  1. Very Good Ains. I can't add anything more to what you have stated.
  2. Paul that is a great aviary for that money. Anyone getting it should be thrilled.
  3. I've now been using the program for the last 6 months or so and it is great. If you have any problems let me know and I might be able to help.
  4. To clarify Paul if the bird was under 3 months and hadn't moulted for the first time and the cere was textured and had the nassal rings i'd say Hen. If the bird's cere was smooth and no nassal ring i'd say Cock. You can use this proccess from about 21 days old. I'm am usually 75% right with the birds in front of me. But some are difficult.
  5. It does differ between states. Here we have Nest feathers, Young Birds and Old birds. Sometimes we also have any age. Young birds differ on the hatch date. At the monment I think it is 1st July 06. After that date they become old birds.
  6. There is no age limit to showing. You will have to check that you can show a bought bird. In most areas of Australia this is not allowed and you can only show birds that are breed by you. Hath can advise you of the ruling in England.
  7. Are they copper or brass.. Copper turns green with tarnish.
  8. I thought the same Sailorwolf Ann have you got the new IE 7 with the zoom level? You can zoom to 400%. The cere to me looks crusty and tan.... But you know what my eyes are like...

I would be counting 18 days from the second or third egg. It's a good guilde. You can of cause candle the eggs to see if they are fertile. You can shine a touch through the egg to see if the chcik has developed inside. If the egg is clear after 7 days it is probibly not fertile. Do this once only and make sure your hands are washed with good quality soap so that you don't infect the egg with bacteria on your fingers. I would leave the egg then for your hen to look after. She will know best.

To me you have too much fillng. The hard boiled eggs are great. I'd leave the shells in as well. (Put through a blender) take way the biscuits and add greated carrot or broccoli. I take it that the Medicated Chic Starter is a high protien base food? You already have the protien in the eggs. I would probibly have some added Vitamins. Also you could add soaked hulled oats and wheat. (soaked over night with some avicleans or simalar).
  11. You have a Recessive Pied Skyblue Hen.
  12. Welcome from the Sunshine State
  13. Well I saw plain baby oil used and it worked. The bird had it on the cere and the legs. Enough to cause the swelling on the leg with the ring. A top breed was with me and asked what I used. I was using Scaly Face from Arstopet. He showed me what to do with the baby oil. Just massage it in and the scale come off. The birds has had two applications, that was three weeks ago and no sign of scaly face yet. It has to be good quality baby oil not the home brand rubbish.

....either Bea you have a good memory or it wasn't that long ago.... :
  15. Neat they are nice birds but need some improving. Selective pairing could give inprovements to their young.
  16. Blackface (melanistic) Budgerigar

It is better to have the mesh or grate bottoms as the droppings are kept away from the birds. In having said that, all my breeding cages are timber bottoms with newspaper. I change this once a week and have had no problems.
  18. Hi Jillinda I have Budgerigar Program. Click on "Add a budgie" Next to "Variety" is where you have the type of bird. If you have a complex one Like a Yellowface Spangle Dominant pied. You can just type that in. The section under that "Split to" is for the split genes. It might be a cock that is Skyblue but split to opaline. That is where you put the split.
  19. Wish that was true.. I have paired flecked to clean and got about half & half. You can get birds that are split to flecked. I have a bird like that. Paired two clean caps and got this one. Spangle Opaline Grey Hen The Sire and Dam was both clean caped. I think he is split to flecked.
  20. There is current discussion that the poision from the grub of a particular moth causes French Moult... I have put in the moth traps to catch any geting in to the aviary. All food should be in air tight containers.
  21. The number of birds depends on the perching. current allowance is for 160mm per bird. But you also have to take in the feeding and watering arrangements. Over crowding causes stress which leads to sickness. At 900mm wide if you put in two perches at each end. that is 4 perches at 900mm each. that is 3.6m, each bird will want 160mm to themselves that is space for 22 birds. "MAX". As you don't have the floor space to have feeding for that many birds at one time. I would limit it to 12 birds. My junior flight is 2.2m x 1m and is 2.2m high. I currently have 22 birds in it and to see it. They have plenty of space. Using the rules above. I could have 39 birds. http://www.flexi.net.au/~dwellsadsl/aviary...ary-layout.html < My Aviary Set up. My Junior Flight
  22. This bird should not be in ASV AOV Class 47 / 49 . It should have been entered in DF Spangle Class 33. It should have been wrong classed

How long have you paired them. If over 4 weeks remove the nest for a week and then retry or rest them for a week.
