My Plans For My Aviary
We did originally have it all the way forwards, leaving a fantastic amount of space at the side and behind it. Sorry, should have mentioned that. Unfortunately because the concrete isn't level like we first thought, the front right corner lifts up quite a bit My husband said when I DO get to extending the aviary, that he will get the pad redone so it is level and smooth. (I think he must be warming to the idea!! YESSSS!) We spent hours yesterday moving it around to all different positions, was such a mission but a most rewarding one as I had the satisfaction of building it myself, whilst my husband held the panels together.

My Plans For My Aviary
Oh gosh thank you Dave That means alot. I am very enthusiastic about it, my husband thinks I'm too enthusiastic - "they're only birds" I said they aren't only birds and I could never have enough enthusiasm!! haha, but he is getting used to the idea of my outbursts of "ooh gosh look at this aviary" and "what a great feeder" I think I spend more time dreaming about what I'd like to do, and playing with my birds than I do gardening, oops. That is a fantastic quote Here are the rest of the pictures of its setup at home. Please excuse the huge amount of photos! Oh and the staining on the concrete is from the bottlebrush leaves. I plan on using the whole of the concrete for my dream aviary, and extending over it onto the grass which I shall pave Little miss in pink was our site manager, she tried to help, really she did HAHAHA I have attached shade cloth on instead of the clear plastic/Laserlite roofing I was planning on as we thought it may get too hot. If it doesn't get too hot in there, I may end up putting some clear plastic over the shade cloth BUT make it a bit elevated so airflow can still go through it. The shade cloth down the side and front will be able to be lifted up and down when necessary. Behind the aviary is where I am planning on placing my rainwater tank. As the roof is slightly elevated so the rain falls down the back, I will be placing some guttering on it and connecting it to the tank - free fresh water!! I'm abit disappointed the concrete pad isn't as flat as I thought it first was, but that's okay, we'll manage And here are the additions to make my budgies nice and happy!! Well once they grow bigger of course! Unfortunately I couldn't find any Peppermint trees, though that's okay as I have some seeds - hopefully I can grow them too!

My Plans For My Aviary
okay so I'm still working on the plans for my dream aviary, which will take some time I think.SO, because we all love pictures here, I have "some" (more like hundreds!! ) of the aviary I purchased from Clouds birds.Dismantling - endless drilling of millions of pop rivets, the help of Clouds birds and 6 hours (I think) later: YAY Phew that was some hard work. Now it looks like...

I put some peppermint branches with leaves in my cages yesterday and Santa went nuts with it!! None of the others were too interested UNTIL I started misting them with the hose!! Then the started "bathing" in the leaves and gosh the peppermint smell was glorious!!

Not Sure Of The Sex On These Two
:sadsorry: Ahhh gosh that must be hard for you not being able to take lots more! Being a budgie lover makes me take oodles of pics. I'd hate to not be able to photos. Maybe one of the more experienced members on here will be able to guess better than me :rip:

Not Sure Of The Sex On These Two
It looks as though you've used the flash to take your photos. Its much better to take photos without the flash as you get a clearer picture. Just judging on what you're saying makes me think Darla may be male and Jesse is female, but clearer pics would give us a better indication :rip: Are you able to post some more pictures up? :sadsorry:

Plastic Nest Boxes
I saw a few different sized ones of these today when I was at The Bird and Fish Place in Wattle Grove - the nest boxes suited to budgies are tiny!! This one is a much better size for them. I was actually going to get some Ivermectin to refill my supply from Tim Oldfield and thought I'd detour to the Bird and Fish place to see if there was anything new.

Clarification Please?

It's Snowing Today
Love the photos! I miss snow, but we sorta don't get snow here in Perth, West Australia - unless its down in the Sitrling Ranges, and even then there's no guarantee for snow. :emoticon112:

A New (unwanted) Addition ...
Sorry to hear the maggie didn't make it Renee. I'm positive it wouldn't have been any fault of yours especially if it was extremely dehydrated. And you're right - who knows how long it had been out of the nest OR another point being how long had the man had the chick before trying to give it to you. Least you tried Good to hear your vet will take wild birds off your hands! That will definitely make your life easier.

Show Budgerigars
I've been reading John Scoble's "The Complete Book of Budgerigars" (trying to educate myself more) and I've just actually gotten up to Varieties and Colours and it mentions Harlequin Danish Recessive or Harlequin Pieds - Pied area and body colour is a clear bright shade and on the hen, markings are darker. Blurred markings will often be evident and more pronounced on the wing. Pupil is black, cheeck patches are white, legs and feet are flesh pink, Cere on the cock is flesh coloured and on the hen light to nut brown. That's what he has written, sorry if I'm not able to write that without his permission.. ? Please remove if I'm not meant to write this I know most of you know about colours and names and mutations, but its informative to me and as I just came across it tonight, it seemed appropriate to discuss on here. GB - He also mentions that colour Laurel too - though I'm not quite sure what depth of green that is

A New (unwanted) Addition ...
Renee, I used to work for Kanyana Animal Rehabilitation Centre in Gooseberry Hill. My mother is the managing supervisory head something or rather (some flash thing). If you'd like to keep looking after the maggie, I can get some products to help you with that, or I can take it there for you? :)They make a meatball mix which has mince meat, calcium, insectivore, and some other yummy goodies in it. Sorry I can't remember off the top of my head. I am seeing mum tomorrow morning so I can get the mix information from her for you :hi: They also eat meal worms too. Oh yes and the meal worms are chopped up too - they don't start off with a full sized worm

I think a flash has been used too and I've learnt that having a flash on doesn't help. Could we perhaps see another picture of Piki taken without a flash?

Show Budgerigars
THAT would be one massive gangly legged long necked budgie!! Hahahaha I wonder how you'd get them to perform the mating ritual Least if it were purely based on size, you'd have a winner! Back on topic though, I have wondered what the requirements for showing is too, though i'm no where near that stage yet.
