  1. hi and welcome to the flock
  2. Thanks, we walked in and I saw her and I was like, we'll take this one and a white male. We got it home and my wife said, the bird looks like it has red eyes, so we looked it up and we saw Lutino and said that's the one we got. We will post a picture of the white male with a touch of blue, not enough to show but enough to notice. I had a hard time getting this picture, as soon as it saw the camera, it kept moving side to side really fast, it was hilarious.
  3. looking good Kaz . Our hen is sitting on four and if she lays anymore, at the pace she has been laying, she will lay another tonight.
  4. The one male Budgie we have Zander, he is in a cage with his mate willow, whom he feeds and preens every day. But I've noticed that he hangs on the cage side and socializes with the hen next to him. Our Danish Recessive Pied bird, whom thanks to Ken Yorke's Variety Bible, is now positively identified as a male. I recently moved the cage to a different part of the room to give change of scenery as he is the only bird in the cage. He was eating his seed out of his dish one day. He would take a few pecks, then start staring at the other budgies, It was comical to watch. We recently purchased a Lutino and a white male the other day and we got a good sized cage for them. My wife is in a chair due to her meniere's, as we went throught the mall to get more food for the Budgies, we had all kinds of people come up to us and comment on the cage. The birds were in a box at the bottom of the cage and chirping away . Needless to say we certainly stood out that day. Will post picture of Lutino Bird with the white male, so we can get a positive ID on sex, we are think a hen, but not quite sure.
  5. Beautiful birds I might add. We have a pair breeding right now. A violet male and not sure what Hedwig is, we have an ideal, but need to study the Budgie variety Bible more, lol. Again job well done :-). This is our first attempt at breeding we have all our fingers crossed and lots of praying.
  6. Our one hen is laying eggs, four to date. We are wondering if they will trigger the other six pairs of budgies into breeding mode? We don't have nesting boxes in any of the other cages. We were wondering, just so we don't get caught off guard again. The cages are all within close proximity of each other. I do know of one other pair that has had "budgie love", but that was about two months ago, but nothing ever came of it.
  7. As of today, there is three eggs in the nesting box. She seems to be laying an egg every other day and the third one got laid today. My two kids got a lesson in Budgie love, when she came out of the box and they started mating right in front of the kids. I am curious as to why they would do that in the middle of her egg laying/incubating. She comes out and he feeds her then he chases her back into the box, it is comical to watch. He flies back and forth to the box and back screeching at her. She pecked him the head, once when he screeched at her. We are doubling up on the seed and placing fresh veggies in as well. He eats the egg and biscuit like crazy and when she comes out she goes after that and the mineral block as well. We placed vitamins in the water, as he looks a little disheveled lol. As I said before we are getting everything lined up for after they are hatched. I noticed sometimes the eggs are out of the center, and when looked again, they are back in the center. We are both nervous and excited at this, and I have read and reread every post on the forum in regards to breeding. One good thing, this will keep us out of the petshop for awhile, so we won't have time to "window shop" for budgies. We do that and we always tend to buy one, our latest addition is what looks like a Lutino hen. She is bright yellow with white on the tips of the wings and tail. Will keep you all updated.
  8. wow, what a beautiful Budgie. We have a male similar to him. I was hooked on him the first time I saw him and talked the wife into buying him, well it did not take much convincing. The petshop owner told us he was a fluoro Budgie, boy did that get alot of laughs on here, lol. We as a rule do not put mirrors in the cages as to the mental issues that can possibly develop. We have seven pairs of Budgies and amazingly I can tell by the sound or screech of the chirp, I can tell exactly which Budgie made that sound. Enjoy your Budgie and welcome the forum.
