  1. I remember reading somewhere that citrus is not good for budgies Oranges and other citrus fruits can cause indigestion and fits possibly leading to death. well thats the first i have heard of that where did you read this do you remember i have been giving my birds oranges for years and years but just more often than now no this issue is not to do with dietary this is to do with my aviary and what is the best to use inside it to make false walls and roof and how do i over come the light issue when my sky light will need to be covered i appreciate your helpfulness and input but i just want to know how others have lined their aviarys and if not why is my aviary a dud  i am interested to know where you read about the citrus as im open to anything about now
  2. i like the deportmentship of the first grey boy his nice longer bird good direction going out and over eyes even if hes not got a lot over the head he could be saving that for the gals lol hes a bit short in mask whick is what you want to watch as if you dobble up on a short mask your going to get all short masked chicks i know but in saying that if you used him with you young hen her mask is rather nice in length so and their chicks you could put to long masked birds id keep all your albinos as a good albino is hard to get and cock birds are the hardest he is very usable the second albino / cock is the one i would try with mum see what he produces with her if good then put to you gal his head feather has more height the opaline hen will suprize you i think she has the qualitys again tad short in mask and not the nices sitting hen but he the albino will probbly make good pair to start you id cull the / albino his mask and head just arnt their for show quality you will just go backwards two steps
  3. 6 - 8 sounds cool, I was hoping someone would say that  Another question - what should the ratio of males to females be for that number? I wouldn't want any of them to start fighting. Oh, and I'll try to get a photo of the aviary/cage soon. Thanks for your help. were you planing on one day breeding i would get all one sex if you wernt other wize 4 of each
  4. she looks so happy with herself
  5. all this has sadley changed i nolonger spend much time in my aviry my dogs been gone for a whlie now the cocky now hates me but this was my aviry when nothing was dieing this was in neerim south much colder than here in warragul floor was pebbles and just dodgiematch stick blind for wind its now cost me over 1500 so far
  6. id say 6 to eight mabeif im working out maths right a picture would asure me im not to good with messurments
  7. yes my birds get shell gritand i did revise their feeding planbasiclly seed and freash water with silver beet 2 days a week and carrot and oranges every twice a week shell grit on offer always as with iodine bells and calcium bellsnothing else which for me is hard may be ventilation air flow and build up of moister as you seem to be trying to do what i did and gard from cold weather wind and rain im about ready just to put them all in and say to them right who ever lives stays and who ever dies well you just die  no but really i just want to do this right i did think mabe the smoke from the black satureday could have afected them but that was a long time ago and some my young 3 months died dont know if this will work http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=28491 this is my set up last pictured here it was when i first got it made http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=24822 it makes no sence
  8. I didn't mean the one in the pics, he's her brother from her parents 2nd clutch, all my ablino and albino splits are brothers and sisters over 2 clutches from the same parents. I meant that if I come across a good Grey/albino cock with the right features and breeding to complement her I'll purchase and use him to her and to her mother so I have some 1/2 brothers/sisters to work with. I'd like to obtain a really good quality grey normal to use to get some splits as well. yes sorry good plan brother is nice just he needs height hes one thoughs cobby little boys get him a hen with feather above the head to not to long to start with but with shoulder then from their you can stretch them out abit with out lossing his fetchers by putting the chicks produced to a thin long hen this should balance the whole picture hes nice fella though they both are really nice for albinos really id be very happy with them
  9. all my birds are fine when out of it also they are out at moment and all very happy and healthy i know what it is now linda try putting your birds on a three day treatment of oxy b it has really made a *** of diffrents in my birds lol funny you said about the smaller cages in aviary as i was going to just hang heaps of the wire cages in on walls as they seem very happy in them their easy to clean and you can veiw birds very easily from them i thought i could just let birds out for fly every other day to exercize wings and house them in the cages it did pass my mind as i cut my stock right back you may be having a similar problem as me linda do you have just a tin roof ???? as thats my problem condensation from roof causing humid air that birds then breath (which is possibly growing fungle ) which is causing a build up of extra fluids birds look fine then could be foaming at mouth (bubbles due to water filled lungs ) and then just die symptoms very similar to what a bird with canker is solution it to put in insulation and fake roof i just dont know whats best to use i can only aford one chance at fixing this issue
  10. then dont test mate him as such just use him to a normal grey first you will then know with the hens just be sure you use a cock with no cin hidden shes a nice hen and you could work with her i wouldnt put the grey/with her as hes not got enough about him well for me anyway
