**HINT** Everytime you handle your birds (aviary ones) give their legs feet and cere a little wipe of Baby Oil. It will stop or fix minor scaley face.

Nerwen the breeder I got her from asures me that she is in top condition.... But I won't be puting her in the flight until I am very sure. I am keeping an eye on her and Ash.. I don't want to lose him. They are both on medication for Megabac and Coccidiosis just in case.

Alan. Do you have any Breeding cages in mind? Mine are from Brendale Produce on Southpine Road. Cost $115.00 complete inc GST. 1200mm wd x 385mm dt x 480mm ht ...and you can stack them. I am converting a 2.4m x 3m shed in to a Breed room come flight. These will easily fit in along the short side. In fact I am going to make up 3 single boxes to add to the same side.
  8. .............and so are the days of our chicks. I love reading this. Really I do. Now after seeing the chicks , I can't wait for mine to hatch... Today was the day I should have gotten two chicks.... Wished I numbered them. Candled the seven on Sunday night and I think I have 5 chicks and 2 clear Oh well hope for the morning.
  9. Una go down to the pet store tomorrow and get a "large" Budgie egg and place it with the other eggs. What can happen is a hen sits too tight on the eggs and chicks and can cause what happened to your chick. The large egg stops the hen sitting too tight and the chicks get a chance to live.
  10. Una go and pick him up. Hold him in one hand in the palm and with the other hold it over the top. Don't squash. The heat from you hands will give him some strength ..if still alive. Don't worry straight away if he is cold. Cross fingurs
  11. ...one question...how do you get a double factor yellow face.. Yellowface is not a dominant, it is a Multiple Alleles. So it can be split to but not double factored.
  12. One thing to be careful of if you are giving vegitables is that you don't want to overdose on vitamins with suppliments.

I know where you can get them in Brisbane but that won't help you in the USA. I think this is what you want or the same in wire cages.

You will learn a lot from geting in to a breeders club. I learnt more at PRBS because of the difference in communication. The forum is great but it is not up to the information you get by sitting and discussing the different aspects of breeding from those that Breed for show. You also get the "local" point of view for your area.

Don't worry about the size of the clutch of eggs. First see how many hatch and keep a good eye on her. Did she have any trouble with the first clutch, if not, this one should be okay. As for the feeding. You should have started feeding them Budgie Starter or Egg and Biscuit mix every day from the laying of the first egg. I also give them half a teaspoon of huled oats every day. Sprouted seeds such as mung bean is good for them as well. You can start this now and it will help, but it might take them some time to adjust to the new food. Keep the seed up to them. Try this link to help with a routine. As for stoping them from breeding....ask Phoebe.
  16. Well instead of a "knee jerk reaction" I had a good look at my birds. Some arn't touching there cuttle fish so those in the breeding oxes I have still given a calcium suppliment. The ones in the house are demolishing thier cuttle bone so no calcium additive. The ones in the flight have been on a calcium additive so I have stoped it, but they seem to be eating thier cuttle bone. So I think you have to make some decissions from what you see. They still need calcium.
  17. Great Photos nerwen.. I can't wait to see the colours. ....
  18. ....you will do as you are told..... ...yes dear....
  19. ....and I've been pumping the calcium into them.
  20. I like them too. Spangle was a type II and chime is a type II. i'll keep Chime but won't breed with the show birds.
  21. it is interesting when you talk to people. A lot of what we discuss here is not what really happens with Australian breeders. I was at a Budgie Show yesterday and mentioned a type II yellow face. and they all told me it's no good. The bleed is bad and I should not be breeding with her.. I remember when I was learning to drive and what I do know. It is the same feeling I get when talking to Breeders.

...well thats not exactly true Kirby we have many from USA, Canada, England, Spain, Germany.... Kim or local Vet (Aviarian) would have an idea of some of the breeders in the area. Or you can try the local telephone book for Budgerigar Societies. They will have a member data base.
  23. Do you still have any of the first clutch ? I would love to see the Photos
  24. They don't have to be detailed to be correct ...okay you get chicks.. sorry
  25. Nerwen do you know why some breeders do this? It was seven days and it was to break any bonds the hen has with a previous mate...
