Thanks Libby got lucky with birds, I wanted breeding age, seller said they were, but when I saw them thought they were only youngsters. They were pretty birds and at least I know they are young ones. Robyn Thanks Elly, made first step to increasing my family, can see difference in birds confidence in just a few days in aviary. Robyn

Thanks Naomi, it was just luck I rang a girl who sells surplus birds and she had 3 pair so I told her I'd take them all. These were the result.Regards Robyn many thanks, still working on shed, not looking likely at the moment.Good things come ......etc Robyn thanks Liv hoping to build on these when they mature a bit more.
  3. Hi, an update on the funny feathers. Hulk has been back in Aviary for a couple of days now and feathers have settled down to normal plumage. Just checked him and when he's chattering away or gets a bit excited you can still see them slightly, SO maybe it was stress after all Liv. Robyn

Welcome from another newbie. Robynjust a query for other's who replied, in the pics Minx's cere looks blue to me so how do you tell it's a hen? New to this just interested.Very pretty either way. When the blue you see has a lot of white with it then the bird is a young female or a female NOT in breeding condition. Check our cere topic here............... http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=19173 Even if that colour was on an adult...it would still mean female. Its the presence of white with the paler blue that makes it female Well, Lauren, checked out cere topic, very good info. I suppose we'll find our way around everything in time thanks for help. Robyn
  5. HI, didn't know you could work photobucket like that (new to it all) I like No 47( I think ) big green and yellow hen don't know the technical term yet. Are they all in aviary to-gether? Robyn

Also my hubby has nearly finished this 3 tiered breeding cage. We're playing it by ear and hope this will work, inside aviary, as I don't have a separate room YET his garden shed is just next door!! Robyn
  8. Thanks splat, at least I know it's not a unique problem. Checked him in aviary this morning, doesn't seem so pronounced as they were so time will tell I quess. Robyn
  9. Hi Dean, thanks for your reply, prior to his moult he looked fine only since new lot came in they changed. Still wondering if it could be genetic and if could be passed on. thanks Robyn
  10. Thanks Liv, you maybe right, because I had to quarantine him with 2 other birds(my original 3). We have 6 new birds and redid aviary to see if there was a problem with it, as I lost 3 within 2mths so put new birds into aviary first, all seems o.k. So to-day have returned original 3 as well. Fingers crossed.thanks again Robyn
  11. ] Hi All, hope I'm on right forum for this. "Hulk" here has finished moulting, I think, we are left with these ruffled feathers on his chest, one wing feather as well seems to be twisted. He is one of my pet shop birds. Does this look like a genetic problem? If so would he pass this to any offspring he has? He's a big bossy bird but I haven't a hen old enough to breed with him yet and wondered if this would be a problem. I checked for mites etc. but he's clear in that regard. with thanks Robyn
  12. robyn replied to Billy's post in a topic in Health Questions and Tips
Hi Billy,I was confused as well but got POUR ON IVOMEC for BIRDS from vet. advised 2 drops back of head, as its absorbed through skin. Bottle says 0.2ml per 100grams bodyweight. A 50 ml bottle cost $9.50 it will do a lot of birds.Didn't mention lice but said all worms, treat every 3 mths. Only thing it's difficult if birds are in big aviary to treat (have to catch them all) Hope this helps. Robyn
  13. Thanks very much Neville, have been doing a lot of reading but nothing works like experience. I'd have been searching for ages and would still get it wrong. I'll see how I go from here, thanks again for the help. Robyn

Hi all, my local pet shop owner has given my birds 2 drops of AVOMEC on back of their heads for worms including, air sac mites I think he said it covered. I have spoken to vet hospital at nearby town and they will sell me this for ongoing 3 mths treatment.Has anyone had experience with this and is it okay for use by a new chum. Robyn

Hi pearce, Do you know, how much, how often, and are these added to water etc.? Prevention is better than cure if these are not harmful even if they don't help. Thanks

Hi, beautiful pictures, do you use a digital camera? Great birds, does your climate allow for them to be in outdoor aviary's?

Hi all, have noticed at night my birds hang upside down from wire netting under roof iron(to stop escapees) instead of roosting on perches. Is this normal?

Hi Dave, I did have a violet hen, but lost her about 24hrs after noticing her fluffed up etc. don't know a vet here yet, took her to pet shop chap who's very good, gave her dose of ? on back of neck, said bring her back if no better next day but she died within hours. What do you do? Only hoping its not something passed to remaining birds. Reading up "stuff " maybe air-sac mite? She had a little squeak at pet shop. thanks for your tip but will wait and see how other birds are before buying newby's. Robyn Thank's Kazzy, love your aviary, did see your progressive pics when browsing before I joined, great job. Robyn Hi Richo, I'm being greedy and keeping both, hoping to add to one, not the other. Robyn
