the smaller of Ames and Crackers's three looks like it isn't getting fed in this picture.
  3. I wouldn't be to worried abt it unless the nest box is particularly small. Possibly have some hand raising formula and a feeding spoon on hand just in case the younger babies a not able to compete for food. Are these the ones pictured in your other post?
  4. Round 2 is well and truly under way. Box 1 light green cin wing spangle cock X dk1 green normal hen 2 Grey1 normal cock X Grey Rec pied cin wing sp hen 3 Olive dk2 normal cock X Looks like Df spangle with cin wing spots. Am realy not to sure how to describe her visual. 4 has 5 eggs(WOULD HAVE BEEN 6 BUT 2ND LAID WAS DAMAGED doh)Olive body spangle/opaline cock X DF Spangle Y hen 5 has 8 eggs Olive body yellow wing opaline /Spangle cock X cobalt normal hen So its off an running again. Phoebes Im not a fan of pellets for the simple reasons that budgies are seed, fruit, veggie and grass eaters. Also the nutritional value claimed of pellets is generally lost due to the high temperatures used in the extrusion process. Can you obtain steam cut high quality lucerne chaff? It is cheap AU$25.00 for 25Kg.That will keep me supplied for abt 6 months if kept dry. Budgies love it & it is high in most things that they need. I feed mixed millet seed with abt 5% sunflower seed, Egg and biscuit, fresh fruits and veggies and lucerne chaff.

heatherc3 I guess the first things I would look for are husbandry or environmental causes. Look at the basics. Once you have ruled out husbandry look at the total environment. Things like are there any plants near the cage that he may be nibbling on. (pretty regular cause vomiting budgies) consider water quality in the area. Mid Nth coast water has a notoriously PH level. There are a few people in know on the mid north coast are using water softeners to lower the PH of the water they give their birds. Not definite answer but something to look at seeing, from what I understand, he seems to get sick when he is given plain water. Another thing that comes to mind is that you bird may be having reactions to additives present in your drinking water. On my last trip through the area i did notice that tap water was heavily chlorinated and gave me runns. Possibly you could try offering filtered water or bottled water as suggested by Phoebes and see how he goes with that. Seems the vet your seeing is treating a symptom and missing the cause Hope this helps Paulie

Hi Phoebes. after looking at the first picture thought may have been mites as there seemed to be pinholes in here cere. Having seen subsequent pics Id agree that it is her going out of breeding condition. As far as your vet trip goes either the cage or cardboard box will be fine, and I think it will be more stressful for you than the bird.
  9. The only ones ill be keeping from this lot are The Violet, Cobalt spangle. Sky Op, and 1 olive Yellow wing spangle.

My birds get an orange stain from carrot. from what i can see in your picture phoebes, id consider treating for scaly face mites with a dose of ivomectin.

  16. okay a few names as I know them; Black eyed self = Semi albinism. An Albino with black eyes. DF spangle = looks like BES but has white iris rings and is not albinism. Albino/Lutino = full albinism with bird displaying only the base colour (white or Yellow) with pink eyes and light pink skin.cocks display a pink cere for life and hens cere develops normally.

  22. paulie replied to markymark's post in a topic in What Sex Is My Budgie?
How long has the nest box been attached to their cage? it may take some time before they take a real interest. It was several months before I got any interest in nesting, now they are laying round 2 with chicks still popping in and out.

Hi And welcome. These little buggers are contagious and great fun. For posting pictures see L_J post there is a link on how to upload pics.
  24. Be aware that the wire gap in the black cage(XL Parrot Escape Jumbo Corner Bird Cage Aviary) is 1.7 cm designed for larger Parrots. Recommended for budgies is 1.2mm so they cant slip through the wires. The cage suggested by L_J is a far better proposition for budgies.
  25. I agree Df Dom Pied. That is 1 heavy wing clip.
