  1. These things take time, look how long it took me to do my projects
  2. Memonty if you are still coming over tomorrow afternoon, see if you can bring him and i'll have a look at him.
  3. The photo of the pied shows her out of condition for breeding, but some hens never have a cere change. I have a hen that cere is light blue. I'll be pairing her in the next week or two. If you have had the nest box there for a while with out any interest, removed it for a week and then retry it for 4 weeks.
  4. Hows the make over going Nerwen? Hope it's going well
  5. Recessive pieds have black eyes too.

I think someone pulled this article up. D.E.C.. Unfortunately not everything you read is accurate. Let's see what the experts say. DEC from Ghalib Al-Nasser Information by Ghalib Al-Nasser (Budgerigar Society - President 2001/2002) (World Budgerigar Organisation - Secretary/Treasurer)
  7. One big difference between the pet birds and the show birds is that they have been breed with people always ooking into the nest so from a chick they are used to hearing the tap and the hen leaving, a hand coming in to pick them up. It is rare that one will have a go at me. I have had the hen playfully nibble my hand but have never had one bite me. Everyone that comes to see my aviary sees it. The show birds are so placid. :ausb: .......... oh yes I have two pet style birds and yes they bite me.
  8. Some of mine just nibble me through the hole but it depends on the parent. Some might have a go at you. Some might be fine with it. You will have to see what reaction they have.
  9. I this case ... yes. The question was What would the chicks be???? The answer - none.
  10. I would start handling them now. Make sure your hands are washed and warm. Start with only a minute and ramp it up over the next two weeks. Try to make it about the same timeeach day and you should see them look forward to it.
  11. I got a program called Bird Tracker.. It does the same. I still use it but rely more on The Budgerigar Program.
  12. Macka when I first got interested in Breeding and Genetics I bought a book in it. It had all these terms, when I started with the club I found 50% was not used and the terms such as parblue was Suffusion. But it was interesting at the time and gives me the basics on pairing these days.
  13. Some Interesting facts.
  14. I nev er did find out. I couldn't get any fertile eggs off the Hen.
  15. A Funny from the past.
  16. Nerwen Have you got an up todate photo of Poka?
  17. Guess what was I drinking back when I did this one..
  18. Splat I hate to tell you good news but I hope you get used to that look. You'll need it for Show Remember this one. http://home.gil.com.au/~dwellsadsl/2007_chicks/PR-7_252.jpg Thats the look, unfortunately he got FM.. He will be leaving me too this weekend. No you don't have Feather Duster. At 5 weeks old they will look like this. You get to know around the 3 to 4 week mark that your "Stormer" is in trouble.
  19. To answer your question.. No
  20. Hi Splat at first I thought a light case of French moult but the feathers look strong to the wing buts and are not deformed in anyway. Are there any feathers missing or just not fully developed? I don't think it is FM. I would try to get soe Olive LEaf Extract from the chemist and dabb it on their wing buts. This will help the feather growth. If you look at the ends of feathers that have fallen out and they are round and smooth, that is good. But a bird that develops FM or Polymivirus has deformed ends on their feathers. Some information on French Moult PDF Document on French Moult or Polymavirus What Dr Marshall says on the subject -it very good.

If you can get F10 avian disinfectant, it would be handy. You might have to try a vet.
  22. Make sure that they have access to water or some moisture or they might dehydrate. The cock should continue to feed them. If the chicks are older then 28 days they should be okay. I have made some timber shelters simalar to what Kaz has discribed and I place it under the seed container when the oldest reaches 28 days.
  23. Plum eyes belong to Fallow.. she's not a fallow i'd say lutino. Breed her to a normal if she is df spangle all your chicks will be sf Spangles. If she is a Lutino no chicks will be spanlge or Lutino all will be normal. Cocks will be split lutino.

Well put KathyW. Some breeders think it's good to get a Feather duster. It means they have over stepped their ambition on developing that type of feather. They wouldn't survive in nature as they would not find enough to support them. It is unfortunate.

The problem is that they're protien requirement is so high that unless you give them near pure protien they will starve to death. It is a terrible way to go. This was the recessive pied that I had. It starved to death even though it had enough food. It physically can't eat enough to servive. Poor things. I have to agree with Macka. It is a difficult to keep them alive and healthy.
