  1. i do something like that for the cuttle fish out the in avary, however I put the holes at either end not in the middle (you do have to be mindful of snapping the ends off if too close)
  2. dominant pied yellowface type 2 - libby the slight palness to the bars would be due to the baby feathers before moulting (they are more dull in colour than the adult feathers)
  3. simply crossover is something that happens randomly with genes that are close to each other on the DNA, which causes a different outcome in the offspring.
  4. okay first off- i started skimming this thread so if it has been answered already sorry. You new one is a yellowface type 2. You will have to wait for the moult to finished to see of change in frather colour evens out or not. If not then a DF yellowface type 2 tends to get more a of a patchy look to the feathers than a single factor (who in the end looks almost like a normal green)
  5. black eye with iris ring - the thing to look for when trying to work out if a bird is a DF spangle.
  6. yellow face 2, recessive pied i would want a better shot of the cere to say for sure him or her. the flash may have affected the colour
  7. yf is interesting sometimes with giving patchy markings on teh body. it will be good to see pictures of her when she has moulted a few times.
  8. a grey grey wing would appear more white than blue. As it is dominant over blue and (as a single factor) would have had a 50% chance of giving that gene to the offspring, any that did have a grey gene then would appear grey. I still stand by the fact he is a Blue greywing
  9. he is a greywing, the pale tail tell you that he can't be clearwing.
  10. the yellowface bub will be the key to which parent has the gene. If the baby turned out to be type 2 then it's from the father, if a type 1 then it's possible from the mother - more test breeding would be needed (to an other white faced blue) and thanks for the wing shot lady.
  11. Norm PARBLUE is the technical term for yellowfacees, the gene only works PARtways. The face that the wing shot seems to show green feathers makes me think he isn't yellowface as all yellowface birds keep the blue coloured feathers even if the green has bleed further down the body.
  12. depends on what you are after. Rusty with Ino but if i remember correctly the pairing of them can create smaller birds. a split male, a green or violet would be a good match.
  13. yeah the breeder is keeping tight fisted on the gene too from what i've read, it hasn't being mentioned for a while I'm hoping the mutation is still about in the Netherlands.
  14. a double factore type 2 yellowface just gets less bleed of the yellow into the body it will not strenghten or weaken the colour of the face. the bleed that does happen can appear more patchy. raven's pics are correct in showing how the double and single works.
  15. I agree with you karen, he isn't a goldface due to the fact it seems there is green under the wings. But one of them is carring the yellowface gene (most likey him)
  16. Dad I would state is a greywing as well, can we get a shot of his tail (or tell us the colour) The hen is carring the greywing gene for the babies to appear as greywings as it is a recessive gene meaning it needs one from each parent to show.
  17. this family line again I think there is always going to be some questions as to what they are carrying here. as others have stated it's unclear on just what the first hen was masking with the ino gene.
  18. finding a book on JUST budgie breeding is hard. Hunt in your local library for any budgie books and it will have some basic info, which is a good place to start. a book called Caged and aviary birds has some good information on breeding budgies (and other birds)
  19. thanks Kaz I was thinking they where different but with a quick look online couldn't find the list.
  20. first picture: opaline Sec: only see spangle third: cinnamon Fourth: could be cinnamon but I think normal.
  21. Loreli - any pictures of the cage? keep in mind if you are still hunting for a partner to keep to the quarantine rules first. and of cuase keep reading up on what is needed, it's never a bad idea to re-read things as well until it's clear in your mind what you need to do. and good luck, I hope you have spoken to the rest of the family of what is involved as well. they will be a great help in the journey.
  22. black from my understanding is this years colour.
