Crumble Mixture By Darryl Wells - 19/03/2006: 4 x tea spoons of Budgerigar Starter 2 x tea spoons of Crumble 2 x tea spoons of egg and biscuit (or toasted bread crumbes) 2 x tea spoons of hulled oats (soaked for 4 hours and drained is fine) 1/2 cob of corn - kernels removed. (caned corn is suitible) 1 gram of muti vitimins Mix all togeather well and serve in individual dishes. Mixture quantities are for 6 breeding cages. Mixture is not suitible to refridgerate over night. Surplus can be given to flight that night and in the morning to the wild birds. I make this up every day for the birds. They are starting to prefer this instead of seed. I have the nestfeathers on it before going in to the flight. Chime and Snowy love it. You can use any vegetable or combination of vegetables instead of the corn. I also give in another dish chopped up carrot, sprouted seed (mung, pea, lentil) and celery. By 5 pm there is little left for the birds in the flight. ADDED TO FAQ'S

Pixie I would go for mung bean, Rea and lentil. :hap:
  5. Sorry Harry but you should see the first egg between 9 to 15 days. It can take longer for some pairs. If you don't seean egg in 21 days I would take the nest box away for a week and than reintroduce it.

    Not a problem Karen
  9. Now Nerwen my understanding of the Albino is two mutant genes creat it. The Lutino and the Blue gene. The lutino takes out the blue to produce Yellow and the Blue takes out the yellow to produce the white.. Am i close? So it is a blue lutino?
  10. I don't know of one in Perth but there is one here in Brisbane on the 23rd April. WYNNUM REDLANDS BUDGERIGAR SOCIETY INC. Suposed to be good birds. I'm going got to save up though. might be able to afford the bottom on the rung.
  11. I had the pleasure of standing next to a man that was offered $1800.00 aud for an opaline hen at the show last week. It does happen. Oh he refused as I was told latter than he could get close to $3,000.00 for the same bird.
  12. Yes Nerwen...What is the answers???
  13. Some do it for Money. ;( A topb breeder in Perth a week ago needed to raise some money for renovations ... he needed $10,000.00 aud. He took 250 birds to an auction... Now let me say he is a top show breeder... His first bird sold for $5000 aud the next for $3000 aud.... he went home with $50,000.00 aud....how do I know? http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/SWBB-337.jpg Because Jet is one of his birds, and the person I got him off keeps in touch.. I don't think anyone here would be in that circle but it does happen.

I actually found a better price than Bunnings I wonder if they will match it..?
  16. I would also change the perch. It runs along the cage and it looks like the only one in it. I would cut it in two and place it across the cage so that they can fly back and forth from one to the other.
  17. It is an interesting question and one that is going to be asked and will be asked again. I am starting to breed to show. .............. You know what. I have retyped this and retyped this..... you have a point Phoebe. It is exciting to see the egg and then to see the chick. It is a wonder of nature to watch the chick grow into a beautiful creature... But for what. ......? I think the best thing that I get out of this is the fact that I have been involved in the opertunity to give another creature the opertunity that we call life. If it wasn't for the hard work and dedication that I put in, this small Ugly looking thing that we all love so much. Would not have a chance at life. Little Budda To have another creature fly to you and nibble on your ear or repeat what you have tought it is some thing really special. Some thing that not a lot of people can relate to or hope to experience. These are very special birds that we call pets and we are lucky to have them..... I think it is obvious that I love my birds and what I do. But you must be prepared to take the responcibility for them.
  18. I agree with Nerwen the box should be better positioned. Also It is a large box in that cage. Can the birds access the hole or is it in the corner? I would try to place the nest box outside to give more room. Some Examples
  19. Hens usually eat the eggs after the chick is hatched. It gives them back some calcium. I always let my hens have them.
  20. Daz replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
I usually leave them in for 21 days. If no eggs I take them out for a week and then the second time I usually get eggs with in 11 days.
  21. To answer your questions.... 1. I love Albinos but have trouble with the genetics. I have an Albino Cock with a Dominant Skyblue grey wing Hen. I too am looking forward to the chicks. (Nerwen your call) 2. Try taking the chicks from the nest box every two to three days. Make sure mumma stays away and clean out the nest box. If she keep throughing out the bedding. Give up with it. But keep cleaning the box. 3. I don't know but would emagine that they would be the same as any other budgerigar.
  22. godsdrummer209 a couple of questions. How long has the nest box been in the cage. Are you sure that the birds are male and female. Where is the cage with the nest box located. If you have had the nest box for months in the cage they probibly won't use it. Depending on the type of budgies you may have same sex budgies. If the cage is in a high traffic area with people passing by all the time they may not breed. Can you post a picture to show us the birds and the cage set up so we can help.
  23. ...Cod Liver oil and Wheat germ oil - Mix with seed for vitamins and mineral ...Supply of fresh fruit and vegs - good diet. ...Baby oil - scaly face ...Worming mixture - give as directed two weeks after geting them ...corn flour. - for accidents ...disinfectant - to keep the cage clean and safe.

Thanks I need to find another supplier of the Aluminim...Bunnings is going to cost too much for the inside framing.. Problems...Problems... I was hoping to have this finished so that Chime and Snowy will be the first to use it.
  25. If there is any problems after you pull it out just put a bit of corn flour on it. It will stop.
