  6. the offer is from enjoyment to see you achieve amy take it hun kaz would not of offered if she wanted a fee she would have said if money was expected im also giver and have had to learn to recive also in this game theirs plenty of opitunity to give thanks in future i still ticking off my thank you list but half way their from thoughs whom have helped me more than i felt compatible with but i learn t the joy you feel when you give to others well you some times need to let others feel this joy so thats what i was told anyway that it was actually greedy of me to never let others give to me as they never got to feel the enjoyment of helping or giving so take it and enjoy your time to give back one day you will find perfect way to say thank you im sure of that as i always do even if its years latter
  7. sadly this sort of thing happens more often than you think ive heard all sorts storys from many different breeders of birds despairing ., being taken from nests and even eggs going missing personally just the nasty comments about breeders i hear all the time at shows disgusts me these people that should be able to be proud of making it to a place of recognition having to start over from scratch because of jealous people out to destroy their progression either by tainting their name or worse as with this poor chap lucky theirs also the good who will go out of way to help him obtain quality birds again im sure. it wont replace what he lost but the generosity should build his hopes again you can never hold a good pird person down no matter what happens they come back usually twice as quick and good
  8. dean i can emphasize with you my first season of proper show birds was a nightmare not only died birds but dead hens in breeding cages dead chicks dead eggs dis and young fledglings have fm but the ones that lived one broke its neck my best hen then two more lived to 6 months and died from pneumonia their father was killed my best hens mother died and now my best new breed hen sister to my beautiful dom pied hen is unwell with no real answer possible stroke and so far i have out of all birds breed and lived maybe two actual quality birds left so yes its tough why *** knows but stick to it i bet we will gain great results and a world of knowledge latter heres to your birds being supper brilliant when things fall into place
  9. Thanks Splat I will give her a go tomorrow with a 5 day old chick. The 5 day old chick is now happy with full crop in foster parents nest. I put him in at 8am, checked at 12pm and he had a full crop and then checked again 3.45pm, still good. Thank you again Splat for your advice Ps. Should I take out all the clear eggs now? Or leave them in because I plan on giving her another chick or two. well how old will the chicks you put in be ?? if they will be new born leave eggs your planing to replace but take rest if planing on moving older chicks out and leaving new borns in as they hatch then take eggs away i would move in the first three oldest and leave new chicks with mum
  10. well apart from the foot lacking grip and her listlessness shes normal i know that sounds like a contradiction but i dont know how else to put it and thanks all
  11. okay a little update as i dont have a clue whats going on yet i do know shes not right she is inside in the landry its not cold but not overly different from outside flight i was tossing up on weather to put her on to oxy b a antibiotic but then when i saw her eatting again relized her foot was stratng to stiffen to paralise i also noticed yesterday her wing was dropped just a minor bit compared to normal she seemed to be breathing slightly deeper to suggesting she was in some pain as eyes were closing with a little nod every so often i rang a few breeders and splat it was suggested to me that she could be having a heart attach or stroke but im not sure this is case with her shes just starting to have issues with balance and her foot grip so i decided that before i go medicating to much and lowering her immune i will give her a dose of calcium mixed with glucose straight down her beak so thats what i did as i have not been able to find anybody with calcivet close by and im dead broke due to vet bills just payed for my dog that is now deceased i crushed up half a tablet of my castrate and liquafided this added the glucose and feed her a shot ill let you know if any improvement i also put in some salt n minerals a cuttle bone a carrot seed and millit as she is defendantly not sick just not right ,..she has just finished her 6 month molt which did take a lot from her and maybe calcium n mineral deficiency im thinking as was licked out of nest at 4 weeks had a bad cold for a bout a month i never had anything bar pvm and veggies cuttle bone and blocks available to her as chick but not all birds eat these things so its worth the try i will give her more before bed and morn n night till Monday see what happens if worsens or other symptoms show i will straight put her onto oxyb then as its a pretty quick working effective antibacterial drug and only other thing i can think of is fungal in lungs ...

  17. HI ALL I WAS READING SOME THINGS AND GOT WONDERING WHY HAVE I HAD A LOT OF DEAD IN SHELL I CHANGED MY BOXES AND MADE IT BETTER FOR MY BU=IRDS ....OR DID I ..? HERE IS A QUOTE FROM A PEAICE WRITTEN BY CYRIL RODGERS The right kind of nest-boxes must, and do, play an important part in the success of the breeding season. I like to see next-boxes made of thick clean timber and fitted with good, deep loose concave bottoms. I have seen many nest bottoms that are far too shallow and, consequently, the eggs become chilled and fail to hatch. When this happens the hens are generally blamed for being bad parents, whereas it is actually the fault of their owner. Nest-boxes made of stout wood will also help to prevent eggs from getting too dry and causing dead-in-shell. The entrance holes should not be made too large as the hen birds seem to prefer to be able to squeeze through the holes into their boxes. SO AFTER READING THIS I THOUGHT WELL MY NEW BOXES MAY JUST BE MY PROBBLEM SO I HAVE GONE BACK TO MY OLD ONES TO SEE IF THEIR IS ANY CHANGE AS I HAD MASSIVE SUCCESS WHY DID I CHANGE THEN WELL TO CATER FOR THE BIGGER BIRDS HOWEVER I THINK IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCES BAR MORE ROOM MORE CHILL FACTOR WHAT ARE OTHERS THOUGHTS ON THIS
  18. I am mixing up some food now, I am going out in a 10 minutes though. I didnt want the chick to die in my hands like last time, I was mixing the food and the chicks just drifted off. That had nothing to do with you, the last chick dying in your hands. BUT if you dont feed this one before putting it under the other hen it will be dead by morning. kaz is right it will last till morn even if she doesnt fed it if you do it before placeing in box then she will keep it warm then if in morn its not fed (u will need to get up at 6am and cheak ) have food ready to just grab chick out and fed then place under her again while you at school she will keep it warm you can keep topping chick up till she starts to feed her self but she should feed it id she has her own chicks but maybe not toill morning when all calling to be fed good luck
  19. lol yes n thanks mate ill let matt have his thread back now
  20. Just off the top of my head without checking records, around 9 chicks hatched, 4 of which hatched weak after having to battle dry membranes + the mishap = 4 live chicks at the conclusion of all possible hatches. 37 eggs, 4 chicks. Usually it would be the other way around for me -> 37 eggs, 4 DEAD (33 alive and fledge). Go the 'better' quality birds splats right most breeders have had it hard this year from what word says that spins around but then that is just word but i myself just had one whole nest of dead in shell one hatched so like you i never experianced the disapointments i have this year but i also have been blessed with nice chicks and compared to my almost 150 chicks culled i have had less but culled only few chicks last year i kept 3 birds out of 150 this year i have to cull my stock birds to keep my young
