  1. I love these 2 baby pics. Is the top one a clearbody?
  2. Thanks! The hatch dates are: 26/1/09, 29/1/09, 1/2/09, 4/2/09 & 7/2/09. So the age difference between to eldest to youngest is 12 days. They do develop fast! I have never taken so many pictures of babies at this age... it has been great for my own reference to document how fast they grow.
  3. Time for updated pictures...... Enjoy: Group Photo: They all appear to be opaline, which means that the cock is split for opaline. Chick #1 (sky, 1 factor violet) Chick #2 (sky, 1 factor violet) Chick #3 (visual violet) Chick #4 (visual violet) Chick #5 (I couldn't resist this one)
  4. They all started with red eyes because both parents are cinnamon. After about 1.5 weeks of age they go dark like normal.

Welcome Emma! You have a beautiful bird there I wouldn't mind one like that myself!
  7. The link you posted of the budgie screeching is quite normal behaviour. As you said, budgies are very social birds. Each budgie will react to sounds or birds chirping from outside differently. Some budgies being more vocal than others.
  8. Can some texas clear bodies have red eyes too?

From my experience it isn't an exact science as to the time frame of hen accepts a cock. I have a hen that would mate with anyone if she was allowed to. It depends on the bird and their temperment. I was at GB's place last week, and I had a crack up moment. She has a hen with 2 cocks that have bonded to her. Both cocks were preeing her at the same time! Threesomes?!?!?

How did she go Jess? Any updates?
  11. Okay, photos as of today: Chick #1 Chick #2 Chick #3 Chick #4 Chick #5 Dad is feeding the hen all the time, he has turned out to be a great father GB! And Mum now very happy when I clean box out every day. The first baby is also very inquisitive, it doesn't fret when being handled, it will be a good tamed one when it gets older.
  12. Hey Sunshine, I went into the shop on Thursday and the girl there said the owner is trying to sell his business. She had someone looking through with an agent recently. So if you don't get a call back it might be because he found a buyer.
  13. I think Daz means 50% double factor VIOLETS not double factor spangles. That sounds great. The more visual violets the better! At this stage it looks like chick #1 is normal winged opaline, and showing promising signs of violet. Chick #2 and #3 is spangle, #4 looks like normal wing, and too early to tell with #5. Hope to have updated pictures soon.
  14. My violet spangle cinnamon hen and her violet cinnamon recessive pied cock have finally had their first clutch of babies. This was a very anticipated event as I have had the hen for about a year now, waiting for her to mature. And of course when I found her a beautiful cock last June, the wait was even more exciting. The hen (Violet) The cock 6 eggs were laid, and 5 were fertile and hatched. The first baby was born on 26/1/09 the day before the big heat wave in Victoria. I brought the breeding cage inside into the laundry on that day, hoping that the hen would stay on the eggs as there was already one baby. Fortunately she did. They experienced very nice airconditioned comfort inside while the other budgies (in the aviary) swelted. The last egg hatched this Saturday just gone. The bushfires were stressing us all, including Generic Blue who was isolated from her family for the day, but we were lucky to actually watch and assist with the hatching. It was a positive spin on a horrible day, and gave us a "pick me up" that we needed. Photos of in the nest: Photo's of babies as today: The eldest chick is very inquisitive!
  15. This photo was taken on my mobile (sorry for the quality) at about 12pm from my backyard in Warragul. I got a call from GB who was stuck in Warragul and unable to get back to her family (including young daughter) as their town was evacuated at 10.30 this morning. At this moment the town is still under high alert with ash and amber attack. Her family has decided to stay in the home as you can't see or breathe outside. All precautions has been put inplace to save their home. Power is out. Birds and animals unfortunatly have been left to the grace of God. So GB is asking you all to please think of her during this time, and for anyone who is religious, please pray and put it out there that family and daughter (and birds of course) survive this ordeal. Bird lack of oxygen is a major concern at this time. (You can't see two feet in front of yourself) We both went through our own ordeal here at Warragul at my place, as we watched about dozen plus fire engines go down the road near were I live. The fire started from embers about a km away, while the wind was blowing down wind towards us. So sorry for no photos of this time, as GB was trying to calm me down, and filling bath, sinks, washing machine..... with water. The sky was pretty much like your photos above *sunshine*. We are now out of danger, for now, but sending our thoughts out to those in same position. And keeping positive about GB's little girl for the night.
  16. Thanks Kaz. The clearwing mutation is one I haven't grasped properly yet. I will eventually get it someday!
  17. I agree with the spangle and he is definately not cinnamon, but could he also be a clearwing? The body color is very bright..... making me tend to lean to this idea.
  18. Great read, Thankyou.... always open for ideas and suggestions during this hot time of the year.
  19. I agree.... That picture is sooooooo cute. I'll vote on that one!!!!

Hi welcome to the forum. I agree with everyone else...... you should find a new home for it rather than put it down. You shouldn't have a problem finding someone who will want it. They make the best pets. My bird 'Daisy' in my signature is normally feathered in every way and has never looked like a runner as described, but still she doesn't fly. She lives in the aviary with all the rest of my birds, she even has a mate, but doesn't fly. I just make sure there is a branch for her to climb up from the floor of the aviary whenever she looses her balance on a perch. She is the best bird I have ever owned. Very friendly and tame.
  21. I just had the loveliest idea for your extra special Aviary that your hubby built! You could have window boxes with budgie seed growing in them! That is a really good idea!!!! I won't mention it to him today though........ He is on couch flicking between tennis & cricket on the TV and doesn't want to go back to work in the 38 degree temperatures predicted for tomorrow. I'll keep you posted though!!!
  22. That's fantastic! While picking grass for my birds today, I was wondering how this idea went.
  23. Hi, this is my yellow face 2 opaline cobalt cock. His name is 'Big Blue', or "Gorgeous" as my daughter calls him.
