  2. Hey Clearwing, Got any in this Sunday? Hope you haven't left all the Kyabram spots to Heathrow and Splat! Any plans to pick up the judging stick again? Cheers PT
  3. Hi Everybody, For those concerned that they will be priced out of the market, below are the results of last years auction: 268 birds sold <=$50 - 42 birds - 16% $51 - $100 - 49 birds - 18% $101 - $150 - 26 birds - 10% $151 - $200 - 30 birds - 11% $201 - $300 - 40 birds - 15% $301 - $500 - 44 birds - 16% $501 - $1000 - 22 birds - 8% $1001 - $2000 - 13 birds - 5% >$2000 - 2 birds - 1% Hope this makes sense. For the record, one third of the offering sold for $100 or less. I think the auction has something for everybody! Cheers PT
  4. Hi Everybody, Please find below the link to the 2010 Melton Blue Ribbon Auction catalogue. http://www.bcv.asn.au/MeltAuctCat10.pdf Cheers PT
  5. GB, Sheep ivomec works fine on budgies. I use it and have no problems as do most of the breeders in our club. The ivomec sold at the trade table at Preston is sheep ivomec. Cheers PT
  6. Thanks for the plug Clearwing. This years auction is shaping up pretty well at this stage. Catalogues will be out early May. Cheers PT
  7. In my experience, I have never had a hen leave a healthy nest of chicks or fertile eggs at night. I use lights at night so I can check birds after I get home but I do not use a night light. At times I have come out in the morning (I am usually in the birdroom at 6.30am) and have found the birds in the flight hanging off the wire as they were obviuosly disturbed during the night. The same disturbances have not forced hens off the nest. Hens choose a safe place to nest. If they are disturbed, why would they think that it is safer outside the nest? I have enough trouble getting them out of the nest box at times - I don't think a bump in the night or a dog barking makes a difference. For what it is worth, I would not use a night light. Cheers PT
  8. Anyone hear how it went, and Wynnum Redlands as well? and yes, welcome Troy - looking forward to your input. Cheers PT
  9. I agree with Kaz. Scaly is easily treated but I am happy if you want to pm me to discuss euthanasia options. Thanks PT
  10. I am not bagging "Dr" Harry, but Vets are technically not doctors. They are part of the group of people that call themselves doctors without having a doctorate (like chiropractors). Vets generally do a 5 years Bachelors degree in Vet Science. Sure, you have to be smart as the entry scores are high and I rely on mine in times of need - but Dr...??? Cheers PT
  11. Hi Matt, The winner looks like a quality budgie but down a bit in variety. Cheers PT
  12. Try - "Ooh it's from a breeder, it must be a great bird! Do not get caught up in the hype. Breeders sell just as much **** as dealers." The reality is - breeders sell their **** to dealers. PT Does the **** go directly to dealers or is an attempt made to sell it to Joe Public first? The obvious ones go straight to the dealer. After people have viewed and picked through my remaining culls, what is left goes to the dealer. As culls - I have already determined that they are not suitable for my purposes. If others can pick through them and find something they need, then good luck to them. My culls sell for $20 - 25. Auction quality birds are sold from home occaisionally for $50 - $100, which is under auction price (this year 22 of my birds sold at auction have averaged just over $150 with a top of $300). If a bird has an obvious problem (won't lay, old infertile cocks, etc) they find their way into the bin. I don't "attempt to sell" anything. I would sooner send them to either an auction or the dealer - it's a lot less hassle, however I do try and assist people by selling birds from home, just as people did for me when I first started. Thanks PT
  13. Try - "Ooh it's from a breeder, it must be a great bird! Do not get caught up in the hype. Breeders sell just as much **** as dealers." The reality is - breeders sell their **** to dealers. PT
  14. Budgies as big as chooks.
  15. Have a go then...
  16. I disagree with this statement... Culls that go to dealers are the same culls that breeders try to sell off at inflated prices. Culls are culls. Do you honestly think breeders send their bad culls to the dealer and try to sell their good culls privately. I think too many people are hypnotized by the fact that dealers are selling birds to them directly. Ooh it's from a breeder, it must be a great bird! Do not get caught up in the hype. Breeders sell just as much **** as dealers. Just as a bird in a dealer may have a problem, a breeders birds could equally have a problem, hence the sell off. Keep your eyes, ears and mind open. That's my advice. The best club rung hen I had last year was a pet shop cull for $15. Like a breeder is going to sell you top quality birds at a reasonable price? Yeah right! Not in my case. I keep my best birds to breed and show. The next tier are sold at club auctions, sold privately, swapped or given to friends. The rest go to the pet shop. I think your generalised view of breeders is rather jaundiced and cynical. PT
  17. Yes the opaline violet hen was mine and the "sneakers" are puma! Heathrow looks a bit like a human version of a crest - thinnish with a bit of a "fluffy" hairdo. I was the larger bloke with a callaway golf cap (God, I'm sounding like a brand name wanker! - callaway hat & puma shoes). Next thing you know all of my birds will be Mannes x Binks x Pilkington! Cheers PT
  18. It looked to me like money was no problem lealotta! Cheers PT By The Way. You home yet Heathrow???
  19. wait what 1ml to a litre?? thats pretty concentrated ...and it stains like all *?!%.
  20. My birds get their water via bottles with "nipples" which means they don't get it everywhere. Cheers, PT
  21. I seriously doubt they will change colour. Anyway I wouldnt use it everyday. AND the idea is to use quality fruit juice cordial not the cheap brand with additional food colour. Maybe that explains my "ruddy" complexion (that's got nothing to do with Kevin Rudd by the way). Oh, but hang on, I don't drink raspberry cordial - my birds do. And the only time they look pink is when the get it on them and the type that I use regularly really stains! The one I use is from Trend soft drinks in SA and is concentrated - 1ml to the litre! cheers PT
  22. Macka was bidder number 6 if that helps? PT
  23. Hi All, Top price was $700 for an Ian Hunter Cinnamon Grey Green Cock. Plenty of birds in the last 50 making over 200. Good birds from Ian Hunter, Julie Kruisselbrink, Alan Rowe and Mario Capasso. Very happy with my average price and picked up a super cinnamon grey hen from Julie K for $500. Geelong is still the best auction in Victoria for "realistic" prices. Auctioneer is "stuffed"! Cheers PT
  24. Sorry Matt, Can't guarantee Ms Fox or Ms Moss, but the auctioneer will do his best despite his gender, etc. The birds should be good though! Cheers, PT
  25. ol moon face might put the birds to sleep. Maybe you get a bird to auction the birds , like Megan Fox or cameron Diaz Hi Matt, Agree - caught "ol Moonface" at the end of 20 to 1 (you know - when 9 lets things run over the advertised time!) - not good!! We shouldn't let this deteriorate into a sexist diatribe, but I would be all for Ms Fox. What about Tara Moss - she would almost make you bid! :hmm:
