Dying Budgies!
as kaz said you have a probblem this probblem needs a vet we can not avise you anymore in my opinion as we could just advice you to treat something its not i would be taking at least half your birds out of both cages and takeing them for tests the money will be worth it you will continue to lose them all if you do not and if you just randomly medicate them before you visit vet you will chance covering up what they may have it will cost you just as much if not more to replace your birds as it will to get tested and savethe ones you have but one or two birds wont cut it you need to take at least 8 to 10

Grey Opaline Hen X ?
okay so with much descution with various people it has been decided that this cock is infact a combination pied thats a rec pied domanint pied all on the one bird no splits but for opaline he has dominant pied markings but is in actual fact a rec pied bird his eyes are plumb and he gives off dom chicks in single factor so is single factor dom pied ,rec pied and as hes rec pied all chicks will be / rec pied weather they are dom pied or not so this is how i can find out if this what has been for now decided is true

it can only get better darl as you know what you want you have aimed for it and stayed on track i for one know that i will always be looking for a out cross or two from you for toughs very reasons but in saying this think i will have no hope as were looking at same thing in our birds :) but when im their at the same place you are at least we will have each-other to help out if need be im sure the hens here will be sending a relative back to you in time with maybe just the blood you need to keep your violet line especially going in the right direction in your stud after all my splat hen she is my best hen and i feel i at least can give you something back in time i have big plan for her

Splats Breeding Season To Date
I really don't know who to put him to because he is an outcross, but I don't want to put him with that hen again because I got all cinnamon. You will have to help me pick Clearwing. PLUS the hen is heavily flecked and he has a bit of flecking , maybe I shouldn't of paired them together as I have enforced the flecking becaue I have notice the 2 cinn opalines are going to be flecked too. I think. So need to picture a hen that is not flecked, what about one of yours that you loaned me a a couple of weeks ago. I could pair him to one of them and have some outcrosses next year. What do you think. Or should I put him with one of the yellow Df spangle hens BUT then those 2 hens need to come back into my line this year becaus ethey have been outcrossed twice already.Cheers Julie Hi GB yes , that is my plan. From experience some of my birds blossom late. you have one of them . So I am going to wait and see how they turn out this time im very glad to hear this just remember where to send your culls when you have decided oh boy im a crack up

Dying Budgies!
hello i was reading and i think the first thing you need to do is work out whats dieing most babys or adults ?? if its both then i say you need to keep birds where they are and get another cage to move birds into for extra space and if only the adults are being efected you dont want to get the babys sick so just get more cages going to the vetis best and the only real way to work out whats going on make sure they are avian though or you may come home with no awnsers dont just take sick ones take as many as vet will let you for one consaltation and get them crop and poo cheaked for cocci and canker and megga ask him to cheak them for feather might and if he could please tell you if they have any respertory probs if you tell him you want to know a good plan for illness prevention he will or she will give you all advice needed mabe get some probiotics into them to help pick them up a bit but dont medicate before you see vet as will possably hide any illness they may be harborring oh just saw kaz post what she said also good luck

6 New Chicks
thank you i wasnt going to breed for lacewings anymore but their as been to many things pushing me back in this direction so might just have to keep them regardless on looks as their lines are useful and will do me good in near future well i couldnt find my post about my aviry so i thought id just post pics here rather than do another topic in fact i think shannon has the idea and may just do one big ME thread with all my questions and problems and breeding rezults aviry the lot but for now i will just post my aviry reno on here so i have been linning it to stop condensation and i have altered it also to prevent draft yet keep air flow take look how its going i covered half the frount still keeping sides open but with doors walls are getting fully lined with untreated pine and have instilation under them back wall still getting done roof still to be done but getting their v e r y s l o w l y

Jetrick's Breeding Journal
my bad well regardless of his quality of markings hes a nice boy and will be very handy just young so plenty of improving time two if he was mine id put him to a nicely feathered grey normal hen (opaline either )(they say opalines better ) one who as lift above her head and a long mask dont worry about spots size and stuff just worry about carriage and self presentation as this way your just trying to bred / splits from him and any hens well they will be albino so spots wont matter the nicer the hen you put him with the better the start you will have with your albinos hes a nice boy as in all over birds (the thing i love about albinos is so long as your birds a good alover bird then you can keep it for your albino line if its colour is c r a p or spots not very good markings what not i love that less waste

I Think My Budgie Has Megabacteria
i agree also guessing illness is always a bad move if its not what you think you can make birds worse and if you think about it going to vet cost no more than replacing a bird thats died and you get to keep that one you love but chances are you can save more than one bird by knowing whats wrong

