  1. Not the authorities...the news That's what I meant whoops hahaha
  2. Oh Gosh! That is terrible the authorities got the locations wrong!! And at the end of your road too, that's really bad. I know you said they sent you an sms to "watch out for flying embers and sparks" but they failed to tell you to go look down the road I'm VERY glad you, Ken, your birds and other animals are all okay. That is what's most important.
  3. I was reading this thread last night! I was searching for something else and this saw this one. They are really cute. And its a fascinating and informative read Liv.
  4. I saw this on the news - its the one in Caversham isn't it? Looks nasty. I hope your birds and aviaries will be okay Kaz. If there is risk of the fire heading your way, please let me know - I will come and help you with anything you may need help with. I hope Birds n All will be okay.
  5. ooh ooh how exciting and what a surprise for you that must have been! I don't know enough about chicks, feeding and rubber necks to comment but just wanted to congratulate you. I hope it all goes well for you
  6. Oh does he think its some sort of booby trap? haha That's funny. You're right, i'm sure curiosity will win. Good luck with it!

Thanks Thank you for your input, what you have said makes sense AND its very constructive for me to use. Is this sort of what you mean in regards to the storage and safety door? I just modified my plan again. I forgot that light doesn't go through colorbond so that safety door and storage would be a bit useless hahaha oops I do plan on using the new aviary in my plans as I am aware it can be separated down the middle and one section moved to form the "L". Then I can add extra panels and make it all bigger to what I require....eventually. I sorta need more funds to modify and extend which is why I'm using the new one for now I'm not the greatest when it comes to converting measurements is there a program that would help me draw the aviary to scale? Thanks so much!
  8. That's a good one! Or Sheila?
  9. I shall try and get him in some brighter light ( without blinding him of course ) and will see if i can get a decent photo of his eyes
  10. I DO know that his mother was a dark green normal and his father was a blue/yellow/green recessive pied. Now that i'm learning mutations I can say that, where as before I'd have said patchy blue/yellow/green/ So that would make him split for recessive pied wouldn't it? His wings are definitely black, I can't see any hint of brown in them at all

You like the design? Thanks I'm quite proud of it myself. Whoops I forgot the pics of the aviary from you haha I'm very much looking forward to it Thanks so so much for it! Can't wait to set it all up.

These are the plans for my aviary. Top view and 3d frontal view - took me forever to design them to what I THINK will work. I already have a concrete pad in the back corner of our yard in a pie shape (or quarter of a circle ) which is 5.1m along one fenceline, 5.1m along the other fenceline and I can build outwards at the shortest point to 2.4m - the longest point width wise would be at the 90 degree angle of the "L"shape - which I might change the safety door to so it is external rather than internal...see childish diagram below ahaha What do you all think? Of course this is more of a long term project that I plan on achieving one day BUT in the meantime...... This is my new aviary I'm picking next weekend It would have taken a few months to build the above aviary and as my flock is kind of somehow growing (its those big pockets that hide birds!! ) I need something now. Its a brilliant starting point for me. Later on I can do my aviary but until then I can dream...oh and play and view my budgies
  13. Thanks so much I shall write that info down so I can keep a record of what I could possibly breed out of her when I'm ready. I love his face too. I am soo happy with both of them Thank you for your kind words. I am very thrilled with these birds. And all the rest of your birds too are just lovely - I reckon I could have put at least four in my pockets I had enough room in them....maybe next time
  14. I have tried to search for information about this as I know black eyes are a form of mutation with some budgies and their colour OR they are the colour of eyes of the very young. However my Bugalugs is neither young (he will be 3 in March) nor is he a mutation, just a plain simple Normal Green BUT he doesn't have any ring around his eyes at all, they are completely black. I was discussing this with Clouds birds today and she said it may be a mutation of some sort? Is he maybe a Dark Eyed Clear? I'm a bit confused That's the best I could get right now sorry
  15. Meet Santa , my handsome light green opaline spangle from the lovely Kaz. He is named Santa for his beard and I received him around christmas. I had the choice between Aussie and Santa - I couldn't decide between the two names so I pulled the name out of a hat. Karen thought of the name (Thanks for that ) Each time I tried to take a photo he seemed to know and slightly moved behind the bars of the cage grrr oh well. Just means I can spend more time with him trying to get the perfect shot Santa I also received a hen (Mrs Claws named so because she came with Santa and birds have claws hahah who is lovely that Karen so kindly gifted me . She is quite a bit larger than Santa, though Santa is still growing. Mrs Claws Santa is SUCH a cheeky boy! Before we had even left Karen's house, whilst we were still in the front yard he was chatting up Mrs Claws AND he continued to do so all the way home! She is not overly impressed with his advances and has tried to put him into place, though he hasn't quite gotten the idea she isn't the one for him. She only has a few more weeks to put up with him as they are in quarantine, though if I see her becoming stressed or upset I shall separate them straight away. It's a shame I didn't have the camera on me this morning! I caught Santa playing in his water bowl with a gumleaf and he had a guilty look on his face when I saw him as if to say "oh Dang i've been sprung" haha What a character. Sorry for the long post
  16. Congratulations!! That is a gorgeous picture! I love budgies, they always do such funny things and make me smile!
  17. I found this very interesting and I think it will be rather useful to me to help me determine colours and mutations better too. Thanks Finnie
  18. Omelette is a very gorgeous budgie! I was able to see her yesterday when I saw Kaz. I felt very privileged to meet the famous mother hen! I also saw some of her beautiful offspring in the aviary and they are stunning!
  19. These two are even better in real life!! I went to see Kaz yesterday and gosh I feel so lucky I was able to view them You're a lucky man Dave - Quiche is a little beauty!
  20. Gosh Kaz what an amazing hen she is! Her babies are glorious. You have done magnificently with her! You must be so so very proud! Such a fantastic read! Took me awhile as I was reading all the added forum threads you put in about her. I hope she does well in the new flights, she is just amazing.

Thanks for the info Renee That's a big help to me. I have washed sand readily available as my daughter has a kiddie sandpit and it regularly has to be refilled due to her "sand explorations" hahaha I am still trying to plan my bigger aviary and all help and info is greatly appreciated. I do plan on keeping the sand under cover from the outside elements. If it ends up not working out, I'll just sweep it out and stick to the concrete. Anyone need eucalyptus leaf removal? Contact Renee for the fastest removal this side of Australia! just joking haha Gosh they have stripped the branches quickly haven't they?!! I do really like your foundation birds - they are rather appealing to me. You have some really lovely birds I LOVE the bird on the left (can't tell if it's a cock or hen from here sorry) I'm really loving the white wings with the cobalt (cobalt? )

Lovely looking birds  Love your aviary too - are you using sand for the floor? I was going to use sand on top of my concrete pad, but wasn't sure it was appropriate - if you're using it, then it must be okay
  25. Gosh he/she is absolutely stunning! I know I say that everytime I see a new picture, but really its such a beautiful bird. You must be ever so proud KAZ
