  1. Nice birds, are you breeding green to green blue to blue etc.? Good luck with them either way. I hate it when you lose a good breeding bird.
  2. St George is a suburb of Sydney. (home of the mighty Dragons) l.o.l
  3. You sound like you are having a great time with your birds Vargur. First chicks are exciting, waiting to see what you get even better ! Good luck with them, all fingers crossed everything goes smoothly for you.

Hi and Welcome , ditto to all the above.
  5. Maybe Skye is being overprotective of the nest box? In this picture she looks like she is past breeding cond. Can you block the entrance to nest box so she can't go in? See if this helps with the aggression, if so leave it until they both look like they are in breeding condition and try again.
  6. Hi,thanks Nadene, just checked after shopping and the 3 chicks crops look pretty full, maybe now she's not sitting on eggs as well they might cope better with just the 3. Here's hoping anyway
  7. Thanks Nadene and Birdlove, they are feathering up nicely. Nadene, Mum 4 is a problem the chicks aren't fed fully, I ended up taking the rest of her eggs, (5) put them under a hen who had 8 chicks, she's been laying eggs that are getting kicked all around the nest box,( took last of her chicks out into kindy now) don't think there is much hope of them hatching out so, last eggs of problem Mum's may hatch under her, they are due roughly same time as foster nest eggs.. Leaving problem Mum with 3 to rear. If this makes sense. l.o.l

Sorry you lost Henry, Ghost is lovely, I have "Snowy" Albino and I have "Casper" D.F spangle with a bit of suffusion. Looks like I have 2 more in nest box the same.

Know the feeling Nadene, are you keeping your show bred offspring? I have 13 in kindy at the moment, had them out for flying lesson today, they were all fagged out when I put them back in and all nestled in for a snooze l.o.l. I have to decide which ones of these to keep as well. Ten more still is box's plus some eggs due next week.
  10. Hi, sounds like your 3rd bird is the problem, maybe take him? out and leave plucked 2 in together for company. Could be just "baby" play? he probably found it amusing so continued on. Hopefully he hasn't damaged any follicles and they will grow back. Whether this will stop as he grows up would be trial and error. Haven't found this myself so can't advise .
  11. Hi. Where have you been G.B.? missed you little posts. and experience. How come only pet type on avatar did you give show birds away. Sorry Jaffa, got side tracked, can't go wrong with G.B.'s advice. If your nest box was normal size it would not be that, I have 1 nest with 8 babies +parents they all fit.
  12. I'd say hen but don't quote me. I have "Pink to white bulbous cere with larger looking nostrils" in notes as to how to guess sex. Males "Pinker smooth cere small nostrils". Hope this helps until someone else more informed can post.
  13. Can you put them is separate cages for a while? Do you have a nest box in cage? If your hen is being that aggressive I'd take him out to let his wing recover, maybe in a cage next to Skye so they can still be together but she can't get at him. Does he have any open or bleeding bites or just hurt from her pulling feathers?
  14. No4 arrived but was dead overnight not fed, back to square 1? no 5 due to-day.
  15. Sorry Jaffa, seems like a bad start but we all have those sort of problems. There are some things that can affect new chicks like yellow belly etc but you would have to read up on things. It's hard to know what caused the deaths without a vets advice. I think I'd take out remaining eggs if your sure they aren't fertile, maybe the hen will lay again or you could take nest box out for a while and try again when they are in breeding condition.
  16. Does no 2 chick seem to have been fed yet or did you try hand rearing mix?
  17. Update on update, no 4 chick died o.night, doesn't seem to have been fed AGAIN, other 3 were all full when I just checked. fingers crossed for next chick!!
  18. I have same problem she has 3 being fed, 4th she didn't feed it died yesterday, hoping she feeds next one. If I'd been a bit earlier I maybe could have tried to feed mine it was still warm when I found it but couldn't revive it. I think I'd try to feed yours it if you can, because they get weak and die quickly if not fed. After the first feed, if it has the energy to call for food she may start feeding it.
  19. Hi, sorry I only get a black screen with "this video is private" across the screen. Can others play video?
  20. Any more news on chicks Rochelle? pics would be good.

Hi Bretto, (missed a bit just catching up). As to paved floor that is what we have. We laid 1 layer black plastic over that then second layer of pavers, that's because we had enough for 2 layers but could be just as good with 1, e.g.sand or road base, plastic layer for weeds etc then pavers with sand swept in between. We have never had any trouble with ours. I scrape floor every weekend remove old seed husk etc about once a month I hose it when it's hot weather. Yuor aviary is looking really good. I bet the kids are pleased with the conversion. Good job.
  22. update on cage 4 she now has 4 chicks, 4 eggs. all looking good so far.
  23. Hi, You should be able to have a mixed aviary with no bother as long as you don't have nest box's it should be fine. Mine get along really well even when you introduce new birds or kindy chicks to aviary they just seem to accept newcomers. Mind you, sometimes you get the odd one that wants to be "the boss" but they usually settle down. Just be aware that the breeding bug is addictive!! Once you have your aviary set up the mind starts to say, wouldn't it be nice to have some chicks. You have been warned. l.o.l.
  24. Hi, If your colony breeding you will have hens fighting over nest box's etc, cage your pairs if you can. The time of hatching is the same as laying, they lay every 2 days and chicks hatch every 2 days. usually. If you have 2 chicks each new chick should arrive every 2 days if eggs are fertile. Be aware that even now you may have other hens attacking nest box's, they can kill chicks or throw out eggs if they decide they want that nest. It is lovely to watch them all in a happy aviary, as we all know though, things can change very quickly. l.o.l. Enjoy your chicks and post some pics when you can.
  25. Thanks Nadene no 3 has arrived, so far so good.
