Is This Possible
A lot of americans call budgie keets...........common usage doesnt make it correct I'm not american but I live here and I always thought they were called parakeets ..since that the way they label them on petshops, websites etc.. but then I got so confused when on some websites they called them budgies and I thought that budgies were some other kind of parakeet.. and I never knew the true meaning of parakeet! Until I found this site Now I call my birds budgies all the time but I have to explain to people what a budgie is.. so I end up calling them parakeets again when I don't want to explain the whole thing It is so annoying! I didn't even know Budgies came from Australia either! But now I'm well informed thanks to this site

How Many Will Fit?
What would be the max of budgies in a cage this size: 48"L X 36"H X 24"W? and what about: 100cm L X 80cm H X 55cm W? Thanks

Weird Nest Box..
5-6 chicks.. yea its way too small and it would deffinitely be hard to clean.. oh well thanks for the great advice ..any ideas of what I could use it for that is related to birds? My brother made it especially for them.

Weird Nest Box..
Sorry I don't have a picture but the dimensions are: 6" X 6.5" X 4" ..too small? the holes are big.. I can fit my hand through them. One is 8cm in diameter and the other one is 6cm. It is rectangular in shape. and about it getting cold.. the breeding cage will be indoors, and I could put some kind of bedding in it?

Weird Nest Box..
My brother built me a nest box in his art class.. He really wants me to use it.. The materials used are okay I think.. its made of clay and it has two holes, one on the side and one on top. It can also be hanged on the outside of the cage and its pretty big too and strong. I though of covering the top hole and connect the other one with the cage and then I could uncover the top hole to check on the chicks? I don't know.. If I could use it at least once to make my brother happy.. would that be okay? I won't start breeding until next year when my budgies are the correct age but it seems that everyone is getting prepared already lol

Breeding Cages..
I thought of converting a bookcase into breeding cages. I'm not sure about the size though. It allows me to build 3 breeding cages of the following dimensions: 28" Wide 14" deep and 14" high.. is that too small? What are the appropiate dimensions for a breeding cage in inches?

All Yellow Parakeet With Black Eyes?
I agree with KAZ.. A dark eyed clear will have eyes that are a dark plum color throughout its life and a double-factor spangle will have irises that get lighter once it gets older.. and if it was a lutino then it would have red eyes so she must be one of the two KAZ mentioned. Photos would be nice

Yf Type 2, Yf Type 1 Or Neither?
I learned on here that Sky is a sky blue recessive pied female.. when I first got her, her body color was all white except for the lower belly which is blue and her mask feathers were yellow. After her first moult since I got her, her mask feathers got brighter and the yellow diffused through all of the white part of her body but the blue of her lower belly didn't change..so she couldn't be a YF type 2? but if she was a YF type 1 then the yellow would only be on her face and in the peripheral tail feathers am I right? So is she a yellowface or not? and if she is not then how come that all of the white part of her body is now a yellowish white? This is so confusing This an old picture of her.. now the white is yellowish and her mask feathers are a brighter yellow.

My Birds' Diet
Thanks ..but what is kale?
-
My Birds' Diet
Alright I'll have to look for hulled oats then.. for winter not summer I'll keep that in mind. But what about spring? Its still cold here where I live.. and could I give them to them as a treat? or what about in a captive foraging toy so they have to work for them? every now and then? they really like oats.. Or should I just remove them completely and make them wait until winter?

My Birds' Diet
So I've been a little confused lately about the diet my birds should be having and I just want them to have the best diet possible so I really need your help. Here is the diet that they already have: Daily: - 60% Seed mix (with crushed eggshells previously boiled to remove any bacteria) - 20% Rolled oats (which they really like) - 20% Fruits and veggies (mostly celery since its the only thing they have actually touched) Weekly: - Millet Spray - Rice (it could be with cooked peas, corn or carrots) And of course they also have fresh water at all times and a cuttle bone. So what should I change? I don't know if rolled oats are good? and I would also like to introduce some pellets to their diet as well.. about how much of their diet should be pellets? how much seed?what about veggies?

Update On Louie
Yes they did a poop smear and the vet said they didn't find anything abnormal with it.. like bacteria or any organisms like you said. And I don't know what else they did to him but his droppings are normal now not runny or watery anymore, dark green like they are supposed to be and just like my other birds. Thank you ..and I think from now on whenever I get a new bird I'll do what you do and don't change their food like I did.. it sounds way smarter to do it little by little so they don't get an upset stomach..lol silly me that's what I do to my dogs when changing food brands..I can't believe I didn't think of it with my birds :glare: ..but I never had a problem before with my other birds.. I guess Louie is just special.

Update On Louie
Okay so I made the decision, thanks to you guys I decided to take Louie to the petshop.. so I called again and this time I talked to a woman that seemed to know what she was talking about. I told her that I didn't want my money back, all I wanted was for Louie to be healthy like he should be, and she told me to bring him to the petshop. So I took him there but I had my head loaded with questions. I wasn't gonna leave Louie there unless I was sure I was gonna get him back. So she took a look at him and there was this other woman there as well and they told me that he looked normal and that he wasn't even sick but I still didn't believe them..I though that they were just trying to get out of taking him to the vet. But they said they were gonna take him anyway. So I asked to which vet they were gonna take him to and it turned out to be the same vet I take my dogs to which is a bird vet too so that made me feel better. I knew Louie was gonna be in good hands Later I picked Louie up at the vet clinic (I told the people at the petshop that I wanted to pick him up myself) and the vet told me that Louie was fine and that his droppings were normal.. she said that he needed to have the same food he had at the petshop and she also told me to give him pellets and just a little bit of seeds because they are very fattening. She said that the color of the droppings depends on the food they eat.. and I told her my other birds eat the same food and their droppings are way different than Louie's but she said it was only the change of food that made Louie's different. I believed that. So in the end everything turned out okay.. but I bet now everyone at the vet clinic and those women at the petshop think of me as an overreacting and overprotective person! and what's worse is that tommorrow Cookie my dog has an appoinment tomorrow with the same doctor that treated Louie.. I hope no one thinks I'm crazy lol they are gonna be like "oh here comes that overreactive girl that's crazy about her bird" So this visit to the vet left me a little confused about the diet my birds shuld be having.. but I'll post my questions about that in another topic. Thanks for your support and advice I'm really happy I found this site

Hi - I'm New...
Welcome And I agree with Elly in everything she said. Its better to be prepared and learn lots before even thinking about breeding budgies. They are breathing living things and we just want the best for them right? Good Luck! Everyone here is great and there's so many experienced breeders on here that will be able to help you with everything

I Need Advice Asap
okay.. so Louie is sick and he needs to go to a vet. Well since it hasn't been 15 days since I purchased him from a pet shop their policy is that they will provide any veterinary care he needs in the 15 days from the day of purchase. So I called them today and they told me this: "Well what we'll do is take the bird from you and give you your money back then we'll take the bird to the vet and call you when he is healthy again so you can buy him again.. but you know when a bird is sick it is usually to late for them" And I was like "okay.. what are the chances that I'll get the same bird back?" he said "well it depends on the bird." And then I thought..what if they don't really take him to the vet and they just tell me it is too late and that I have to buy some other bird? but well they are a very famous pet store they wouldn't do that would they? but they did sell me a sick bird.. that I've grown attached to already What should I do? its almost the 15 days and I don't want to let the opportunity of free vet care go away.. and also because I'm a little short of money this week and I believe Louie needs to go to the vet ASAP.
