Lin I am a bit hesident about aloe Vera... I dropped into a breeder on Saturday to buy a show case and he invited me to see his aviary. When we were walking to it he cautioned me that there maybe some dead birds as he has feed them aloe to "Clean them out" and that some birds can't handle it. As it were there were no dead birds... I would probibly find out more before I use it.

I actually have a small container (1kg) of hulled oats that I give a little once a week as a treat...just like millet spray. I give it twice a week to the breeders but just a small amount. It keeps up their energy.

yes very correct Hath also make sure it's not treated wood... It's best to leave it out in an open box so that it absorbs the humidity.. Nothing worst than dry shavings drawing the moisture out of the box and eggs or chicks..

Sarah, Diarrhea could be cause by Stress... Change of location and people.... But I would have him checked by an Avian Vet... Take him straight away and let the vet know he has just been bought. He should do a swab for Megga, Canka, ,,,, and a few others...... I hope you have quarrantined him from your other birds..... Karen you didn't get that seed from that produce place off Brisbane St??? I've Been there ....won't go there again either...... Theres a place near me (Carseldine) that is really bad... I might try and take some photos on the mobile and show you guys what a bad place looks like.

Nerwen I just read this..... Don't worry about the PM I just sent.... Lets hope that this one egg might make it...... Well at least you have a found out the problem and how best to help her.... What are you going to do??? Did Danny say that she was carrying an other egg?? If this is a no go it might pay to candle the egg on Thursday to see if there's a chance and if not.. give her a rest... I am sorry to hear this news...

Nerwen I got the same advice from Danny (Avian Vet).... I put mine on Canary Mix untill i found the budgie mix I am currently using. It is beeter to keep them lean and on good vegitables than on the mix you get from the supermarket....

When the oldest gets to 4 weeks I put a spray of millet in the nest box. The oldest will start to eat at it and it gives the younger ones the idea. I place a small dish with egg and biscuit on the cage floor and a dish of sprouted seed, snow pea sprouts and either corn or carrot. The chicks when they come out have something to eat. The parrents will continue to feed them but it helps wean them.

Hi Donna the first is due today plus or minus a day. you can check them by "Candling" them. I don't mean to put a candle under the egg First wait untill it dark or you have a dark room. Get a strong small torch. carefully put the eggs between the torch and your eye. Not too close. If the egg is dark right through there maybe a chick. If it is clear... no good. There was a good link to etteri's site with photos.. i'll check to see if I can find it. Oh one thing..are you prepared for the hatching? Do you know what is going to happen and what can go wrong.?

i'll have to keep an eye on her.... I am think of keeping her and saling the other three.

Not sure , I don't think so looking at the feather tips. The markings are the wrong way round. I know Chime isn't a spangle. I though normal green but can see some bluey green on the tail feathers. might see what happens next week. The braown did show up as much on Vagas' photo. If you go to my site and click on "sale" you can see them next to each other and see the colour difference with Vagas' wings.
