Spangle is a nine to tener. She would lay her first egg nine or ten days after being put in the box. That would make it Thursday for the first egg.

Who Am I?
Hang on girls, it's a bit early to call a Fallow. The fallow gene produces the red eye in the adult not the youngster. I would say girl also nerwen as the cere looks to have also the nassal rings and beginings of the rough texture. The discription that Nerwen uses is the phenotype (What the bird looks like) The genotype (what the genes really are) are yet to be known. She could have some hinden gene. This is the surprise in breeding. Can I through in the blue gene as well.

Ringing Time.
I have rung the clutch of older chicks with split rings. All my birds are rung so I don't line breed. Today I rung the older of the new chicks. He/s is 6 days and as I am very busy tomorrow I thought I'd give it a go. It is the first time I have used a closed ring and on a chick so young. I remember the first time I tried to change my new born son's nappy. I was so scared that I would stick the pin in him, I had to give up. I felt the same today. But didn't have anyone to do it for me. But we got there.

Should be a good 'un You will find it so enjoying and satisfying when completed. Here is my work. http://home.gil.com.au/~dwellsadsl/Images/Aviary1.jpg to Keep photos of how you go and post them up...

Breed Birdies,breed!
better of asking the wife my bird house with everything installed £3000 seed for the year including millet ect £200 then buying your birds good show birds can cost £100's but a good start bird will be 50 to 60 pounds so thats around £100 pair you will need 3 pairs (and they are not gaurenteed to breed) chicks from these will sell at £10 till you start winning shows then you can start charging more (but it is not easy to win) but you will want to keep these chicks from winning stock, vets bills on an average £350 to £500 then when your as daft as me you give away 35% of the chicks to try and get the younger generation interested oh i forgot society fees ring, ring orders and show cages and covers and in my case the electricity to run two fans, heater, lights there sure are cheaper hobbys but in my opinion none more rewarding and satisfying I should have made that 50 - 1000...... I am just doing the sums on the new bird house..... Cost of cement flooring, new shed, alteration to existing shed to convert to breeding house, extra breeding cages ??/$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Hey It's a hobbie and as Hath put it none more rewarding and satisfying

How Many In This Aviary?
Aww Karen..... There would be a good rule to the amont of birds that you can have. I know they say 100mm or perch but thats not enough.

The Cage That We Built
I can't see it either.

How Many In The Aviary?
If I allow 5 birds per perch in my aviary I would get. 40 birds. At 100mm per bird per perch it would be 7.5 birds per purch and I have 8 perches so that is 60 birds. That in my beleif is way too much. I would not go more than 20 birds. That gives each bird. 300mm or 12 inches of there own space. Oh at the moment I have 7 in there. Oh remember in Australia and maybe other countrys there is a max number of birds that you legally keep. In my area it is 20 unless I get a permit.

Natural Light
Kosmo, When you say you have positioned them. Do they face out to the sunlight or do you have them behind the slates. As a fellow Brisbane Boy I know what your house would look like. Have you got them under a verandah or right under the house. Some places in the world have brreding rooms like our old garages, were the budgies don't really get to see the sun much. They put fluorescent lights up with a grow lux or daylite tube. It simulats the sunlight.

See If You Can Solve This One
Leave them for 21 days. If no go take them out for two weeks and then put the female in in the morning and the male in that afternoon or the next morning. Eggs should be in about 11 days after that. :bluebudgie:

We Have A Baby!
Well done wendy... Good to see them going so well. Note: For those that are going to "mark" the eggs remember that the egg shell is porous. It will absorb the ink or dies. Use a non toxic marker or a pencil.