  9. [ Thanks so much to all, we did move the 2nd egg into the box and she threw it out, she has since laid egg number three, in the box perfect centre lol . She threw out the feathers we put in there. This morning both of them were in the box, don't know what that was all about lol. So we wait on bated breath, we are getting all the necessary equipment for when the chick or chicks arrive. You all have and continue to be a very big help to us, cannot thank you all enough
  10. both male and female are over year old. We just happened to walk by the cage and noticed she was on the bottom of the cage and our hearts were in our throats. she is our mauve and white hen and Kramer is the purple male one. She moved away and we saw an egg laying on the floor of the cage. We are like if they breed they breed, we are not in it for money or anything, but if they do breed, we are hoping they produce a purple hen. I have been studying until my eyes bug out on the breeding thing. We have made sure there is plenty of food and we have placed in egg and biscuit feeder. We really don't have another cage to move them into, as they are in one of our largest cages. We are however purchasing two more large cages this week, and probably will move them to the different cage. You mentioned moving her alone, they are bonded pair, will that interfere with the bond and how long before we can place Kramer into the cage along with her. Someone told us to just move the eggs into nesting box and all will be fine, I however have my doubts having experience birds in the wild rejecting eggs that were touched. She goes into the nesting box and is in and out, I know this for all the feathers all over the floor that she threw out, that my wife had placed in it. We love all of our budgies dearly and do not want anything to happen. We do the vitamin thing about twice a week and have plenty of food on hand. One other question before I close, will her laying eggs trigger our other pairs of budgies, we have six pairs all together with two single ones. Thanks Kaz, and will keep in touch. Will try the changing the cage thing.
  11. cage. She just started laying eggs on the bottom of the cage. will take your advice and take it out, but what bout her laying eggs all over the bottom of the cage. Thanks Ratzy for the advice . The Box was not even attached to the cage when she started laying the eggs, which is what has us puzzled, why is she laying eggs, when there is no breeding box attached. I have been researching and studying. I am trying to figure out what triggered her to start laying eggs. unless it was the lights on for too long.
  12. One of our hens has started laying eggs, there is no nesting box in the cage. She is laying them on the grate of the cage. After the first egg was laid, we introduced a nesting box to the cage. The Male Budgie Kramer kept flying back and forth from the box entrance to where the hen was sitting and back to the box. She laid a second egg, again on the floor of the cage. How do you get a hen to lay them in the box and not the cage floor. This morning Kramer went inside the box and we could hear him tapping all over the nesting box. So far, there has not been anymore eggs laid, but we get anxious everytime she goes down to the cage floor. Both eggs that were laid on the floor have not survived, we are worried that she will keep laying to replace eggs that have been broken. please advise . We have plenty of egg and biscuit in there for her and him, we are worried about the calcium level of each bird, so we place that in each cage of budgies we have.
  13. We just added another hen, we named her Willow. This makes ummmm number 12 and counting lol.. She is doing good in quarantine. She flew right out of the box right into the quarantine cage. She appears to be a violet with grey, because the violet does not look as brilliant on her as it does Kramer. her cheek patches are a really vibrant violet colour. We have to put aside a day when we can take the pics of all the ones we have recently purchased and post up.
  14. Our nick name is my first name and part of my wife's middle name and the numbers are our combined birth years
  15. not sure on the cage sizes but congrats on the 12 new Budgies to your flock. We have eleven of them, with four out of quarantine and 7 of them still in it.
  16. we manage to make space in the garage for the quarantine, the main cages for cleared birds are in the house, the olive green is in another quarantine cage in that area. We had just put her in into her cage, with only two bites from her this time lol. he was across the garage in cage. Ollie our light green budgie is almost ready to clear quarantine and be put in one of the main cages. I keep a record of when we got the birds, where they are from, what treatments we have done such as spraying them with mite treatment and giving them some vitamins in the water. Might have to purchase more cages for quarantine as it looks like we need more out there. We noticed two of the birds recently bought have breeding bands on them both NSW, but not sure as who it may be as I haven't caught then and held them long enough to read it, but they look like they are from the same breeder. can a grey green and a white based grey both come from the same clutch, as they both appear to be from same person and the numbers are close (058 and 060). It is a dark red band, so I am guessing both are 09 birds.
  17. Skye, our cinnamon blue budgie spotted our green olive in another cage and keeps pacing back and forth along the cage. I just got back from attending our quarantine area and she is still running back and forth along the cage and flying back and forth along the cage. I was placing Skye into the cage and I honestly can say females bite a heck of alot harder. Ollie I was placing him into our temp cage when we clean other cages and he just walked right into the cage with no worries. okay names so far: Kramer,Hedwig,Jessie,Ollie,Jimmy,Stormie,Stan,Skye,Harley,Mitchi. Darla the recessive pied is the daughters one. We are on call for when the store receives in a male white budgies as we stated before. Jessie, the one who is on the bad hair day picture, is still in the process of molting, I just vacuumed near the cages and she had a boat load of feathers under hers. Ahhh, nice and quite now, they all must have settled down for the night. We just got a big cage today from a chap who was getting rid of his, and we have it cleaned and ready for when the birds start clearing quarantine.
