  4. :reading:  yes they can eat this you need to just recognize what spices they cant eat but most cooked vegies are welcomed and chicken must be cooked i give mine mash with nut meg as nut meg is a happy thing just a sprinkle though as it can send them wild lol
  5. i hand tame all time their is no reason you need to take away from nest at all i handle my babys from 2 weeks on i bring the box inside for 10 minits every day and hold the babys this does not effect mum as they just think im changing bedding then as the chicks feather up at 3 weeks i bring just the chick i want inside for up to half hour then working myself to 1 hour after 4 weeks the chick is only returned to be feed with mum every two hours and then at5 weeks the baby is use to me so much it isnt bothered by me handling it in the cage where it stays with mum and dad to be feed until its coming out nest and eating its self then when i know its eating its self i bring it straight inside no cage and just sit it on my shoulder all day at night its caged and if i go out for safety if the bird trys to fly off i simply just talk to it softly and continuously pat it on the occasion they do fly i simply get him or her and return to me if it wont sit on shoulder i place on my knee but genrally the dont try fly as they just no theirs no point as i will always just return them to me,or their cage if it becomes anoying then after ten minits i get it back out they soon learn if i want them to sit in a certain place i just put them their and every time they move i put them back its all about percistance and them trusting you never chase your bird to catch it simply walk up and keep talking when you are really close simply place finger under it and bring it down to your chest where you can then clasp gently in your other hand give a little chat to then place back where you want few days is all it takes of full on intence time
  6. is it possible somethings frighting them at night i know birds do just drop but thats odd ????? i would be installing cameras i have cameras
  7. so sorry to hear
  8. yours could be carrying violet kaz i know i know why does every bird on here have to refer back to violet in one way or another but thoughs patches pretty violet by way thats a joke ....
  9. I have a greygreen hen who is only young but she seems determined to eat her eggs (in all fairness, she loves the nestbox, layed one egg off a perch, and has layed on egg in the nestbox, that i know of - and ate that one). I was thinking that I might give her some fake eggs to sit on, try to eat, realise that she cannot eat them, and then hopefully she will not try to eat the new ones. Thoughts? well i gave my albino hen a white marble after she ate her first egg it worked i left it in their the whole clutch
  10. that last one is dom or rec bit longer yet and think kaz is right few more days we can tell for sure mum must be split rec their is other option but i got to go so later
  11. no mate dates not mixed up seems my hens decided to wait about 4 egg to sit properly which isn't that uncommon or the weather being as cold as it was the eggs took extra time to develop after all cold weather retards the growth of chicks so why not the growing time :sadsorry: also don't worry i am going to do my own bird egg management i only asked as i had one clutch that was definitely clear and i had never really seen clear eggs before i got show birds so wondered if i was wrong and maybe the egg color of show birds was different i know that sounds dumb but oh well my pet types never failed to produce full clutches so it was all new to me i now know that getting ten to 11 chicks out of 3 pairs is a good thing for first time mums in show birds
  12. fantastic kaz this is a very well thought out and problem solving sett up and in long run is going to pay for its self in the health and happiness and comptability of your birds
  13. yep and so theirs no way it will get burnt like it possibly could at mine lol i always forget im cooking and by time i smell it its to late :laughter: :laughter:
  14. so i was wrong in all aspects dean your a smarty pants :bliss: here for you :laughter: i should have known the yf bit some breeder of yf im going to be they are good nubbly mabe dean you could give us a few we should start with basic ones for the silly people like me :laughter: and have memory lose its great to try get the brain functioning and we can look back here if we want to try our hand at breeding any of the mutations that have been quizzed on :sadsorry: as a quick and easy reference of what we may get
  15. i reconn sounds good what you say kaz Easter at richos :sadsorry: make sure theirs scolloped spuds and baked colly with origino, rosemary and nutmeg and i will think about it :laughter: birds will love easter anyways by the sounds of it :laughter:
  16. well looks like mum and dad must be split blue as you have a white feathered friend or is it light yellow feathers hard to tell from picture but i also think it is your dec you were after looks cock too next time you take pics take picture of buby with wing out so i can see closer also the to yellow wing ones i want to see them face on and from back of head with neck and top cap if pos i will try help you see what you got im thinking the yellow on the bottom rights looking like it had dark markings comming close to shoulders but as i said i cant tell so hold its little wing out too it may be a dom i think if this the case nd pos yf
  17. i totally agree although i believe males can breed until they basically are not filling eggs or look over the hill if their all workin it id still try em but i wouldn't buy one older than 4 or 5 at most provided i knew he had been breeding well over his years not just been sitting around i think 4 0r 5 is still worth the risk if good bird and good price
  18. mmmmmmmmmmmm yum maybe i will come over for dinner :sadsorry: use my free travel ticket for that will their be roast with that as the budgies love stuffing and chicken carcus :laughter:
  19. thank you :sadsorry: splat not totally dim as i sim :laughter:
  20. no but wash it well mate as all veggies have you tryed cooked pumpkin yet my birds love it and raw but cooked they enjoy more
  21. Thanks GB I know what you are saying and your right, but if I do cull hard and only keep a handful it will be the best I am keeping, for example my violets line are staying along with the DF and spangle line :laughter: which means they all stay. No i will keep the best out of that line.I gave a lot to think about. but if I do cull hard and only keep a handful it will be the best I am keeping, for example my violets line are staying along with the DF and spangle line :laughter: which means they all stay. i do hope you keep going with them all but i will be honest i will be first to put hand up for any you do cull but you know that quiet well enough :sadsorry: i would :bliss: all the way to your house if i have to and id even go for a weekend away after all i have never used toughs free train travel tickets you get every year  but seriously all jokes aside take your time and dont be hasty specially with thoughs spangles they have some the best marks ive seen for a while and your violet spangles to die for :rip:    you will know the right thing just study your books and see what has produced for you well and the lines that you have breed keep the ones that most resemble the foundation stock or the ones that have features you want to better thats what im going to do as i still dont have good foundations for all my stock i will be keeping everything see what it produces then cull back after i place with few hens see the potancy produced from each cock then go from their take a few years but i need to give everything the best chance to prove its potential
  22. personally i would like to see a good picture of mum and dad again and as kaz said cant get spangle with out one spangle and that spot to big to be a rec trate spot and mum must have been mauve or violet not grey to get violets
