Thank you Daryl for that very information reply. Now that the reasoning behind the idea has been explained to me I can most definately see with more clarity than I had before. So with this new found knowledge I must say I agree with the reasoning and find arguments in favour of this proposal sound. i say just imadgine how cool it would have been for shannon bird breeder to have his beautiful lacewing shown it sat in the back room with the others for a young up and comming breeder that right their would have really incoraged him to a lot more extent than to just get a bird in the team not only could he have been their due to it being in his state he could have asked what the judges though to help him improve his birds they point system does work in our sheild events and i do think its a silly thing three birds going at least if your bird goes and is put at risk (as in they all just stuck in togetter ) its may worth your while a tad i know im not sure i want to ever put a bird into sheild selection(for chance at nats ) as the risk of the bird comming back either so stressed it dies or just not comming back at all due to it did die illness ,fights ,stress what ever to me is not apelling at all just to get a sash and a tag to my name so i will always have better birds at home when it comes to the sheilds given these risks

A Baby Is Hatching
Thank you RJT. 2 of the 3 albinos/lacewings have faint throat spots. looks a bit cinnamon. the photos don't really show it because the sun was too bright. mum might mask cinnamon? she has some faint markings too and has a blue sheen. yes i understand this and if they boy turn out anygood they still could fit ino you plan however i do know this was a kind of test run so yeah /lacewing albinos can bite your butt latter in your stud so may be best to cull out great for pet breeding though you may want one for that as for mum she is nothing spec you are right but foster mums are always handy when you have show stock think about that shes a great little mum

I dunno GB if the ring code is such a give-away. I have stewarded on numerous occassions and not once have I seen a judge look at a bird's ring. On the contrary if there is a question about the bird's owner then the judge asks that the Show Secretary check the records via the show cage number. I cant read the rings on my own birds without my reading glasses let alone see whose bird it is when I am judging I know all the National Judges and a more decent bunch of people I have never met. To be honest amongst the National Judges Panel are the keenest budgie breeders of them all. Actually to see Jim Fletcher win with a super bird is just wonderful. By the way Karen I love the emoticons on this Forum :grbud: mabe i was taken wrong or said what i ment wrong what i ment is if someone is worryed he or she is been miss judged mabe they should ring their bird with uncoded i didnt mean to make it sound like the judges are dodge im sure they have no reason to be their is so many outstanding birds these days i only mentioned it as someone told me that its ridiculous i did then tend to agree but when you say it like you do jeff yes i cant even read my birds codes so mm i suppose it was a dumb thing to believe but then i am very gullible and believe people untill i know them to be either full of it or wrong all in all it must be such a hard decision to be a judge on the day let alone one at the nats im yet to meet one i think is descriminative to any person i know or have seen or judged a bird unfairly i quiet often ask judges what the moved a bird up or down the line for and always i have seen and understood why

Hi Heathrow, I find your comment interesting as I too dont believe that increasing the perch size will make the birds grip better. Personally I think a smaller perch would make them grip better, If you put a tree branch in your aviary the birds will all want to be on the end where the branch is at its smallest. As you say time will tell . Maybe hang onto the old perches just in case we revert back. Thank you Matt - finally someone agrees with me. I would like to see perch go smaller eg 9mm. Smaller perch sizes seem to make the birds more alert on the perch, larger perch make for lazy birds that sit across the perch. GB - The reason the 3 toes forward is an issue is for Judging is - to DQ a bird you need to be certain that it is a permanent condition. What makes it more contentious for a bird to be DQ at the Nationals is the number of preselction stages a bird has to go through. ie club selection, state selection & national preparation. I think if Henry George was certain his bird had 3 toes forward on a permanent basis he wouldnt not have benched it. well all i can say is that mabe it did have three toes out in all its judging but they just thought what you said oh well henry wouldnt bench a bird with three toes forward im sorry but i still think that birds doget picked faults or not on the hope that people think like you justsaid that the credibility of the breeder being a known breeder wouldnt bench such a fault but thats where your wrong they do .. so i think considering they said they moved the bird around and swung the cage and stuff to see if the toes would fix with the bird reperching the right decishion was made how ever if macka is correct about a judges bird being dq from show second time in a row at nats mabe things need to be looked at personally that is where it pays to have uncoded rings for some your best birds as coded ring is basiclly same as a marked cage in my veiw o really its kind of silly they go on about marked cages so much cause the judge can just turn the ring with his stick if he reallywants to know whos bird hes judging i still think the rulze is the rule three toes forward out i have never seen any of my birds sit with three toes forward brought or breed

