  1. lovley birds good going nice pics too look forward to more
  2. i do belive that splits come out with white down but i would be the only one who says that from my breeding i have noticed this and that split cinnamon also are born with plum eyes again i will be told this is not so but i have birds to prove it is true as for the Opaline down on a split male im still just working on if this is so or not as seems some chicks yes and others no ....really only when the bird is breed will you really know but if you think it try it out then you have solid evidance for your self no matter what others or books say again best way to find these things out is like me take note of all your young over time experimenting with different breeds so you can get usto the babys looks in nest from young through to fledged
  3. okay so another pairs chicks have all hatched over the last few days also the mum and dad yf grey hen gifted by kaz  x cf1 sky blue spangle their was five eggs one infertile and one at back dry egg three healthy well fed bubs  hope theirs a yf or two fist hatched on 16th oct 09 second one 17th oct 09 third one on the 19th oct 09 will show as they grow

  5. shannon you have some rip snorters you just need to have a more put in place plan and you will get heaps more from your birds i noted latley you have planned a bit ahead this is what will help you i would have loads of your birds if could
  6. will you be showing birds dave ???
  7. no its great that you did now i can see that i have a way better foot in the door with my birds than i thought (not only the birds i got from you) i have been helped with getting some really good cocks from some( in my opinion) good breeders and my hens all come mainly from the one breeder and they are very reasonable hens considering you have to really breed your own hens to get any decent ones unless your very lucky or pay well enough thats here in vic from my experience, but seriously all good breed birds came from years and years of forming good foundations and good planning , hard culling and back to scratch breedings from what i have seen your posts are fantasticlly set out and you explain so much as you go along with dave kaz lib and daz to name a few id say these posts with the breeding journals really do make for not only learnning but give an understanding to anyone whom may feel they want to get into breeding as they can see the highs the lows the just plain bad luck some of us go through the frustration and the joy when we achive a wanted rezult i say jolly good show to you all and keep up the good and interesting and threads thanks to all the people that put in and comunicate with hummor and spunk it really does make for some good reading ,....gb
  8. mine looked more greywing than yours kaz and she is not  just pulling ya
  9. Haha I use anything to candle my eggs  That one I was using my mobile phone anything does the job, and if you know the pair you're taking the egg from and know their reactions to touching/handling their eggs/young it's okay to touch the eggs. That's how you get a better look. Many eggs that "look" fertilised from afar aren't when up close, or are DIS/addled libby you should not touch eggs weather or not the birds know you or not as your hands carry germs that penitrate through the shell and can cause dis (dead in shell) also as the hen rotates the eggs the eggs would need to be moved very delicate if you did chose to do it this way as you would need to be very careful to put it back exactly as you found it same side spot all as the rotation of the eggs is most importaint and any miss placed ones the hen may have a patten and if you move the eggs she loses trake also causeing d i s , i use to just hold my eggs up to the sun this also works but reality is desterbance of eggs through touch means more chance of less chicks and macka im one grumpy chick so ...snap , old maid what ever i also say things as is although i do try to refrain on here although i have had my fair share of hidden or deleted posts  thanks kaz
  10. look along the back of the one with the bit of dark on its wings (shoulders) see if you can see dark feather stems along top half of back or bottom turn it over and look under tail for any color mabe coming in
  11. thanks guys not sure about peeking but defenently ready to hatch and tonight it made it at about 7 30 pm another baby will get picture tomorrow to cold to disturb now black eyes mabe a hen i can hope other wize a possible split cock possible only breeding will determine that and my other lacewings eggs due soon tomorrow on wards FINGERS CROSSED  also my albino and split albino have 7 eggs and i am waitting for a suprize as i did not candle them just waiting for out come didnt want to bother her as second round and last time she had two dead in shell one egg was twins , one albino one norm in the one egg but she kept comming off eggs this time she been good first time mum so
  12. well im with you their but she is defenently opaline and im thinking she may be a he and im confused as to this as for a few reasons 1 ) i cabinet breed 2) the hen is norm and dad is norm dom 3) they been paired for 1 month before box goes in 4)if by chance their was some mirical where she was fertile before and (i dont see that happening ) here first mate who she hated was a grey green cinn split blue split lace wing and they were two gether for 2 weeks before she atacked him and i took him out left her for a week then introduced the dom pie cock ??? but she opaline i got new cam today so will take pics tomorrow as i said she opaline you will see (has to be she even if it looks cock )
  13. okay the white one is looking like a dark eyed clear the yellow one with the wing markings is not looking dom to me but then i have a dom in nest with the same tiny amount of markings on wing but its got a prominant spot to define and my hen is not split anything so...has to be dom ,yours how ever could be a rec or a dom i am not going to say which i think till its more feathered up the one with the black on head i think is dark eye clear also ????i am not usto green based birds and am not good at judging them as i can the blue based ones so... kaz should be able to give a better opinion as she has breed all these variatys i belive :nest: sorry i couldnt help more remembering the varigated pied mabe you have few them ??? time will tell best
  14. how long have you been breeding now nubbly ??
  15. ack ack ack ack ack !!!! thats funny they do sound like that oh and listen to them k  personally i would just stick my birds in together i always done it like that but im always their to watch
  16. yes and hes the one i thought was a tad young please the power of fingers crossed works wonders sometimes i so hope its just norm and blue based to boot it is good kaz as i waited till now to breed them all and im getting some good rezults from all my pairs
  17. as im not experienced in greywings im going to say...... take the others advice ,but i still say she is just a normal dark wing spangle not greywing however as i said i do not own any greywings anymore i culled all mine if you dont have a greywing just breed half brother to half sister you will still get at leasteone grey wing from that pairing and one is all you need to tell have fun its finding out the mutations that you end up missing when you get into show birds why i still keep pet types as well
  18. thank you splat im quiet please going to check little ones now i will take the cam
  19. just put them in together its the only way to see if they will be friendly although its not often that a young and older bird dont get along good luck
  20. i totally agree with splat on this your rooms great and i move my birds into the open air in summer and dont usually breed them between dec and over jan as too hot although i think i over come that problem last year with a mesh door i made so ....we will see well do fantastic job
  21. what do you mean shannon??? as in you dont think i will get another lacewing in the bunch ,im pretty sure i will as the fathers line is pretty good geneticlly in the turms of NEW WORD HERE ......lacewingige and i find that birds breed from strands that have the particular breed solid in their background tend to have more success in breeding that mutation even if only split (im talking sex linkages here ) how ever im not to fazed if it takes me years to breed some good birds as i would prefer to breed them for quality not quantaty besides i have a nother two split lacewing cocks down and a lacewing hen down although i will only get splits from my hen the out come should be good regardless cause any hens from her will be much apreciated and all cocks will be split lacewing its all good
  22. it isnt so little either it was only hatched on the 30th september