  11. well youd have an idea what the perents were right so if mum was albino what was dad rather than test mate the grey boy who if the dad was /cin may only have 25 percent chance of being / cin also him self id just look into dad and what he was split if mum was cin youd be able to see faint wing and spots on her apparently pics can make them look cin sometimes
  12. Wish I could meet you there but I think airfares from W.A. would be more than $150 Shame we can't ship ourselves around for the same amount it costs to transport our birds, I'm sure I could handle a few hrs in a box for cheaper airfairs, throw in a pillow lol if you drive and can hire a car your welcome at mine lol can drive me their with you only theirs only one  so may have to just go for drive I did consider driving my car down, just thought it'd be more cost effective to fly, flight costs vs petrol cost....... Still thinking about it if I do I'll let you know and pick you up on the way. I wasn't actually considering the funnily enough they're not actually a variety I was planning on focusing on it just kind of happened Also I'm hoping on approaching John Smithers for assistance with my Albinos, I'm told he has some of the best ones in NSW and he's president of my local so...... I really like lot 224 the spangle hen pictured and was wanting to get a few birds from a good bloodline to work with. lol hay i was looking at albino for me lol besides im not on way im 3 hours from melbourne and mabe 5 from melton you will want some dollors if you do go i would suspect
  13. well if its goldenface the bird will turn green after molt totally green
  14. hi everyone as most of you may know from reading past posts of mine ive had troubles with my birds from time to time all unexplainable ive had 5 autopsy s done over period of time trying to find out what has killed if anything my birds and all of them came back with nothing except the last one which was in my view weird in its self i have put it down to my aviary on a few occasions but have been told it couldn't be it i have been told its a good little set up until now i have done everything thats been suggested to me to fix the problem this includes first i moved my aviary and faced it north second i brought stainless steel messing for bottom to mouse proof and fox proof snake proof *** its even chainsaw proof and pop riverted it to the bottom of shed so nothing can get in then i layed down white sand and terracotta pavers on top of that i then filled in all the cracks with white cement theirs ventilation holes all along the roof and on the outside on top a topping for the holes to stop the rain from getting in with enough height for the air flow to stay good i went around the whole aviary with silicon filler on outside as so birds cant get to it and filled any little hole possible air space extra i put wood strip ondoor at top and bottom to prevent draft their i then brought a shade sail to put over top to stop cold from getting straight to roof i brought shaded cloth pull down blind 50 percent block coverage for night to block out wind then when that didnt work i make wooden frames and shade clothed them and i made one for front to put up at night with breathable cling wrap industrial strength and still birds were dieing from ????? apparently draft i mean their is nooooooooo draft getting in their  and im soooo lost now with what to do im almost ready go back to breeding my pet type birds but show birds has been a dream of mine since i was 12 so i have persisted over the last year to do everything in my power to fix this but to no avail im trying to put in fake walling and roof as my latest findings are condensation from roof is causing the deaths but im not sure what the best way to go about this is specially as i have a clear (frosted actually)panel for sun to get in and covering roof will cover this and cause aviary to be dark i had a plan and got started on it with some help but i realized that my plan is not going to work for two reasons one i wont beable to wash aviary out as will get wet and stay damp for some time eventually rotting and two the birds will eat the wood planks and eventually get to the polistiring insulation my biggest problem is money i have spent way more on this stupid aviary than you could imagined and honestly id be willing to pay more only i dont have the funding for it right now im saving though i need to know exactly what i need to do and use though to over come my issue so i thought id come here for help see what others have done to fight the dreaded condensation fight the main problem is to keep the aviary at a regulated temp so at night it doesnt drop from 30 plus to 12 bellow in 1 hour or less its the sudden drop and then the humidity in air that is moist due to the condensation causing my birds to die from pneumonia and airsacatittus please anyone
  15. well all i can say is build it straight from mouse proof mesh size wire then your main battle will be won the other questions i dont know being in Australia where you would get it from as for galvanized i dont know what that is sorry im not to smart like that

  18. the albinos are nice can i ask can you see cinnamon on them or have i got cinnamon on the brain and even if they do their nice for your first babys and can still work with them they have lovley faces mate your hen i like better as she has that show pride and nice directional feathering on her head around eyes put her to a nice long grey /albino with bit of shoulder and height in his feather above head you will get some nice albino hens and cocks but if shes cin you want to cull the split cocks out thats if shes cinnamon and just keep the hens they wont be cinnamon albinos provided your grey / ino cock is not also /cin
