Unless like kaz said, you have foster egg's, then yes but in general breeding their's absolute 0 point in marking them

  4. White indicates hen... this is a real toughie.... it might be a hen coming into mature (non-breeding condition) you SURE it's 3 yr old? And yes it's too late for photo's now so leave it till tomorrow
  5. Hehe, I still agree with male... i cannot see a hen being turned out from that type of cere that he had in Jan, but as you said about the white... it could still be a hen, we will know for sure once photo's are up, good luck pestering your sister

Indeed this is a late and rather "out of date" post, but yes sick bird's will stay on both leg's as they do not have the energy etc to balance on the 1 leg.... How did she go? recovered okay?
  7. dark red? never seen that before.... picture's would be great when you have them
  8. Lovely bird's Kaz. is that grey in the 2nd last picture opaline? (500TH post  )
  9. He looks definite male in the picture...

I never mark my egg's, i have no need to, If the egg doesnt hatch, It doesnt hatch simple as that. i wouldnt risk putting anything on the surface of the egg as you never know 100% that it's safe for the embryo. if you candle them you should be able to tell which one is layed first cause it will show less see through and be more darker inside the egg.
  11. okay fine i'll take him out tomorrow and have him inside with his mate in a large cage with a stand on the verandah with the galah and lorikeet, and just have my 3 pair's in their.... I didnt want them confined to a cabinet for most of their life.... and i had way too many budgie's in my last aviary... my reason being said that he wont breed is because he's been with his mate for over a year now, and was in the aviary for at least 8 months... they mated multiple times but the hen never took notice of the box..
  12. i could put 2 on each wall and maybe 3 in the middle... so their's 3 spare box's... but i don't want the box's to be cramped. P.S one pair wont breed, and that's the grey-green and lutino hen.... only reason i kept them 2 was because the grey-green is a tame budgie, and i bought him the same day as my rainbow lorikeet, (he kept chasing him around the enclosure so i bought him) and i wasn't going to take the lutino from him cause he basically loves her to death so really it's only the 3 pair's, that will breed.
  13. Here's a picture of the 8 budgie's i have left after the culling .... The box's are their for now until i get a decent drill and bit's and piece's to attatch them higher and all around... so ill have 1 box on each side of the aviary and then 2 in the middle...
  14. Or, you can have 2 cage's set up with a pair in each.... otherwise have 2 pair in the large cage you got.
  15. Interesting... cockatiel's do the same... my hen (was a inside tame bird without a male) layed one every so often... turn's out she needed a mate due to plucking her feather's in frustration.... your hen might be eager for a mate i suppose.
  16. Agreed, You can see it, the lack of barring on the back of the head and such...

  19. Thanks for that Kaz, might do that myself... ill start putting millet in the box's including my cockatiel's.
  20. THIS is a cockatiel.... see any resemblance between the cocky and the tiel? I think not!
