  3. I guess he just thought, Oh a bird just in the first week of quarantine, let me give all the preventative treatments, antibiotics and worming, etc. I'm not very happy with the way he treated her, to be honest. He did a faecal exam, checked her wings, keel bone, etc but didn't think there was anything wrong. He said the faeces portion was normal looking but the excess liquid did seem quite worrying. I felt her keel bone myself before and I knew it was quite pointy. He kept repeating textbook information (much of which I already know from spending time on BBC) and then sent us home. If we had a car I'd have gone up to Carlingford Animal Hospital where I know they are experienced with birds. This vet is the nearest and he especially treats and looks after birds in the clinic even though he's a general vet -- he keeps lots of birds himself and has treated Django twice this year. From my observations the most worrying thing about Sootie from Monday onwards was her consistently wet droppings, like puddles with a bit of green in the centre, and her lethargy. That indicated that she was not eating and not feeling well. Her cere and the feathers above it were okay. well im sure she was wormed by dave i could be wrong but i ivomectom my babys and birds given or sold and as you said that poo is lack of eatting and intake of fluid's sounds to me like the vt was at fault for her death she should have been crop feed and poo tested for bacteria and fungle before penacillin given just seems very weird but regardless im very sorry for your lose and you did do your all well done on that
  4. twice a day is good once in morn once at night well around 600 pm then do as you did and leave be yes dad okay in box he will be helping usually they do no harm sounds like all is doing well thats good im glad

  12. oh shes very cute thank you for sharring my gal is a blue_grey clearflighted pied the blue grey just means she is a grey bird breed from a grey and a blue breed pairing which gives a blue tinge to the grey colouring
  13. All pied budgerigars are characterised by having irregular patches of completely clear feathers appearing anywhere in the body, head or wings. These clear feathers are pure white in blue series birds and yellow in birds ofthe green series. Such patches are completely devoid of black melanin pigment. The remainder of the body is co loured normally. The Clearflight Pied has two main characteristics: a clear patch at the nape of the neck and, ideally, completely clear primary flight and long tail feathers. All other features are normal. clear flight pieds have also white cheak patches and pink feet however with all the miss breedingbetween doms and clear flight pieds we have ended up lossing the true clearflight traits you bird is a clearflight pied as does not have the spot on head kaz is a dom pied i could be wrong the only way to truley know is to breed your pied to a rec pied if its clearflighted pied you will get black eyed clears if not then its dom
  14. okay i was looking at my birds and i noticed every time i take a look doesnt matter how long for small quick peek or a long sit with them i always seem to hunt down one bird particularly  now as far as birds go its not my best bird or even the prettiest just one i really have a spot for i was just wondering if all you others had on spesh bird that you always hunt down when your looking at your flock or if at home you have one or two birds that you just cant stop looking at or if you had one and have a picture feel wellcome to add it to the list with what it is that really draws your attention to it so here is my fav bird over all i really love the way it interacts with everyone else in the flock and her silly antics she always seems to be holding her top feather up also shes very proud bird ive tryed to cull her 4 times now but no one ever wants her and in the end i just cant do it she always catches my eye and i love watching her play i have pics of her i took recently as a 8 month old i will put them up when they have uploaded in mean time id love to see you fav bird :laughter:
  15. good one liv their is room for us younger breeders to move on up lol specifically if we choose our stock right Funny GB, I have spotted heaps of my birds but this hen just frieked out and 2 years ago when we were spotting my yellowface grey she just died, it was alwful. plucked her spots and she didn't even complain and then put her in the cage but she was dead, Greg gave her mouth to beak but no she must of had a heart attack, scary. One thing you never do is lay a budgie on it's back as they can die or put them upside down. Clearwing told me this and I believe to be right. As for hen I am not sure if we had her on her back or not but that is probably why she died. sad.gif splat i believe that to be true as they panic and sets their heart running if i have a bird have a heart attack i just shove it in a bucket of freezing cold ice water it scares them again and starts their heart pumping yet again lol really works mind you you need to do it instantaneously so must have bucket iced water prepared ready i learnt this from my grand mum who had a canary who had a heart attack and she tossed it under the freezing cold tap when she saw him drop from is perch she also did it to my mums brother when he stopped breathing so.... oviously theirs something in it as hes alive and well to this day :laughter:
  16. Might be one way for Splat to get her travel boxes back as you have them both now   i can pay half freight or all and she can pick em up then lol we could travel birds together and i could collect from her (shes closser to airport and drives see what she says and may see if im one of the lucky contenders on daves list :laughter:  :what: splat expect to hear from me soon )
  17. dont do i what i did with my first new mum and create a monster by hounding her all the time she will look after her chick better if you leave her alone i caused my hen to not only crush chicks by sitting to hard but to pluck and over protect them as i looked to much i sent her to a experienced breeder where she now is a perfect mum and on her second round (mind you their was a gap in breeding attempts im getting her back soon all you need to do is have a quick peep like even just knock on box and bring mum out peek see baby moving and shut door cheack mum over quickly while shes out vishually with your eyes see her health and then thats it clean water daily and gratted carrot would be good mixed with your egg n biskit no need for adding water remove this after few hours so it does not go yuk once all chicks are hatched you may want to add some bedding this is when you can pick up each chick give it a quick once over for deformitys health all that give mum a once over to but again vishually see if shes looking still nice and vigorous not tied and slump dad should helpfeed once all chicks hatch so just keep up the carrot and egg n biskit make sure you have iodine bell calcium bell and lots of seed each chick needs a minimum of one cup a day in seed thats importaint the more you hound mum the more chance of something going wrong
  18. REALLY :what: :hmm: mabe splat we will be going to Sidney  im going to start saving now orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i will find a breeder whos going and intrust them to get me a good buy WHAT YA SAY MR MC DO YOU THINK YOU YOU COULD BE IN THAT i know you know your birds :laughter: pweeeeeze   (mabe next year )
  19. But hey I nearly didn't bring one home last auction  but yep it got the better of me :hap: had to come home with something and I really wished I didn't talk about compulisive that's me. BUT I am having trouble saving this time Merv so I really think I will be looking and not bidding but we will see I actually have my eye on a few but it's the money that is the problem :hmm: I really wish these auctions were in July as I get a bit money then, on the 30th of June and that is tooooooo late and that really annoying. I thought there would be an issue with getting birds into WA? Is that wrong? Y'know, quarantine rules etc?? If not that's terrific. no you can freaight birds anywhere in australia but not out of our country
  20. okay say that again splat aboutthe out cross thinggy please i never really did understand where to go from pairring to chick out come to ?????? then
  21. nice overall colouring splat and what a broad boy got the dimond shape i love about him also
  22. lol dont worry splat im not looking forward to spotingbirds i spotted one kazzys for our deploma show we were just putting birds in so wecould practis we didnt expect to do good and i made her poor hen look like a spider looked like it had beedy little eyes all round its neck lucky im breeding albinos
  23. go linda you never know people always saying certain breeders birds are going to be heaps but then theirs always a bargon to be had if i could go i would just bid on any birds that took my fancy up to the price i was willing to pay per bird and mabe you will get a brake one of them got to be cheep enough like i said just bid on everything till you get one lol i would just dont go over your set price for per bird untill you see you have no hope then meld your limit per bird together to just get one it would be worth it
  24. im thinking thats a good idea splat id love to know how much they go for i know their not cheep
