Yes Colorado is beautiful but cold too.. ..and I'm a little confused about how Louie is doing right now.. actually I have no idea but he is going to the vet soon so hopefully he will be good. Thanks
  2. okay.. so egg is good.. and yes I cook the eggs before giving them the eggshells and I crush them very good then I just sprinkle it on their seeds.. is that good? I don't give them alot of bread, every now and then they get a little bit just as a treat but I guess I'll just give them millet as a treat now.. Thanks for the information KAZ and yes Louie is going to the vet hopefully very soon.

And a friend from Colorado :happy-dancing: Welcome to here, your birds are beautiful. Nice story
  4. Thank you Last night I took his food out and I gave him only seeds this morning. I've been watching him all day and his droppings seem to have changed already Now they are brown, which is normal right? they are still a little runny but I guess I still have to wait for a few days for they to become fully normal. I guess the first day I brought him his diarrhea was caused by the stress and then it only continued because he was eating food he wasn't used to? I won't give him anything but seeds for a while and then introduce veggies little by little and see how it goes And thanks for telling me about the egg.. I had no idea they only needed it when feeding young.. but oats are okay right? because all my birds love them..
  5. I got Louie exactly 11 days ago and since then I noticed his droppings were runny..well actually very watery and green, light green and sometimes dark green. I kept changing the newspaper everyday to see if there was any changes and they were.. Not as watery but still runny. His vent is always clean.. I've been cheking that too. He acts very normal though, playful, chirping..eating and drinking water normally.. He eats oats with crushed egg shells and bread plus his seed mix and millet. At first I tought it was because of the stress of being brought to new surroundings.. but it has been long since I brought him home.. I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow but I still want to see what you guys think.. what could it be?
  6. This is so true.. lol
  7. So funny! Hahaha!
  8. Looks like a boy to me His cere looks just like Louie's my baby boy.

Lol!! I picked squirrel! This really got me laughing.. thanks for the laugh
  10. My budgies love rice. I read that budgies could eat cooked rice so I decided to give it a try and they loved it. Now I give them rice every now and then and they just eat it up
  11. Thanks alot for this information! I hope everyone that is trying to breed and have no clue about the many problems that can come out read this! I used to breed budgies when I was younger and never had any problems, lucky for me.. and with the support of my parents it was easy and I gained a lot of experience from those times as well Now I'm preparing to start breeding again next year! I have the space, the cages needed, the money, the support, the super experienced breeders on this site and the breeding flock all I need is to wait a whole year so my flock is old enough.. My oldest hen is about 6 months and my youngest cock is about 2 months I think.. but since I'm not sure I figured I'll just wait a whole year.. Meanwhile I'm still learning all I can and at the same time giving my budgies the time they need to settle down and its just the perfect amount of time I need to get to know their personalities and see if they have what it takes to be good parents.

Thank you That plant is not a pothos.. I don't even know what it is called lol but I'm sure its not a pothos and thanks for pointing that out by the way.. because I don't even know if that plant being photos or not is toxic! so I will do some research on it. But the budgies can't reach it either way. ..and I see this is your first post?! ..Then Welcome to here ..and I think the name Finnie is really cute!

They have been trying to nibble the painted wood in the corners and even though the paint is safe I still don't want them to! So I think I will wrap it just to be safe. The cage is indoors I live in Colorado so is not safe to keep them outside..it gets way too cold and we get a lot of snow even in spring and sometimes in summer! crazy cold weather.. we just got 4 inches of snow yesterday.. but its all gone now thanks to the sun :sadsorry:

Thank you :rip: Here are some pictures.. I took them with my cellphone so they are a little blurry.. The dimensions of the cage are: 48"Long X 24"Wide X 36"High.. plus the legs are 12" The floor is made of a wooden sheet cut in half and it comes off for easy cleaning! I can just take one of the halfs off and get in the cage to clean it, move stuff around or get the budgies. My uncle named the cage "Red Bob" because its a little shaped like spongebob lol. My budgies are very happy. Sky, the oldest one is the only one that can fly so I would say she is the happiest, the other two.. Snowflake and Fiona still have their wings clipped and Louie is still in quarantine but all in all.. they seem very happy and make even more noise now! but its good, I like that noise :sadsorry:
  16. Mine is short for Corina which is my name. Everyone close to me calls me Cory :sadsorry:

Welcome to here :sadsorry: I'm kinda new to the site as well and I already love it! Its great and you learn a lot of things. The people in here are so experienced and you can trust them with giving you good advice. Your birds are beautiful. I love the name Jake for a bird and your budgies are very cute babies.

