Croakers:
A croaker is the sound that some budgies do. I have a Skyblue cock that's a crocker and a recessive pied grey cock. A cinnamon Grey that I sold to Karen was a croaker. It is just a sound they make.

What's The Difference
Thanks all. I am still learning and as they say getting my eye in. I enjoy talking to the open breeders and the judges and am not concerned about get things wrong for this is where we learn. I was with the breeder of this bird today and he was explaining that the birds is a very good stock bird., It is only 4 months old and shows great pertential in the breeding room if not on the bench. That is something else I need to learn about is how to distinish between Show, stock and the pet birds. There is a fine line and only a good eye can tell some apart. I must admit that this is a very interesting hobbie. I am enjoying every moment of it. I have know I have much to learn and happy to discuss what I have learnt on the forums.

Hints For Beginners
Very Good advice Lady. The idea of a quick soaking of the egg is to soften the shell ready for hatching. I have never done this myself.

What's The Difference
You are getting there and have named a few. Looking at the "Birds" the Grey has a better overall look especielly in the head and shoulder qualities. The back line is letting it down. With the tail on the perch it really shouldn't have that raised rump. When it stood preperly on the perch you can see how bad that rump is. Now looking at the "trees". There are Spangles. The Grey has no wing markings. The Hen has far esperior marking than the Grey. It does have a better back line and is a better quality spangle. That is why it won. I was firstlt drawn to the head qualities of the grey. That is why I questioned the judge. But as the judge commented you must weigh up the rest of the bird and also the variety. The grey is a poor quality spangle but has better qualities in other ways. But it being judged as a spangle. The perches are correct. It is just that the Grey is a very big bird.

What's The Difference
Macka the bird that won was mine and I question the judge as to how on earth he could have called that one. As far as I was conserned the Grey was far above my hen. When he told be I understand. hint Don't look at the forest, look at the trees. :fear

Disaster In The Baby Aviary
Spat go to your Chemist tomorrow and see if you can get some fungalin losingers (sp?) for a sore throat. 4 tablets to 320ml water Crush the tablets first. Take all the water away from the birds and only give that, with their seed. See the av vet on Monday. This is totally harmless to the birds, but is the treatment for Mega. I give this to the birds for 10 days once a year. It is cheaper than Megabac S but is the same thing. A bottle of 20 will do 40 birds for 10 days. Costs about $20au

What's The Difference
Here are two spangles. They were competing against each other in the same variety class. Why did the one with the 1st Price win? Spangle Opaline Grey Green Hen (won 1st Price) Spangle Grey Cock. (out of 4 birds came last)

A Little Surprise
Norm Single Factor Spanlge to Single Factor Spangle gives 25% Normal, 25% Double Factor and 50% Single Factor Spangle. Double factor in the blue series is white and in the green series is yellow. Spangle to spangle will increase the wing markings.

Melanistic Spangles
Hi Guys Sorry here are some quick shots of them this afternoon As you can see one has the bludy colour with the white wings. There is a hint of cinnamon in the wings.. The other is pure white. I'll try to get some more shots in a few weeks time. I have been at the Pine River Show today. We have a rural show. I got 2 1sts, 1 x 2nd and a 3rd. More information latter

Mutation Identification Help Please
The first one has full grey colouring on the wings. Full colouring on the wings is caused by the opaline gene. If it was white with grey markings I would say Dilute but there is too much body colouring that is why I have said Opaline. I said Dominant pied because the body to me is patchyand there appears to me to be a hint of a head spot. I also said I am not sure as well. Now the next one. The body markings look to be Banded in mauve (to me) as in Dominant pied. The Yellow face has clearly bleed into the top part of the body, Yellowface yes type 2, and the wing markings to me appear to be an opaline spangle. Spangle Opaline Grey Green Hen What was the parent? Green is the wild gene so all birds can throw a green chick.

Mutation Identification Help Please
Very interesting, the first one is a cock but can't work it out possibly a dominant Pied opaline grey. The second is a dominant pied spangle opaline yellowface light green cock. Both are young birds.

New Method Of Budgie Sexing.
These are the pelvis bones. It is one way to sex peach faces. It would probably work for Most parrots.

A Little Surprise
I am trying the Jeff Attwood approach. To better the wing markings on a Spangle, breed Spangle to Spangle. I know there is supposed to be 25% normal, 25% DF Spangle and 50% SF Spangle but i haven't found that to be the case. Out of the pairings last year I only got 1 DF Spangle. I got a high percentage SF Spangle with improving wing markings.

A Little Surprise
Yes you can have a cinnamon DF Spangle but you wont see the colouring. The DF maskes most colours... except th ones you want it to mask. :budgiedance: Isn't that right Macka. We call it suffusion. I have a nice DF Spangle from two Spangle Grey Greens.. Except the grey green suffusion is evident on the breast.. I am hoping it will moult out. to pure Yellow. A lacewing is not really a cinnamon ino.. well it is in a way but it is not that easy to pair an ino cock to a cinnamon sky hen and expect to get white lacewing hens. It's a bit more than that. The result is a lacewing but only 3%. To achieve a lace wing. Pair a Lutino Cock to a Cinnamon Hen. Or a Cinnamon Cock to a Lutino Hen. = Normal / Cinnamon / Lutino Cocks. & Cinnamon Hens. next pair the Normal / Cinnamon / Lutino Cock to a Normal Hen. = 48.5% Normal / Cinamon and Normal / Lutino Cocks 1.5% Normal and Normal / Cinnamon / Lutino Cocks 48.5% Cinnamon and Lutino Hens 1.5% Normal and Lacewing Hens okay now that you have a Lacewing Hen pair her to a Normal Cock. = Normal / Lacewing Cocks Normal Hens. The Lacewing acts the same as a ino gene. A Cock bird can be split to lacewing.
-
A Little Surprise
I think you might find it to be a poorly marked spangle. It would have to be a hen for it to be a cinnamon and the Cock would have to be split to cinnamon. As Macka said, it would be best to wait till it moults out.

Results Of Cin Violet/grey
What was the pairing? For Greywing both the birds must be split greywing or be a greywing. He maybe cinnamon skyblue. The body colouring is light which could be caused by the cinnamon gene.