Working Holiday In South Australia
I so agree with what you are saying. This issue is AUSTRALIA WIDE !!!!!! I have had to resort to buying my outcrosses and ongoing breeding stock from interstate auctions and interstate breeders for quite some time now. Breeders that once sold me birds now wont as my birds begin to beat these open breeders on the show bench. Even waving a huge amount of cash ( $500 upwards ) under their noses will not let you get one good bird and you get shown the sh*tty cull cage......the "dregs". And these are the very breeders who criticise you when you buy from interstate. All I get offered are birds with issues, hens who scalp their chicks, birds with cysts, feather issues, health issues, lame birds etc. I have taken to taking photos of my birds with me on the camera to show them why I dont need those problems and why I need just one good bird, one outcross etc. At National selections we wonder why we are low in numbers of birds offered to be selected. A great many breeders have fantastic birds and arent even putting them up for selections anymore too. There is a general feeling of apathy and lack of motivation. There is grumbling behind scenes and in the ranks. There is far too many saying they have been ripped of or sold dodgy or sick birds by the upper levels of breeders who should know better. It seems to be that every single one of us us GOING IT ALONE with little to no support and little to no UNITY as a group. No wonder so many fall by the wayside and give up. There seems to be less accountability for rubbish birds sold as "good birds" to the newbies. I am hearing all the time of birds even sold for $1000 plus that fall off the perch in far too short a time and no offer of a replacement bird. What happened to conscience and good faith and doing the right thing by others. And then of course our best birds are going interstate to fill auctions......the mighty dollar is a drawcard for that. What gets left behind in the state for others to buy and work with ? Not a lot considering the breeder wont sell to you once you show you know what you are doing with your birds and breeding and have gone up a level. If they arent meeting the demand for interstate auctions because of the invitations to submit birds, they are sending them away to be sold so that local breeders cant get a hold of them and do something good with the bird. A fear of someone beating you on the bench with your own bloodlines that someone may have improved by the right outcross or good pairings. I have heard from TOP breeders here that no other breeder will sell them a bird too. Even they feel it................some have walked off laughing when others have asked to buy a bird. All I can say is, if this continues, with us all having to go it alone with no community spirit of assistance and helping fellow club members move forward, there will be no progression and things will die a death, members will leave the hobby disheartened and the only ones doing it and well will be the ones with $$$$$$$$$$$$$'s. this is majority rule i know however i think hear in vic we to have many that will help and many that hinder its really just a judgment of who you meet and whom you trust as i said i have for one been lucky and have met some lovely helpful people ive met my fair share of hard nosed cold unhelpful people also along with the ill help you GO BACKWARDS type myself im happy to just help anyone i can i introduce myself to everyone i meet big named small named and weather they help me or not is their decision but i take in all they say and ponder it as sometimes people help you maybe its not with birds but knowledge

Working Holiday In South Australia
well at first when i entered hobby i was getting no help with good birds and spent 600 on 5 **** (compaired to what others had ) birds so i flew some in from wa with help of this forum when i did that people wernt very imprest i was told so i said if i cant get help ill help myself i was prepaired to bring birds in when ever needed just happens im very lucky and have since been given loads of great help and advice took a while 1 whole year and a few not half bad birds to take to club showing my birds have all been under 20 or 50 at most since these first 6 brought i told myself never again was i paying more than fifty till i can breed a better quality bird myself and understand bird s features and pairings i was going to go to our clubs auction but have decided not to to just stay home what i dont see i cant want then breed what i have and hunt down a few birds at latter date even if it means bringing them in from wa again as honestly i can wait im in no rush the longer it takes to get good birds the more i can learn with my best of the best of the worst you can get plus the few gifted birds im very very grateful for to get me off the ground that in my veiw are quiet nice and will be very useful to me all i can say is stick it out its hard here also but i guess our older breeders relize the hobby will diminish if they dont help and teach us i for one apreshiate everyone whoms helped me out her in vic and out of state and over seas

Radical Changes
i totally agree with you clearwing we need to work on bringing back variarty and feather can just balance that latter their is many nice birds that miss out just as the feather is not as buff or the direction is slightly lacking it really gets my goat when a crappy marked bird wins over one who you can see has been breed well not just a fluke because its feather type if that makes sense

I only decided to go and have a look myself last night...it was interesting to see the YF, but otherwise a waste of time...in my opinion....way too expensive. I am only a beginner, but I think, yes...many of the birds were very average. The two cheapest ones were $70 and $80. An Albino hen went for $80...but I think she had visible throat spots and average size...but hard to tell because the light in the hall was no good. Not many birds under $300.Do you think the YF that won the Nationals was a Yellowface Mutation 2 Single Factor? must admit i wasnt to interested in it so never really looked at him even at the preston show my bad i was more interested in the albinos and the lacewings clearbodys and doms ive seen many beautiful yf birds he was one but ive seen others
