  1. well you can never say that so much can go wrong but im lucky in the sence that i can breed hens by the fact that i have lots of normal hens and split opaline cocks and split albino cocks split lacewing cocks cinnamon cocks so all in all i covered my bases as far as breeding hens goes i think i have at least four out of five hens in my dom clutch but time will tell for certain but one defenent as its opaline so must be hen :bliss: sure my albino is hen also, the one i had to put to sleep was a cock just cause their classed as show doesnt mean i will ever win
  2. all the best with everything kaz  its looking good wont be long now
  3. no its a lacewing pink eyes mate little girl first one hatched i though maybe i would get one but not first hatched that means its posable i could be likely  to get a second lacewing in clutch thanks jlee will be keeping all hens i breed from any show stock no matter what mutation but defenently my lacewings hen a good mum why i decided to let them breed
  4. okay straight to it my first albino (well second technically as first one was gimpy and needed to be euthenased) from my albino cock jg2 o8 bird x albino hen o8 bird few days on ... today ... more pics as it grows  then ... blue-grey normal dom pie x grey normal hen in this breeding i found out dad is split for Opaline(what isnt these days ) 5 chicks all up out of 6ix eggs 4 dom pies and 1 normal chick 1 opaline grey dom notice the spot on her head (for the new breeders ) and the white pin feathers on the half of her wings this is characteristic of a dom pie chick second chick not Opaline but dom pied ,again note the spot on its head and the darkening on half the wing third chick normal grey (the favorite of mum )not the down gone this chick is normal not dom see the head is darker no spot and wings darkness extends all along wing to tip of flights this chick is also from same nest and also dom pied but you can not tell in this picture their is another but i didnt take picture yet of it another dom chick will take more pics as they grow
  5. okay as some of you know i just went into show birds now so far i have been gathering stock like a squeal and just taking time to get the right birds together to start my lacewing line things went pear shaped when firstly i got some birds that didn't fly so i decided against breeding them untill they had some flight time to get strength back if at all then i saw nubbly 5 had some beautiful specimens for sale so i pmed her as quick as i could to arrange the possibility of buying them lucky for me nubbly is a very lovely person and went all out to help me archive flying the birds here to vic its been a few months now and although hes not with the hen i brought for him hes doing a test run with a hen he fell in love with (not the best way to breed show stock i know but ....) so i dont expect for much out come wize in the lacewing area as knowing my luck it will turn out to be spangled but as far as to see his fertility i placed him with a hen that lays 8 to 9 eggs as she did ...9 were layed the last 4 were fostered and now the first chick hatched this morning a lacewing my first ever show breed one the mother was the grey spangle that produced the beautiful feather on my grey opaline chick (dark vader ) so my breeding was more to see what she would produce being put with a bird with......... all that so with out further ado i intriduse to you ms lacewing chick 2009..put your hands together introducing dad introducing mum (when younger )hard to get pics when their in box well i will be taking pics of these chicks growing so watch this space will be more when their feathering as i dont like to anoy the mum im so happy my first lacewing chick,i was like :what: its a lacewing :bliss: for so i could show you all...its only half hour old in these pics now lets hold our fingers its not spangled
  6. well your right technically they are just another blue series bird just people feel like their something special when their classed as violet and when the modifying gene kicks in and makes them appear visually violet well i guess if the shoe fits the only reason the sky violet (which i class as 1 factor violet ) is really needed to be mentioned is if someone is trying to breed violets as you get more visual violets from a 1 factor violet sky bird than you do from a visual violet so thats why if im selling my birds here i mention their full genetic make up modifying gene and all as if others know what they are wanting to breed then makes it easier for them to make a decision through just reading the mutations given they will know that they will be able to breed violets with this information, if they know their genetics
  7. only your not meant to touch them just shine torch through i love how cynical you are macka i think we need to get together for a drink one day  would be quiet amusing i think
  8. okay here is my pet type hen spangle sky violet (sorry macka )Opaline , now i didnt think she was Opaline but the breeding rezults say she is  now i thought she was clear flight pied but as i said earlier she has only given me to chicks both were spangle Opaline one cock one hen dad was split for Opaline hope this helps u identify weather yours is greywing or not and or Opaline mine is normal dark wing spangle Opaline hen im still finding out if she spot spangle or clearflight shes up at moment so i will find out soon and will let you know if you want
  9. their are so many violets in pets i know for fact that all my pets carry violet apart from the skys that i brought to breed with them as i took 3 years to achieve doing this so if i have said this is sky violet then in my case it is true in my pets and im sorry if it anoys i will just say this is a blue series bird for now on
  10. that was great lib i been wondering if you can see their little heart beat in the egg theirs my answer  thanks
  11. okay im home and uploading now
  12. not sure on colour but im sure its spangle the second picture the first picture i think it is green i only ever one green myself so... i did think the spangle was yf2 skyblue but i seem to be told im wrong so often im almost sure my imputs not needed
  13. mum is a normal spangle (possably clearflight pied )pos just spoted spangle (chicks will tell ) i went out to my aviary and took picks of my identical bird colour, spot the works i will post it when i get it uploaded to photo bucket i thought she was clear flighted but she didnt have any clearflighted chicks first round thats not to say that shes not just means the chicks i got wernt they were both opaline spangle though and dad was split so im sure she is opaline (mine i mean ) so you can comepare and tell me what you think if we were playing snap they would be a pair
  14. what do you mean down the line birds macka ?? and to your question i think its because to breed violets at show standard is a lot harder than you think as violet is a colour altering gene and can come out very patchy also because as kaz stated its tricky to distinguish between a sky violet and a good cobalt making it hard to bring in as a class, but being new as you know to showing i cant answer that . really their quiet easy to breed once you have a few but you must have a bird carrying violet genetics to produce violets you cant just put a sky and cobalt and think you will get a violet as it wont happen
  15. not sure on colour but im sure its spangle the second picture the first picture i think it is green i only ever one green myself so...
