  2. Misty I am sorry for your loss. But I can't agree more with terri. This is the very reason to Quarentine your birds when you bring them home. You can not be too careful.

  8. Now Bea I though you were going to be responcible and not breed for a while..... But Blinkie would make a great dad. Out of curiosity I would go with Bobbi. You should get 100% sky blue spangles but it will show up any spilts
  9. Sounds like all is going well Bec. I feed my parents of chicks Snow pea sprouts, sprouted seeds - like mung bean pea or lentle, grated carrot / or sweet corn, cellery. I also sprinkle either multi vitamin or protein. They also get a tea spoon of hulled oats each day. and a teaspoon of dry egg and biscuit. (couldn't get them to touch the wet stuff) With this mix they will certainly grow big and strong. Let us know how they go.
  10. No it's not it's March 2nd In Australia
  11. Don't worry about that other post Nerwen I found this one. Well done..way to go. Has the crack developed more? Is that egg no 2 or 5? It maybe 2 as she maynot have started incubation until the second one was laid. That way you get the first two on the same day.
  12. Up date Nerwen... how is it all going?
  13. Considering that we don't know what they maybe split to ...... Cocks - Cobalt, Split Cinnamon, Split Opaline, Split Recessive Pied, Split Dilute Hens - Cobalt, Cinnamon, Split Recessive Pied, Split Dilute Because as you say the Opaline and Cinnamon genes are sex linked... But wait for the splits and throw backs to show up.

  15. Sorry I can't see the cere the bars in the way and the other has his/her head turned ... :ausb:
  16. I found that "Scaly Face" from the pet stores works okay. Four applications once a day and then once after a week and I have had no return problems. Though I have had only two cases. One with Huey and the other with Jazz. But I caught Jazz's early and it fixed both. With any problems, you have to observe your birds daily and be awear of any changes and act quickly.

  18. ....the dangers of clipping wings.
  19. Meg I can understand your situation. It is unfortunate that your parents wont take you to the avian vet. Can you get some Apple Cider Vinegar and is he drinking? If yes to both, mix 1ml of Vinegar to 100ml of water. thats is 1/2 teaspoon in one cup of water. this will assist in cleaning his crop. As eterri said, we do not know what is wrong with him and so can't suggest medication. This is not medication and may not help but it worth a try if you can't convince your parents to take him to the vet. Also keep him warm, no fruit or vegitables. Seed base only Millet is fine. It's a treat for him. Replace the water Vinegar mixture each morning. We will cross our fingurs for you.
  20. Maybe why it is the name for the grey? :ausb: Anthracite - colour
  21. It was interesting. With this age of modern consepts, we can always learn for the old ways. As far as budgies not having a concept of family, just try close breeding and see what happens when you have young hens in the box..... As soon as they fledge the cocks become more than friendly You must becareful of this as the cocks will mistake the begging for food as something else and the chick can starve.
  22. I believe that it is in all budgies as you said Pixie, but for some reason the imune system in some due to stress breaks down and doesn't control it.
  23. Arrr now Flecking is a term I read in some information on Show Budgies. What exactly is Flecking?
