  11. i did mix mine but i now only give small parrot mix in separate dish and only in winter
  12. have you considered tail rot it looks very simular to fm but the tail when pulled out of cuticle bit is black and blood rather than dry blood in feathers the feathers dont normally grow back with feather rote if they do they are twisted and smaller never grow fully back im not sure what causes it sorry but i know many over look it as is so close to fm
  13. hi lion that bird is unwell as kaz says its hunched like a belly ache try separating him and giving a bit of raspberry cordial and a few drops of lemon juice in water seed only apart from that bring him inside where its warm or in a shed covered with a towel at night keep eye on its droppings for colour change they should be round solid dark with good white spot if not report back what they are like if for a week of the cordial and juice he seems still bad i suggest vet that way you will know if you need to treat others for something he may be carrying when you get different birds even from same breeder but at different times each lot should be quarantined away from the other lots good luck but he is sick your cobalt is just cobalt nice hen to

welcome also great name so i hope it is a boy just for that i say every chance you get take your bub out and snuggle holding him /her infrount of you on your finger and patting the whole body down to tip tail then head tip tail so on hold close to open door of cage when doing so if wants to return can every time he.she goes back in say good baby go to bed this wat it will start to learn bed with hoping into cage and will do it on command as gets older when brought to door of cage ps more you handle better bird you will have treat it firm but lovingly if flys off walk up to and collect picking up with full hand and placing back on your finger talking the whole time keeps hem interested in you not exploring
  16. you must take out the soft flooring he needs to use his foot to fix it normal cage no special treatment my birds that break legs get splint put on, one days in holding cage rest then its back to flight two weeks splint comes off four weeks birds using foot light ly 2 months fixed thats broken so a sprain give it a month to fully heal but it wont heal unless he can use it remove the flooring to wire bottom he needs to use foot to fix foot good luck
  17. if your to busy to snap a few pics you can be guaranteed you'll be to busy to care for chicks in nest and all that goes with breeding even one pair so i think ill just leave my comments out of this thread from now on good luck and maybe just remember its not often birds will breed inside they are like gold fish in that way other fish will breed indoors but not gold fish they need the direct moon light budgies well they need to feel the environments right in which yours must not be i personally think its their window view your fairly high up must have loads of noise around their also or none at all being that height either is not good birds wont breed needs to be a consent familiar noise level good luck with it they are well kepts that i can see
  18. well i know my post was long but if you did read it pops i too had free birds so i know the joys you refer to when talking of sitting out in garden to enjoy them im not totally for what you have done but its no different to what i did as a child only i did close my flight to their freedom but it was mainly due to peoples interference and them thinking they were helping me get my birds back the book i read about homing birds as pets stated budgies have a territorial area of 500 k surrounds and thats the only reason i tryed it as thats not really that far if you think about it now im older im positive its a croc of you know what i do not think i would ever say i told you so but i also would not say populating the area with budgies is a good idea either you say you will relocate chicks but to be honest if your so into them being free i dont see that happening however i do hope you are able to maintain their health and where their is seed their will be your budgies free as can be until day they pass as so long as you feed them and they have a nest hollow their they will stay that much i do know so good luck and i do hope you do just stick to the two flying free not add chicks to the picture i do hope you do re-home(the chicks ) them so as the population of birds does not keep growing wild budgies will mate at 4 weeks old their like flying rabbits to be honest and im not to sure the young would stick around like mum in dad time i guess will tell and please do stay around you actually crack me up i love your honest words even if i dont totally agree with your actions i totally understand them
  19. take the two birds in show cages with you to sale if its your clubs ask a member help you choose a quality partner for each bird but dont forget what your other birds need to help them as no point buying birds just to suit one partner needs to beable to improve all your hens if a cock and or bring something to all your cocks if a hen
  20. if birds have had nest since young they may not see it as a place to breed try taking them away for two months and do not put in with the birds under one year old its not fair on them or the chicks okay so this is not the set up now ??? as you have moved can you take a new up dated picture please looking at old ones does not help we need to see exactly whats happening to help or we are wasting our and your time
