Good luck with your breeding program. I have 1 Albino hen that I somehow bred. l.o.l. (not up with genetics AT ALL) she has 8 eggs, 1st o/due at the moment so hope I manage to get some chicks, she is paired with a pied violet, fingers crossed for something!! Pics would be great when you get the chance.
  2. You will need to get hand rearing food a.s.a.p. If you can't get that, try feeding it baby rice cereal mixed with a little boiled water from a spoon/ toothpick whatever. Even plain yoghurt to get something into it or it will die. At 3 weeks it should be starting to feather up but if it's been half starved it will be set back a lot. The video from Rich is a great little learning tool to show how it's done. If you can get some food into your chick, let us know how you go.

Glad to hear your chick is feathering again Nadene, has Mum attacked any others? Great news that your hens are laying. I have 1 o.due egg in Albino nest hope rest hatch.

Thanks Nadene, y.f.spangle is out of my (late) Aquarius, that had all the changing cere drama. This one is not quite as aqua as his Dad but he's very nice.

Adding some update pics of some. no 1 These 2 are only chicks from8 eggs !! Could be a hen & cock not sure. From smoky grey op & sky hen, looks like some green coming into it somehow.? This is a family shot of my pied nest. Same again note no 6 in corner mum laid again to-day. Just because ! Peanut. Now 4 yr old. Has not shown any interest in hens. He loves to come for a chat in aviary.
  7. Can't help with sex at this stage but if you look at tail feathers it usually gives a clue for colour.
  8. They look great Paulie, now the best bit, waiting to see what colour, mutations, etc you have. The rolled oats would add some insulation for them as well.
  9. Hi, It would depend on what the parents were split to. Sounds like your third chick is some sort of pied. Why not post some pics of them so others can advise? I presume by King budgie you maybe mean, show standard? I haven't heard of King budgies.

Sounds like you fixed the problem Phoebes. Hope your birds are doing well.

:( I candled the rest of my nest with 2 chicks, 6 eggs, ALL EGGS ARE CLEAR. so looks like 2 chicks from that nest, both successful breeders in the past.??? My 6 pieds are looking great 3 popped into cage to-day. Not game to candle Albino's eggs yet !! Hope your plucked chick is okay and it doesn't keep happening. Do you know if it's Mum? If so, has she done it before do you know?

Sounds like your having the same set backs I had last round Nadene. My second round went much better I have just on sold 11 babies to pet shop as I am going to be well over my 50 by the time the box's are empty . I've got 4 eggs so far from my one and only Albino, she's in with a violet pied, so awaiting the outcome of those. 6 pied's in nest 2 2 chicks 6 eggs, no 3 Just paired my gr. & Gold hen to Cock bird that looks like your hen no 3 pr. in box 4. Shame your pair 3 had clears maybe he was going out of cond? Be worth a second try. Maybe if she lays 2nd round you may be lucky.
  14. Is this one of your's Paulie?? If so could be double yolker/twins if fertile. Not a good success rate but possible. You can candle after 5-6 days to see if it's 1 or 2 yolks. Your chicks look great Paulie. It's exciting to watch them feather up to see what mutations you get.
  15. Hi Sherlock I also read that comment but here is a previous comment from ;SEXING BABY BUDGIES. ???? what differences are you looking for at that age KAZ? Even at that age JB you can see a whiter cere for female and a pinker one for the boys. Hen chicks also seem to have more bulbous cere and larger nostrils. Boys have smaller nostrils usually.
  16. Well I suppose he will adjust to things in time. Climbing wire etc to get where he's going. As long as food and water are in reach he should be fine.
  17. Re June; Re June.
  18. Possibly male, but very pretty little fellow, I tend to call my green/gold chicks Aussie. It will be interesting to see if he manages to fly with his little stump of a wing. Well done for not just getting rid of him, he should make a nice pet for your friend

I use sipper bottles similar to guinea pig e.g. bottles. My birds took to them straight away, We have 2 in main aviary Hubby made up a board with shelf, cut 2 holes to fit necks of bottles through and a dowel perch under each bottle for birds to drink. I use sipper bottles on all breeding cages and chicks learn to drink from them before they leave kindy cage. There is no contamination in water I also add their Iodine or vitamins etc also when whole aviary is treated.

Thanks all, I love my grey as well, another one still in nest box. Some lovely pieds to come as well from another box.
  22. Glad you found your little chick Paulie. Should be no problem if Mum has chicks of her own same age, except when you want to know which chick belongs to whom. l.o.l. Will you be able to tell as they feather up?
  23. robyn replied to Ross Laidler's post in a topic in Budgie Supplies
This looks like a good site Paulie. Thank you. I'll keep them in mind also. Sherlock these people are at Murwillumbah, so not that far from you. Prices look about what we paid.

Try one of the Pet Barns. We bought cages fronts in Taree and they had 2 different styles then. One where box was fitted into wire front the other you had box inside cage. May be worth a look if you have one in your area.