Thanks for the replies :fear I was really worried.. The wood is not pine and the paint is water based. I spent a whole night washing and scrubing the cage with vinegar inside and out, I really dislike the smell of vinegar but it was worth it. The painted wood is mostly out of reach.. unless they climb to get it .. I put some natural perches and lots of toys in there and I put the birds in there too.. they seem so occupied nibbling on the perches and playing that they don't even try to get to the painted wood. I will post some pictures later

Okay..so my uncle made me a cage, but he didn't bother to ask which materials were budgie safe.. Its a very nice cage, big and even pretty but he didn't use the right materials.. He used wood for the frame and he painted it.. and the wire mesh he used is galvanized zinc coated which I know is toxic to birds. He expects me to use that cage.. I haven't put my birds in there yet with the excuse that I have to wait for the paint to dry for at least 2 weeks. Is there any way I can make the cage safe? I read somewhere that if I scrub the mesh with vinegar it will take some of the zinc away.. is that true? and what about the painted wood? most of it is out of reach but they could still get to some and nibble it. I also thought about putting enough ladders, perches and toys in there so they climb around the cage less and give them lots of time out of the cage as well. will that help? The cage is indoors and my birds don't really nibble on things that much but still.. So is there anything I can do? My uncle spent his money and time on that cage and I really don't want to tell him I don't want it.
  20. Thanks
  21. I'm planning on making a new bigger cage for my budgies. I saw some great ones on ebay but unfortunately I can't afford it right now so I thought of making it myself.. its gonna be 60"Wx20"Dx36"H and its gonna look kinda like this: (in size) And I was also planning on making a divider just in case I need it. What kind of wood would be good to use for the frame? and what kind of wire or material would be good to cover the wooden frame that its safe enough for the budgies and the correct bar spacing? Also: How many budgies will I be able to fit in there? and how many on each side if it is divided? I thought maybe 4-6 on each side?

The ring color is actually Iris not purple.Cory - You are in the US and he color chart that KAZ has provided will NOT be the same for us over here in US as it is in Australia. I have one Normal Blue Hen that has a purple leg band on her leg reading TF 07 and she is an 2007 bird. In the second set of pictures you posted the band looks to be the same purple color as my hen's. I can't say for sure because I am in PA and we are not in the same state, but I do know that 08' leg bands in US, PA are mostly black and a few dark blue. Is there any other numbers or letters on the band??The colour chart KAZ posted is the usa one, it is different to ours.I realized that this was a US chart. My only point was that the colors on this chart don't seem to match even the US birds. I was stating that I have birds that have black bands in 08', blue bands in 08', blue bands in 07', purple bands in 07'... and as pointed out these may not be from the ABS... another point I'm making is that the US doesn't seem to follow the banding systems as faithfully as Australia.... I have yet to own one single bird that has fallen into this US banding color. So unless the band it's self has the 07,08,09 year on it the color alone doesn't seem to be of much help here in the US. I live in Colorado..if that helps a bit..three of my birds including Louie have the iris bands which looks to me more like purple and they are split legbands and i'm pretty sure they're not dark blue or any shade of blue either. Here are the colors and numbers for all 4 of my birds: Louie: Iris/Purple - 4301 Snowflake: Iris/Purple - 6146 Fiona: Iris/Purple - 6995 Sky: Silver - 9638 I have no idea what those numbers mean.. This is exactly how his color looks like.. the other pictures have bad lighting and the yellow looks washed out but this picture shows his true colors. ( Hope that helps with his description )

The ring color is actually Iris not purple.
  24. Oh..I'm so clueless about the rings lol Okay here are the ring colors and numbers for my birds: Snowflake: Purple - 6146 Fiona: Purple - 6995 Sky: Silver - 9638 So the color for Snowflake and Fiona is actually Iris. I just didn't know what it was called and decided to put purple since its kinda close to it. So what does the Iris color stand for and what about silver?

I decided its time to introduce my flock and myself formally so here it goes: I'm Corina and I love budgies. I used to breed them when I was younger but then I moved and never tried it again but since I miss all of those cuddly babies and the whole experience of breeding them and training them and just having them around I decided its time to start again, so I was doing some research and I found this site which is great I've learned things I didn't even have a clue about before I came to this site and I'm staying here to learn some more. So here is my flock: The Girls: This is Sky/Cielito (spanish for little sky) This is Fiona The Boys: This is Snowflake and this is Louie. The newest addition to our family and still in quarantine. And here is a picture of my dog Cookie too! ( I know she doesn't have anything to do with birds but I love her to death!) And this is Yukon So there you have most of my animal family.. Only missing my guinea pig and my cat but they don't have anything to do with birds either And lastly... How do you make those cool signatures with the budgie's pictures and names in it?!? Thanks for reading ~Corina~
