use the charts from SunshinEs other post and replace "ino" with "cin" you should be able to work it out. not withstanding ino-cin Xover. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=32829&hl=

Kiwi, Couldn't say exactly what age she spoke, got her from a pet shop on a whim. First time I've had a hen that is this bonded, would live on my shoulder if let her. Kiwi Just took a look back over this thread and i estimate would have been abt 90-100 days
  15. Simple answer is that if, cock is split ino X lutino hen you will get ino hen and cocks. if cock is not split ino X lutino hen, you will get split ino cocks (not visual ino) and ino hens.
  16. The bird you looking at looks like a Bl YF spangle. The YF leaving a light suffusion of yellow in the base colour producing turquoise.
  17. Now is the time where you can take full advantage to bond with your new budgie buy sitting and talking quietly to your bird by the cage uncovered. Mabe rest you hand just inside the cage with a little bit of food. If you can form a bond your bird now will be better for it as they are a flocking bird (wild flocks can run into the millions of individuals) and as such will bond with humans quite easily in the absence of other birds. The only time will cover a cage is when I have a sick or injured bird. They are a hardy little creature and they crave attention wheather it be avian or human. paulie Your bird could be a Dark-eyed clear or Df Spangle, if albino the eyes will be pink-red.

(Is inter-club competition that fierce!!) Competition is friendly, but after the amount of effort and expense that breeders go to to produce quality birds many are dubious about persons not registered by a club and there for the possibility of being robbed. There have been many thefts due to not screening persons allowed to view an breeding aviary. When you consider that some breeders have birds that can fetch many thousands of dollars and have taken years to produce you cant blame them for being cautious. If you are wanting to find mentor and purchase quality birds join a club locally. This was the best move I have made concerning budgies and have been able to obtain excellent guidance and quality stock birds. NOTE NO BREEDER WILL SELL YOU THEIR BEST STOCK. 21. Pheobes I have a couple of very similar birds, could mail you 1 but don't think it would survive the post pac.
  22. My experience so far has shown me that birds that have ample food are more willing to nibble and explore other food stuffs, and a bird that isn't getting what it normally looks for it will be reluctant to try new food as they don't initially recognise it as such.

budgie lov3r your question " I am amazed of how different the yellows can be on birds, could any body tell me how I could get the lacewings yellow to become darker?" Cinnamon gene will reduce the vibrancy of the body colour resulting in a paler body colour.