  21. okay mate im going to sugest something totally off bat here but i think it may work seems to me your birds don't benefit from sun anyhow so do you have a room they can be placed in total darkness bar a uv light (you would need to buy but one tube is around 40.00 you just plug it in and hang it also try hanging breeding box inside the cage or even sit it on floor of cage if you think you could access viewing better their bird that wants to breed wont care where the box is so long as its their for her make sure you give calcium in form of calcivet liquord to fix lack of sun and breeders solivet d for vit d as your birds would not get vit d through the windows so need it try turning lights on from 600am till 930 at night then pitch black till next morning 6am so on place a small radio in room thats turned on contently softly but so you can hear it this why birds will have a content familiar sound around them at all times even at night just make sure its low leavel listening so as they can sleep still undisturbed also no bird under one year should be in a cabinet with nest box (but i think you know that ) also wheres their seed i know if i was going to rase a family i would want to make sure i had enough food at all times to be-able to feed them so i suggest a take away tub filled with seed dayly so they feel that food supply is sufficient if you are unable to try this let me know and ill try come up with another option ps your birds looked very healthy good job
  22. that cinnamon hen is a stunner great buy all your hens should look like her shes got good show quality's get her a really nice big broard boy with lots of head qualitys to really bring her out make sure if nothing he is big as in long and has big as you can get spots and a long mask direction across his cere and forward push the grey cock bird is nice but dont be tempted to put him with her though (the cin grey hen) although im positive you will get some ripper bubbys from him put him to a hen with loose feather and sit back and see your messy hen produce some rip snorters with him hes a very handy bird to have nice dense feather good spots be sure his hen has length in her mask and forward push to get best out of him i myself would put your grey green cock bird to the light green hen she is as long as him but with the top he is missing both have decent masks with nice rounded spots his is tad longer which is good her mask is bit more fuller also good she has good feather behind head and direction on above the cere although she has not much push but all the right characteristics to go with him well hes got feather above head although he does pull back he could just be doing this in picture she is tad short or cut off i say under perch hes got the length below she misses you could put grey with her as hes got nice broad head in-which the grey green does not posses or does the light green hen so in pairing them could result in thin headed birds even though your got all other areas good me id put wighth of head in after i fixed other areas but thats me great starting birds all have good quality necessary to start with
  23. hello Hans firstly you have some very beautiful birds their secondly can i ask how do you know their age did you breed them yourself reason i ask is that the violet spangle hen looks to be quiet young still 6 months maybe and the grey or mauve cock also secondly i did not see any breeding set up their just cages with birds-and some with more than two birds ?? also the bird flying loose its split rec pied but not only that (just thought id tell u that ) whats it doing loose? its disturbing all the other birds can you take a picture or video (photos are better ) of your whole breeding cage set ups and the birds your trying to breed and post id like to help you but i need to know following how you know age of birds where you got birds where do you plan to breed them (inside ??/outside ?? ) and does that bird always go about flying everywhere around the others ? how long you been trying to breed them now what do you nests look like
  24. well personally i think this thread should of been explained as a not to do thing but pops would of still done this regardless of othrs opinions so at lease we can see the out come pops is lucky this time so far but luck usually runs out for the birds with in 6months i think breeding out of captivity is silly as not only as both above members stated illness can spread over millions of bird types but budgies reproduce repetitively and if they decided to fly off and nest make their own little flock well how do you think all other pests were brought into other country's its all just a bit silly housing them in a large flight just the two of them would be more sensible mind you i had homing budgies as a kid so...........and for around 8 months only everyone kept returning them saying that they got my budgie back someone must let them out as their was a small flock of them and not to mention i lived in country and hawks were common as were crows so on i ended up keeping them locked up in end birds felt safer you could tell infact they never tryed to get out even if i left door open so must have relized getting chassed all day by birds and people was no fun so as you can see i made the big mistake of not knowing about illness and how easy they spread it just guess i can thank my lucky stars the birds were not sick or did they get sick however its not recommended with any animal even wild animals we rescue need rehabilitating into their habitat again and not all can be due to their lack of fear of people and other animals such as dogs and cats they no longer fear which would be their death when set back free pops did something believing it was good for all but realistically all its good for is him to watch the pretty birds fly free its not something to try prove that its possible as its very possible to tame birds to fly free and come back as i said i did it and i did it as i had a book how to do it so was not my idea but a written one as a child i though how cool would it be its a very bad idea and one no one should do pops you will be the death of these birds even if its years to come they will never live to their full capability of 16 or so gb and when i wrote this i thought the bird was wild to start