  18. Megan, our daughter wanted to see what Budgies they had at the petshop. So off we went to "window shop" again, lol. Well to make a long story short, we wound up with three more Budgies a pair to add with her other two and we picked up a skyblue cinnamon hen, which we named Skye. hmmmm grand total of birds is four zebra finches and 11 Budgies. We are looking for an all white male to put with Skye. They had two white ones down there, but they were both hens. So the store took our phone number and will call us when a white male Budgie comes in. We give the staff there lots of practice catching the Budgies lol. See I told you we would not say this is it for awhile. Will post pics of Stormie,Ollie, and Skye as soon as we get around. the daughters Bugies are a regular grey hen and a grey green male. Will have to post a picture of a blue male of hers named Jimmy. man it sure is getting crowded in quarantine, we own just about every cage that Big W advertises for quarantines, we have good sized cages prepared for when all come clear out of quarantine.
  19. We placed the seed bins in the cage and sat back and waited for them to start eating. Stormie immediately went over to the seed holder and next thing we knew, seeds went flying everywhere. We realized that our other hen Jessie does the same thing. Then she promptly jumped down to the cage floor and started pecking at all the seeds she had kicked out of the thing, after a bit she did the same thing again. However when she tried to do it a third time, Stan the male pecked her in the head, so she went off to another perch and glared at him. Now if we can just get her to stop trying to lay down in the seed holder, luckily we have two in the cage. Ollie is almost clear quarantine and we are going to pair him up with Jessie our hen. The screeching of Hedwig our other hen which is paired up with Kramer our violet is quite alot. Esp when Kramer keeps going over to the cage to see Jessie, she swoops down and screeches at him and pecks him in the head. He then gives us, the what did I do to deserve that look, lol. Kramer and Hedwig seem to be fully bonded as they are exhibiting the bonded pair behaviours. It is quite lively and noisy both in the quarantine area and the area where our first three budgies are located. They definitely all seem to have a different personalities lol.
  20. Thanks Kaz, Going by your info, he is a green grey. He is huge rofl, compared to the hen. They are preening and feeding each other already. We are not going to say this it for awhile, because everytime we say that, . We will post pics as soon as we get back from doing errands. At the moment happy chirps are coming from all the cages along with the hens screeching as soon as they hear one screech, they all screech. The wife informed me due to his clumsiness, the Male is Stan, we named the hen, Stormy, hmmmmm we now have Stan & Ollie , and both are shades of green lol
  21. We were in yesterday looking at the Budgie we are getting. There is an olive green male who keeps hanging near her and he seems to go where ever she goes. We are thinking of getting him as well right along with her. We asked them to hold her till today and they placed her into the cage next to where he was and they hung on either side of the cage next to each other. soooooo, make that Budgie number 7 & 8,lol. Can we put both of them in a cage together during quarantine or do they need to be in different ones, they are coming from the same shop.
  22. We are going to add a 7th budgie to the flock tomorrow and possibly an eighth, if we see a male one we like. This Budgie is mostly grey with a sort of yellow face and dull yellow markings elsewhere. Will put up pics. We were talking to the woman at the shop, when she flew over to us and sat there and cocked her head at us. They placed her in another cage,so she would not be sold.
  23. If it was from Seinfeld, then yeah. The Bird has some pratfalls that reminds me of Kramer. He's always eating, gets along with all the other budgies. still trying to find a Jerry,Elaine, and George lol.
  24. Our one budgie Ollie is singing away in another cage. Our other male Kramer tilts his head towards the direction of Ollie, as he can hear him from the other room. Kramer listens to what is being sung, and then does it back. It seems like if Kramer gets it, Ollie then will sing differently, if Kramer stuffs it up, Ollie then proceeds to sing the same thing again, and as soon as Kramer sings it back perfectly, Ollie sings something else. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but it seems like Ollie is teaching Kramer lol.
