  1. I have box on the bottom of the breeding cage that has holes in it for the chicks to hind. But you must be quick if the hen or cock get aggressive. In my case it was the hen. So I removed her and placed her in another breeding cage. Each night the cock spend some time with her and then the rest of the night and day with the chicks to continue to feed them. Saturady the chicks will be going to the nursary and the hen can return to the breeding cage to continue, unless she starts a new round in the breeding cage she is in and then the cock will move down perminantly.

The next big auction is the BRASEA Action here in Brisbane. http://www.brasea.com/bba.html I think there are too many birds in this one. There is an 06 Gazzard Bird late in the day. Lot 327. I wonder if it will keep the punters there. 345 birds is a long day.

Norm I think that you can get some good bird at good prices from any Breeder. You will have to pay a bit more for some of the really good birds, but you really need to start off small. I bought three birds for $30 ea and two have been a great start to my stud.

Can I put forward a view...... If some one had the National Winner... why would he sell it?? If I had the national winner I would only sell it if... 1. It wouldn't breed. 2. The offspring wasn't good.. 3. There was a problem with it... In two weeks time there is a bird in the Brisbane auction that is a Gazzard Bird. 06 rung that is being sold by another breeder... why???!
  5. Art is in the eye of the beholder. I have seen art that I thought is junk to see people bid a lot of money on. Who am I to say what is good and bad. A very good Australian Wine critic once said "if you like the taiste then drink it." If you like the look great if not so be it.

There is a post that I put up in the Show Breeders section. Let me introduce Henery to every one. I was a very beginner and raw novist. Little over 12 months ago. (Still am a novice ) I was at a show in Brisbane and was being coached by the president of my club. A nicely dressed man came a sat next to me in the open section. He first asked if the seat was free. It was as the president had gone to get a drink. He asked if I had any birds in the show. I told him that I had just started breeding and hadn't started to show yet. He asked what Club I was in and I told him PRBS. He siad it was a good club and that the members would help me. I asked if he had many birds in the show, he said he had a few. I asked how he thought they would go. He said he wasn't sure and we would see. I thought he was a gentle man and was interested in his name. Before I had a chance to ask the presedient came back and said "Oh Darryl I see you've met Henery George." I had heard about Henry and it was a pleasure to meet him. Henry had over 30 birds in the show and if they didn't win they came 2nd. I found Henry to be honest and down to earth, He help me with some tips. Every time I have run into Henry, be it at his Avery or at a show, I have found him to be a true Gentleman. I have known Henry over 12 months now as an aquantance and he has always been the same. I have found many like Henry in the fancy. Gerald Binks and Jeff Attwood to be the same. As many in Australia. It is truely a great fancy to be proud of.
  7. Ohhh so it's split recessives then... That godd Kaz. a good split is better than a normal any day.
  8. So these aren't the parents... I thought the cock was recessive...
  9. You'll have recessives or split recessives if that hen isn't spilt herself

I am sitting back at the moment designing a new set of breeding cages for myself. I am also doing the new metal fronts and trays... Only thing is the wife would let me upgrade until the current ones where out... Damn I made them to good to wear out to quickly. Might sell them after this season
  11. Norm you are right in many facits. It is in the eye of the beholder as to whether something is beautiful, an improvement or a step in the wrong direction. Technology and man's decisions have bought many problems. But it has brought changes some in the right direction. 2000 years ago life expectancy was 36 to 40 years old. We now live a good life into our 80s and in some cases 100s. The change and evolution of the budgerigar has occured over a short period. Only 100 years. In which time we have found genetic mutations they do excite us and horrify us. It is up to all of use (Breeders) to breed in to the birds not only what is required on the bench for show but also longertivity in the birds. Man has taken nature and has changed it to our needs and ideas. Confussious said "With our minds we creat the world" It is "our" world he talks of. In some countries they have created their world. A world where people want to leave and others want to distroy it. .... But I digress. As with Art, some like the look of a Lutoff Budgerigar and some don't. It would be a boring world if we all thought the same. My post was to show the evolution of a tiny wild bird into what is being presented today on the bench. It is up to others to make up their minds on whether they like it or not. For those breeding and showing, it is the goal to achieve at this time. In ten years time it might be the look of the pet birds. As is the 1958 cock that is pictured above.

Norm HG bought a bird back in the late 90s for $10,000au. He is also one of only 7 people inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame. He knows what he wants and how to use it. He is also a very nice gentleman to know.
  13. what can breeding show birds do well here is an example. Most breeders these days would say the only desirible feature on this 1958 cock was the spots. But in it's day it was considered to be grossly over spoted. In it's day it would have been considered a break through and a fore runner to todays show birds. This outstanding Grey Cock was bred by Les Lockey in 1984, this demonstrated the improvements in the bird in a little over 25 years. Todays top birds Danial Lutoff - Skyblue Hen Danial Lutoff - Light Green Cock We have come a long way in 50 years. But what will the future hold for this special bird. From the wild to the show.

You will need a supply of green and a source of calcium.
  18. Other wise not a bad luty. It does need some frontal but has a good mask. I'd say the tail is not fully grown yet.

....... i would then find the closest vet and ring him and ask if you have a problem in the future would he be prepared to answer a question over the phone.

When you breed budgerigars you are playing with life.. Life is not fair and things go wrong.. Read through the breeding section and you will understand the trouble and pain that can happen. Breeding budgies is a great hobbie but you must be prepared when things don't go the way you want.

I bought them through my club for $8.00. They are made to my design.
  23. Nothong is to the book everytimes with chicks. I had a chick hatched last night that wasn't due till monday. I won't worry about that. If you want to get some extra feedings to the youngest, Passwells and Vetafarm both have very good hand raising mixes that you can get at the pet or produce stores.
  24. Yes standbyme the chick would stay on the floor of the breeding cage and everytime the parents can down to eat it would go at them. I had to add an additional feeding station up high so the parent could eat. The chick would beg for food and the parents would feed it. But when it was full it had a go at them. Bad behaviour, I sold the chick last year as a pet. It was very lovible.

They didn't ask for the deviders specifically. I would need to do them in Melamine and they are quiet a bit more. Here they are (nearly) finished. Just waiting for one more front. Trays are in. The metal trays are rust resistant and pose no problems to the birds. No dropings can seep in to the trays and they are so easy to clean... There is only one problem. I love them so much I want to keep this set... Nest boxes are done and ready to go.
