My Birds Wont Stop Breeding!
also i would consider at least keeping track of what birds are breed by whom as you will end up with your birds interbreeding big time brother sister of full blood is never recomended but then ive always told anyone whom wants to collany breed that i would start with all unrelated birds and leaving only the hens and selling the cocks as so your stock stays safe from becomming to inter breed and you dont really need to worry about brother sister matings then you will only ever get father daughter grandfather grand daughter so on nothing to worry about their when you need new cocks again bring in new blood

4 Week Old Chick Died
thats the probblem their is no real sighns they could be good then bam you could go look to find chicks sculped or bleeding from cere from being atacked all hens are unprodictable but you can tell sometimes as their like a cranky mother whos had enough of their child telling them to move with the eeeeeeee eeee eeee sounds i wouldnt let her sit id remove eggs layed keep them aside and when chicks are another week old asess her condition and health if shes good and the chicks stay healthy mabe id put all eggs layed under her then if you do this replace eggs with marbles so she goes back to sitting when returned if thats what you choose me id rest her untill summer over unless your somewhere cold

Olive Green Or Violet Green?
further breeding is really the only way you will certainly tell my bird has papers and a fam history so i could be sure he was violet green and breed by a violet breeder however if i was to see him in a shop then i would only of thought him a muddy green violet green is very hard to work out but very useful in breeding strong dark colour into your violets breeding him is really only thing you can do to see his genetic inheritance colour wize or other wize i myself am one day going to breed violet greens but its very difficult to reconize the colour diffrence once you know though its quiet easy i been told but for now i will stick to just my sky violets and visuals im just starting to reconize the df violet and belive me the only way to be positive is to breed it so far ive been wrong twice but it shows me im learning to tell the diffrents in the sheen of aqua green on the skyblues wings which all sky blues have so again very hard to tell diffrents from normal sky blue and a df violet sky blue but im getting ther after 4years politician me .................hu ...not

Totally Different Appearance In Cobalts
hello this is a picture of a muave hen their are all diffrent shades of mauve i find that its quiet easy when the chicks are feathering up to see if their mauve as they look grey to start but with a deep purple almost black cheek patch then when they get to about four weeks you can see the odd very vibrant almost violet feathers on top of the greyish looking ones just near under tail i will find some more for you of chicks if you like oh and as nubbly said two cobalts makes mauves and cobalts your birds must be split rec pied also to achive one so both perants are / rec pied to get a rec chick but defenently has to be mauve birds the sky blue you got was it bright blue or just a lighter to the other cobalts

Olive Green Or Violet Green?
macka thing is with pets you want to be able to know the genetic back ground with also all colour enhancing trates if any as so you can bred for certain colours and mutations it is quiet simple to to know these things if you breed your own stock like show breeders do and keep recolds or weather your bird is what ever eg a violet bred bird or split to rec pied so on remembering most the younger people on here come for the advice of us older ones infact the age does not matter its the experiance we hold that counts as i must say i have learnt some things from alot of the younger people on here in regards to show birds and their breeding be it what to do or what not to do with pet birds i will say this if your looking to breed a certain colour and we will go with violet as thats the colour enhancer every one talks about here as you say then theirs a few simple things to do i belive you should read up on the mutations or colours your wanting to breed for starters when starting your small flock i sugest you need no more than 20 birds for a nice sized flock to begin with second get them from a breeder so you can know exactly whats behind their make up i know alot of breeders would not know but most of people on here do and i think could provide you with a good little history you only need to know at least what the mum and dad is to get a resonable idea the longer they been breeding the better recold you will get of the birds you receve id buy them all from the same breder as so they are all from the one place and dont run a high risk of illness but would still do the husbandry needed for birds health a good breeder should have enough unrelated stock to sell you violet birds can only come from violet bred stock so if their is no violets in the stock then you wont be breeding any yourself and birds holding the violet gene give you more chance of breeding a violet how ever their best breed back to a violet or a deep cobalt for any violets to apear visually their are many ways to breed violet birds and its a whole nother post so i wont go into it but macka theirs a whole lot of diffrents to a show stock and a pet type budgie as you say and like you said any good show breed bird always comes with papers if it has no papers then its not really any use to your stock to join any plan you may have however if your just breeding show stock for enjoyment not to bentch then .... each to their own not many show breeders keep recolds ive noticed and the ones that do make you feel like a pain in asking them for the history so haveing breed pets for comming on 4 years now for colour and mutation i understand the want to know exactly whats behind your birds its no diffrent to our want to know exactly what bloodlines our show stock hold sorry guys for the essay

