  19. GenericBlue replied to Rodiss's topic in Aviaries
Well I used untreated pine to make my aviaries and I painted it with non-toxic paint to ensure its longevity - However, my budgies still like to give it a good chew ... to no ill effects though cause it is safe. :grbud: Most paint is toxic to budgies ( and that can be compared to quantities ingested too ).......unless you bought child safe paint. The green paint you used is normal fence paint, water based, I believe. My budgies chew the paint in my aviary too. Wish I hadnt painted some surfaces........I may yet cover them....the ones they get at anyway yes kaz im in middle of covering wood painted with a mixed batch of thind down paint my dad used i have lost birds resently and i belive its to poisioning im getting all wood removed and replaced with untreated pine this week end and am covering all painted framework with metal plates washing it down thoroghly and putting a metal edgeing along the bottom of my newly paved terracota tiles as so birds can not get damp edging im a fraid birds may of had cocci or poisioning or both its undesided as yet so doing proventitive for both will find out soon which it was or if both but better to cover it now and be safe before returning birds to flight
  20. okay so this is elly short for ellyphant ...yes i know thats wrong spelling but was by choise this time lol this is elly next to her older sister by12 days their was 9 eggs but only three lived due to diffrent reasons breach dry eggs extra was my first try in bird room which failed very badly elly was second last egg to hatch :grbud: im glad she did she is going to be a stunner and a great stud hen just look at thoughs feet shes only 8 weks old this weekend

  22. very good rezult well done mate
  23. listen to kaz i lost birds from the try being missing they like snakes lol
  24. budgies do eat small bugs and things but not really all that much as macka said their got wrong beak for bug catching i tryed putting meal worms in aviry once the birds just were more interested in what they were a few pecked at them but no one ate any i came in next day and they were just crawling around floor just as many as i placed in so thats that meat out ...the birds will eat the odd spider why you need to keep them out of aviry is alot are poisonus to them if eaten and bugs with crunchy shells but they mostly just crunch them and thats it
