Need Advice
One problem is that Hens sit differently and keep eggs at different temperatures. Fostering in the middle of incubation can addle the eggs due to differences in temperatures. It is best to foster a day or two after they are laid or just before they are due to hatch.

What Colour Are The 2008 Rings?

When Should I Move Babies
Have some water ready when the chicks hatch. A drop on the beak will rehydrate them and give them the strength to call for food. Sometimes a maiden hen will fail to feed her first clutch until she gets the idea. A strong calling chick usually gets her going.

Need Advice Asap!
A lot of time it is because she is bored. There are sprays that will stop her but it will only be a short term remedy until you find out the real cause. She looks healthy and doesn't appear to be drawing blood yet.

Brownwing
The brown wing in Australia is as rare as the Australian Dominant Pied. There are a few around but only a few specialist breeders breed them.

Just Interested....
It all depends on the birds. I like the half half reasoning. If half the birds breed good. If half the eggs hatch good. If half the chicks survive good. and if half the surviving birds win on the bench good. This is of cause a realistic look at it. We all would like higher percentages. I would also prefer more hens to cocks. It's the hens that breed the next generation and they are the ones you get the most trouble with.

Hen Attacks Mate

What's Going On In The Aviaries
For the nationals, yes but id be looking to shows after may / june. If this is the quality that is coming out from the nest, any eggs that are due to hatch from the end of this week, id be trying to get next years rings on them. That way they will be a very good candidate for the 2009 nations in Tasmania.

Think Before You Introduce Your New Bird Without Quarantine Procedures
One thing with AGY is that the bird can have it and live with it but only can be detected "IF" it starts to shed it. You can have a bird tested today and it will show up fine but tomorrow it can show positive to it.

The Parrot
The Parrot A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to clean up" the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior." John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

Please Help
Yes they can die. The air bubble can stop the food from entering the crop. As Kaz pointed out, you massage the crop to get the air out. Lay the chick on it's back in the palm of your hand and gently massage. If this doesn't work you need to PM either Kaz or I to assist.

About To Lay Her Eggs?
Yes Calcivet is a water additive. I am one with Kaz. I give it to all my birds for 4 days every 4 weeks. I have never had a problem while using it. "If you suspect Egg Binding. Add a drop of good quality Olive oil to the vent and leave the bird in a warm cage. The egg should be past with in a few hours. It is a good idea to let that hen rest for the rest of the season."