Who Said Sheep Were Dumb?
here is some pics my animal family first my rescue cocky she is just 8 months old my dad found her starving and covered in black oil she was that dirty dad didnt see her untill he went to drive off from the petrol station and she slowly dragged herself toward the road he stopped to see what it was moving so slowly in such a odd way only to find dear little gabby we think someone stole her from a nest then dumpped her when they relized what they got them selfs in for she was still swaying back and forward going arrr ar ar when hungry and missing most her feathers still growing in down we think she was mabe only around three months old then theirs travis my sunconure a impalse buy when pet shop was sick of himscreamming all the time i made them an offer and they were happy to take it just to get him gone both travis and 99 (gabby ) both talk fluently and full sentances its quiet funny sometimes they carry on chatting to eachother like little old women this is my duck pond it was my turtle pond but i feel i wont be seeing turtley turtle again for sometime if at all sadly thoughs pictures were yesterday however i had a probblem with my drake trying to steel all the women and push my new little piggmy duck aside so i made some changes yesterday avo and finished them tonight so i still need to fix some stuff like new fencing i am going to have to make new fences with smaller holes between the pails so pigmys dont get out and im making a new duck area for my bigger ducks here is max this is an extention of the duck/rabbit/dog run this is down their looking back toward the main yard again but from the tree you can see halfway down and still looking back toward main pen a bit closser and beds almost to main pen looking acrossed to main pen from my portch area and the off set pen on the left through the gate and down along the house ican see the ducks and rabbit while doing dishes if their in their and while doing laundry if their in main pen and acrrossed from corner looking toward house theirs another dry area for them yes my frame i made for my aviry im now useing for ducks :hap: max i havent forgotten pics of ducks just ran out of room showing you their home theirs more pics of max also

Splayed Legs
Sorry no photos, i didn't buy her. A breeder at a bird expo/show told me she would be fine to breed. He was a member of a budgie club, he should know better. :hap: I hear that all too often. I say "I want to breed violets", someone gives me a grey and says "it had a violet parent, it should throw you a violet or two". Why? Because some breeders will tell you what you want to her to sell you what they want to get rid of. I have had this happen to me for the last 2 years and I think its small wonder we are losing so many opportunities to bring in new members or keep them in the hobby. Fortunately I have stayed with it because I love breeding, but im much much more picky these days... If it wasn't for this forum i wouldn't have even known what a splayed leg was. I am becoming more cautious. I didn't realise some breeders were so dodgy. alot of breeders are dodge even some members of your own club can be dodge you need to assess the birds yourself i found and if it is not up to all the check list dont buy it no matter how cheep how good the bloodline is and if you want a certain colour enhance in the bird like violet then you need to see either papers with colour and varierty of mum n dad or you need to be able to recognize a bird with this modifier you can see it a bird breed from a violet wont give you violet unless it carrys violet genetics and not all the chicks get the gene in saying this also their are some fantastic breeders whom go out of their way to make sure your getting a good bird and exactly what you want i know i always say if the bird does no good let me know we will fix the situation be it pet or breeder their are cases where its your choise though and all info about bird is given its then your choise i know i have brought birds the breeders told me are infirtile or not good bird for one reason or enother i sometimes chance it at my risk and more so than not the birds been fine you need to judge the birds inviroment compaired to your own and its general condition if its fixable then sometimes its worth a try theirs lines drawn though and a splade leg bird is not one i would buy to bred with

Extensive Judges comments now displayed on a class by class basis on the Live Feed site. The DQ birds had 3 toes forward on a permanent basis. That is when the bird is given the opportunity to move from perch to perch they still display this feature. The photo of the winning grey alos shows this. I guess it wasnt a permanent feature. This tends to affect the larger birds. The new larger perches should fix this issue. We really dont want to be disaulifying birds. I will state my vested interest. We were 2nd in the Greys and had a Pied DQ last year. However, hopefully the issue will sort itself out. I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall at the National Judges meeting today as the brds DQ belonged to National judges. Welcome to the Forum Jeff, I look forward to your contribution and Congratulations on your success at the Nationals, the Grey cock looks to be a lovely bird. The 3 toes forward is an issue for Judges, i would be extremely reluctant to DQ a bird for this when I'm Judging. I'm not 100% certain the changing of perch sizes will make a difference, but time will tell. having three toes forward is a normal disqualification i dont see how it can be hard to disqualify against this it is the rule after all besides were breeding to perfect arnt we ??? i think its good they stick to protocol and i think they need to stick to it more where variety is concerned eg markings flecking extra suffusion