  16. yeah sorry guys i did state that i could be reading it wrong i was not being a miss smartie pants just wondering if some thing was over looked as i was reading this thread from the start and just the way its layed out i guess i read the wrong birds for wrong pics i am backwards after all this where i got mixed Cobalt normal male with a cobalt dom pied hen. Both recessive pieds. you must admit the rec pied pair the cock i refered to looks very simular as for your chicks cuties
  17. i didnt think she was but she isnt greywing either kaz so.... best she get someone to see in person i think or get a clearer picture out of aviary and with more clarity cause im sticking to not grey wing this is norm vcobalt violet cock bird spangle , pics can deceive big time as you know this a grey wing cobalt blue o and she is Opaline i believe a norml spangled opaline clear flighted pied sky violet hen thats my verdict you know what though the more i look at here she does look like my cinn sky violet opaline hen you could think their sisters i will hunt down a picture
  18. this is what i would breed violet cock then this sky blue hen then i would breed cocks with the hens from each nest while i went hunting for a good sf yf cock or hen ,you only need on and you will end up with yellow face everywhere as like dean said they are more appealing and if you decide to show your got a good start but its up to you what you like best type 1 or two
  19. im sorry but i dont even think the hen looks grey wing just looks normal to me but due to being spangle the dark melenim is lighter around the edge you can see the dark edge on the out certs of wing i am going to be different and say shes normal darkwing bird she is sf violet how ever and if she is provably cinnamon she is definitely cobalt is their anywhere you can get someone to actually veiw here in life if not i say you will have to test breed a half brother sister as honestly to me she is not cinn or greywing but if she was either it would be cinn im saying normal
  20. thats fine theirs lots of early signs you can look for with a baby to tell colour, mutation, sex i dont mind helping if no one had of helped me i would still be asking as you are  ps to any one with the power
  21. do you breed three rounds daz i know lots people do i myself i do it very different to everyone but i get good chick results so and besides im not trying to get to the nats i would be happy just to get to a show lol
  22. yeah and the one in right corner is not dom its rec pied i say having another closer look at picture What are you seeing G_B....when they are so young what do you look for to know if recessive or dominant? Regularity of markings on wings. yes but in terms for a new breeder dark skin spots in small ,patches before feathers the fact it does not have a spot on head size of 5 cent peaice but has dark frontal you will be looking for colour change in feather stem pigment as its feathers come up things like that if you post more pics i will write what im viewing and explain how i come to my decision next time if you like
  23. i could be wrong but this hen here looks to me to be compleate domaniant pied so mabe the prob with this pair is she is to young and you didnt know cause she is not rec pied i know that for certain or im reading what pairs are what wrong and you knew that good luck with next lot and very cute bubys
  24. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. This is the first egg she's actually laid in the nesting box, so I'm pleased! Is there anything else people think I should be doing besides checking on day 5 for fertility, and marking dates of hatching range for those that are on my calendar? Should I line the box with millet/food, for instance? I'm starting to feel like an anxious mother myself. if shes sensitive to laying in box or sitting i would just let her sit i would not check fertility i would wait for the half way point then see whats going on in that aspect
  25. not sure about the vd bit but i do bit of both clean cages till all poo bum gone then after mums poo back to normal i just tip seed contaner in untill the tray fills up i take all veggies and what not out daily but unless water has leeched or split i leave bottom litter in as i feel it gets the birds immunity up eg like a child eating dirt (poo haha thats funny rip true i know but funny ) but i only let it get to the wire so i can still clean tray if needed babys can pick throw to the fill with out probs they learn to eat quicker to this way like with the millet in nest
