  3. Hi, and welcome to the forum !!! Dizzy is gorgeous! He is a sky blue yellow face opaline spangle (I would guess under 5 months old due to his iris rings are still a bit grey) Lizzy is a grey spangle Loral is a bit harder to pick, I'm guessing he is a full body grey wing, olive, yellow face and Lola, she is beautiful !!! Looks to me to be a cobalt recessive pied yellow face Lovely birds!!!!
  4. This is "Big Bird" a latino. She also has long flighted tail feathers. Very pretty in flight!

Hey! This website is the best I have found for the expaination on budgie mutations! I used this site about a year ago when I started breeding. It's a good idea to print out the info (if possible). The infomation can be a bit overwhelming to start off with. Each time I went back and read over stuff I understood a bit more. Welcome Glen to the forum. It's very addictive!
  8. I read a similar article on this idea for breeding lacewings too.
  9. :what: :hap:
  10. Thanks everyone for your comments!! My husband built this for me very grudgingly. However, when anyone new comes around to our place he is very quick to "show off" the aviary. I'm in the midst of collecting old rusty "stuff" as most of the wheels and ploughs in the photos are my brother in-law's. (We are looking after them while he is in between houses). When I get some more things setup I'll post more photos.
  11. I'm sorry to correct you Neat, but ......... If the cock is not split for ino, the mating will not produce any visual albinos. This is due to the ino gene being sex linked, in other words, linked to the X chromosome. The only way to get albino hens, is if the cock is split for ino, which will produce % of albino hens and cocks. However, in both cases, all "non-visual albino" cock chicks from the matings will be split for the ino gene. This link might help: http://www.budgieplace.com/gen_ino.html
  12. How about: Seaspray Lilly Lagoona

Some of my budgies do that too. I had a pair in a cage inside for a while, and the cock bird would sleep like this all the time. My husband just recently went outside late in the night and reported back to me the next day that he noticed "all" the budgies attached to the wire of the aviary. I wish he had woken me and told me. I would have loved to have seen 20 budgies all sleeping this way!!!
  15. Just potting mix or outside dirt? Does it have to be cleaned somehow (I mean from wildbird germs). It's an awesome idea, I'll start it today, I already have some sprouted seeds so I do it with them! I peronally wouldn't use potting mix. Most mixes include premixed fertilisers. Checkout the labels these days. They usually say that you should always wash your hands after using them! You can't beat good old "mother earth". Just make sure you collect it from a clean area. (Not where the cat or dog do their business!!!!)
  16. You have beautiful birds. Great pictures! Those mutations sound right to me. Welcome to the forum! :parrot:
  17. Yeah. You said he is heavily marked. I wondered if this will fade through molts or stay quite black. I'm sure JB waas thinking along those lines too.
  18. Yes Jess you must keep this one in your thread!
  19. It must have been about 12.30 ish. GenericBlue and myself were on our way home from picking up our birds from MB (who picked up birds from Splat on w/end) How long have you been working there? I got my gorgeous recessive violet pied from there at the start of August. I would have expected you to have snapped him up.
  20. Let me guess what they are going to be!!!! A blackface and a violet pied! Saw your "hold" sign on the cage today in the store. Can't wait to see the pictures!! They have a blackface at the store?? Yep, and I would have bought it too if Jess didn't grab it. A very interesting bird to have in the aviary.

  22. This photo is so cute!!!! I don't have a name suggestion yet. I was just overcome with cuteness!
  23. Congratulations MB!!!
  24. Thanks MB for picking up GB's and my bubs too. Can't wait to see them Tuesday!!!
  25. I agree that "lemon" is a Yellow face factor 2 sky blue, but its hard to tell whether she is a double dominant pied. With a dominant pied, their eyes develop an iris ring (the white part of the eye). In a young bird, this starts out as a very faint thin grey circle on the outside of the eye. Take a close look at Lemon - I assume she is at least 3 months old since you have had her for 2 months already. If you can't see the iris ring then she is likely to be a recessive pied - which have "plum" eyes (no iris ring) throughout their entire life. I am not saying she is or isnt a Double factor dominant pied but Kazzy......here's something new to add to your knowledge. Double factor dominant pieds most often have an iris ring on one side and none on the other so you would need to see both eyes. I've heard of this. Is it always the case that each eye is different for a double dom? I just put 2 dom pieds down to breed - it would be good to know.
