I've completed the move, it went great for the bird's they hardly stressed at all and fit right in to the new environment. a few downsides from the move was the cockatiel nest was abandoned and the chicks were half dead in the box taking a breath every 5-10 seconds. so i rushed them inside and turned the heat mat on with the box, had to blow into my hand for a good 20 minute's with the bird's in my hand and miraculously they survived. and another downside was one of my hen's went into the budgie's nestbox and litterally hammered one of the chicks in their, he had his eye picked at and was scabbed and swolen on top of his head, he also has this swolen red thing underneath his lower beak. it's gone down a bit now though... he wasnt able to swallow very well from the swelling so i had to force feed him with the syringe, and now he's doing fine, he's in the box with the 2 tiel's with the heat mat underneath the box, so i'm sure all 3 will come good nicely. as for the other nest's, most of the baby's in nest 2 green spangle's, and 1 is Opaline. I'll get some picture's later and update you's on it..... but apart from all the drama with the tiel's and such it was a very smooth move for the bird's.

Oh and Dave, here's another picture of the bird you wanted more pictures of..
  5. Do you have a heat mat? ...if so then set up a cardboard box, and cover the bottom with oats or something like that and keep the heat mat under it for a little while, be sure to keep a close eye on him during the time the heat mat is on, i would suggest keeping it on for 15 - 20 mins then taking it off, should be enough to warm up the oats and keep him warm for the time being .... but i think your gonna have to dedicate the night to him...make sure he's nice and full when you go to bed, and then check up on him through the night regularly to make sure its not too cold etc... all the best and good luck!

Well tonight is the last night ill be on here for the next month or so as we are moving house's. i have arranged a car trailer to transport the aviary's and have good size carrying cages for my tiel's and budgie's, The baby's should be fine without their parents for an hour or 2, as they are about 2-3 weeks old. so ill leave them in the breeding box's in the back seat, their's only 2 nests so it shouldnt be a problem... i wont have internet until we settle into the new house properly and sort everything out. i have vowed that as soon as we arrive at the new house im focusing all my attention on getting the aviary's placed in a good backyard position where they get sun all day and a shady spot all day as 2 options. and then ill get all the bird's in their and settled as soon as possible, so they do not freak out or stress more then they may already have. so ill try and get back here as soon as possible and let you's all in on the news on how the move went. so everyone take it easy and good luck with the breeding results, wish you all the best. P.S keep this topic open kaz, cause ill update on it once i get back online after the move. CYA'S

  8. Go see if the servo has yoghurt (depends if its a grocery servo also) if not then your gonna have to go to coles or woolworth's to get some yoghurt, as supermarkets wont sell handrearing mixture, they MIGHT sell lorikeet wet mix though, but im not good with knowing what to feed the chicks, i was always told to tap a drop of yoghurt in their mouth and let them eat it

Mine eat seed's and a variety of other stuff, instead of ditching seed completely, add a bit of both pellets and seed.

Nice Kaz, omelette never stops does she haha, how many clutches are a safe number for a hen to raise each year?.
  13. Produce store's their called. im not real good with that kind of stuff but im assuming by spraying every week it means if the bird is infected with mite's already.

Well i remember a bloke who lived up the road from me a few years back, he had eclectus and sun conure's in his aviary's, and one of the stray cat's kept getting on top of the aviary and startling them.but if you want a solution, you can ask the council for some cat traps and catch them, then the council comes back the next day, collects the cats and traps and then tests them to see if their registered microchipped etc and usually they find the owner and fine them for leaving their cat stray on the street.
  16. keep an close eye on the baby, and check its crop regularly, if the mother and father have decided to not feed it, then you need to go to a local pet store and buy some handrearing mixture and a spoon or syringe, and you will then have to feed it for about 2 weeks until it starts to touch the seed
  17. good question, i wonder the same thing myself
  18. Here's my 4 week old baby, she's albino
  19. how horrible, to deliberately run over a wild animal. i hope he makes a full recovery.

shavings have problems in different ways, it effects ground dweller's the most 2 months back, i had a problem with my quails, they all died of respiratory problem's and such, then i found out that shavings contain this fungal bacteria infection that makes bird's very ill, eventually it was too late before i could save the quail. turned out the shaving fumes effected the breathing problems and killed the quail.
  25. oh dear what a disaster, i hope the inconciderate jerk who sold you the infected bird feel's ashamed of himself, people like that are just disgusting human beings in my opinion.
