Sorry Nerwen I forgot to say I play with the chicks for 15 mins each day. After Training this afternoon. I gave them the vegitables and while the parents were enjoying them. I take the chicks out and gently pat them. I start this about 14 days. Vagas is 28 days today and is quite used to me. I'll be doing it inside from now on as she should be fledging next week and might try to start flying. Vagas

My Lutino Hasnt Got Red Eyes.....?
Docca, what do you mean about the white cheek patches? I have a few birds with both, and they are doublefactor dominant pieds. Is that what you mean? The white cheek patch looks great .... and is a dominant physical display of Budgies who when mated produce pied young ... so for instance Harlequins withthis characteristic will produce pied young... and clearwinged pieds clearwinged babes... Lovely Doc Sorry Docca the white patches are recessive. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darry...minantpieds.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/DSCN5189.jpg Poor old george here is a recessive pied with White patches. Black Budgies
Well that could be true. I have had my eyes opened on this forum many times. The best one I have to chuckle to is the one where someone has 5 eggs and when the first one hatches they quickly askes what to do. Incubation is 18 days. What have they been doing??? Someone could have bred a black and didn't realise the significe

New Budgie
With ages on young birds especially thoughs that you get from the pet stores. A chick starts to fledge (comes out of the nest) at about 34 days. Thats 4 - 5 weeks. He will usually stay with his parents for another 7- 14 days. Thats 6 - 7 weeks. He then be placed into a hilding cage to make sure he can feed himself. This is for another 2 weeks. We are up to 9 - 10 weeks. Now is the time that breeders sell the chicks. Some breeders will wait till the first moult to see if the chick is worth showing or keeping for breeding before they sell. Now the chick is 3 to 4 months old before it gets to the shop. Some shops can quarentine the bird for maybe only a week. Some don't and put the chick straight up for sale. One reason to quarentine when you get a new chick or bird.

Black Budgies
The point it is hasn't ben documented. But thing over on the site alone how many breed budgies but don't know about genetics, then think of how many are like that out in ALL the world, some one could have a brand new mutation appear in their flock and not know it's value. I would love to have a black face they look so different and interesting. As to the first question yes many believe all black is possible in budgies, as to if your father in law did or not we can't say but I don't think you will ever change his mind about the fact. Your point is excactly correct. I was going to put that there has never been a black budgie bred but that may not be true. With some so called breeders they may have bred the bird with out knowing it and it may ave liked it's life out or died young. But there never has been a documented photo of one.

Black Budgies
There is a photo of a half sider in a mutation book I have. It's not a budgie but one half is green and the other blue...

Black Budgies
I'm sorry to say that it has never been documented that a Black Budgie has been bred. The first to do it would probibly live very comfortible afterwards. $$$$$$$$$$ The correct term is Melanistic (Blackface)