Very Nervous Chick?
if mum lays just remove the eggs you are not killing anything as until the egg is sat on incubation does not take place it beats me why people think their killing chicks, and wont take/remove eggs when if you look at it their only killing their main breeders quicker and running them down by letting them sit hatch and raise chicks people apparently say they don't want a third round or i don't want her to lay personally i think if that's the case tossing eggs is not that hard its an egg its got a yoke not a fetus if you take it straight after laying so ..... this is not pointed at anyone particularly and just thought id put it here as you mentioned not wanting a third round was not meant toward you anne id say chick is fine just let mum do her thing dad also the other chicks will asist it in eatting and it will get feed when its hungry enough to ask just whatch mum and dad for agressive ness or if your really worryed leave the adult bird who is the main feeder /carer of chicks in box and remove the other

My Birds Are Unwell
If damp and rain gets in then its a MUST to put the birds through a course of coccivet. Coccivet should be kept in the medicine cabinet. Rain does not get in Kaz, but after a few days of rain it gets damp. I have just done the cleaning so I will dose all birds with coccivet today......thanks. my vet says that baycox is the best one for treatment of cocci i have heard this is not so ...but she said that its the one that they stand by i must say that it must work good as none of my birds had any cocci and i did have a out brake earlier this year if you remember where i treated the flock with baycox for cocci you treat them a bit closser together than coccivet but only for first two treatments then its back to every 6 months when you say your aviry gets damp anne how do you mean what kind of floor do you have darl and in awnser to what drinkers well their are verying types of drinkers avalible but ginni pig drinkers and you can get just the tip also and place your own bottles on im going to look at them so but at moment im crook as with the worst flu ever so wont be going anywhere it hurts just to be here i will let you know my out come of choise oh autopsy i get back on around new years day or 4th jan i will let you know what it was

My Birds Are Unwell
thank you anne im lucky i was not yet started my breeding plan as i could have lost birds that were part of that im lucky in the way that i just cut my birds back and kept only the best and a few undecideds so far it is only the undecided i lost so its as if it has been decided for me the good point or the silver linning to the cloud so to speak is that these are my chosen stock birds and bar a few i have already organized to be added to my flock next year i now know that they will all be healthy and given the vets okay all birds being added to flock will be going through a strict quarrenteen period and then a check up at the vets before relising into flock to prevent future out breaks of illness also i have been working on a new food plan and a rutine treatment plan to keep nastys at bay with out continues medicating but im still going through all this with my vet before i really start breeding in full swing i also want to provide new drinkers yet again as the ones i got are okay but still not suite able toprovide proper highen required

Olive Green Or Violet Green?
well my screen must be match to yours nubbly 5 but i was not game to go their as already two dark greens were given i hate to be told im wrong when i think i could be right also it does look cin and black on wings but i think this is due to spangleing myself i thought the cheek patches to be very dark to dark for a dark green this is my violet light green boy who just passed he looks very close in colour and had same cobalty blue sheen depending on light your bub could be dark green violet as mine is a light green violet put him to a cobalt hen you will find out for sure even to a grey hen you can see hes a more mustard green this gives it away along with the dark violet almost black patches on cheek so im going to say nothing more exept that mabe a few more photos of him in diffrent lights may help but his cheeks and colour to me suguested violet green as my boy here
