The chick is too young for the cock to feed it. It can also be caused by the chick being too impatient in getting fed. The egg and biscuit mix should be crumbly. You can soak some seed over night and drain it in the morning. Then add this to the egg and biscuit. It will stick to the seed and be carried to with it when the hen feeds herself.
  2. To breed Mauves you need to pair cobalt to cobalt. This will give 50% Cobalt, 25% Sky Blue and 25% Mauve.
  3. Aerophagia: Swallowing too much air, a common cause of gas in the stomach and belching. Everyone swallows small amounts of air when eating or drinking. However, rapid eating or drinking, chewing gum, smoking, or ill-fitting dentures may cause a significant increase in swallowed air.
  4. The Skyblue is 6 months he fluffed up just as I took the shot.

Mineral supplements are fed in finger draws in the breed cage or in stainless cups. The birds eat as much or as little as they feel.

  9. In some cases but you need to look at the whole bird before saying what it is. A Black Eyed Clear is a recessive variety but a very special one. As it carries two recessive pied genes and a dominant clearflight gene it has some special features. I believe that the cock's cere is pink not blue, the beak is orange not the normal colour and the feet and legs are pink not Grey. So looking at the DF Spangle we see that the beak is normal colour and the feet are grey.. So this bird probably doesn't carry the recessive pied gene.

Thanks all. I'm at work at the moment to catch up. If I'm not here it doesn't get done. I'll do what I have to and finish off early. Going to Noosa Heads tomorrow for my niece's wedding on the weekend. So it would have been Monday that I would have to catch up a weeks worth of work..

  12. Well we have a show on in a week and 1/2 time. I'd better start at geting the show team togeather. As they will be made up of last weeks show team, they wont have to go through as long training and preparing as the last time. I'll get some shots when they are ready to show.
  13. Hi Samantha, Welcome to the forum Yes there is a way... It is called experience. I pick the sex at 3 weeks but some can do it earlier. I've only had two years experience and have a lot to learn. By knowing the back ground of the birds you can get a good idea of the colours before they feather up... but there is always surprises.

With Eggs it's best to boil for 20 minutes and then let cool slowly. I boil the noght before and let it cool before going in the fridge for the next day. Put the whole egg including shell in a blender with some carrot and spinach. Blend it up and add some bread crumbs or Budgie Starter to make a crumble. That should feed 12 breeding cages. Karthik if you click on my signature, it will take you to my web site where you can read my management. The alow vera can be made into a drink. Add 115 gram to a 1000 ml water. Leave for 24 hours. Take half and dilute with 500ml water. This can be feed straight to the birds. If you leave the skin on, it will be a natural wormer. Top up the remaining 500ml in the fridge with 500ml of water. You can do this each day for 14 days. Or you can slice a leave long ways and toss it into the flights. The birds will eat most of it. Once a week is more than enough. Here is an article I did on it. Natural Conditioning.
