Culls and Helping the Purchaser
Perhaps instead of asking the questions you would like to explain how you do things? :laughter: That way this debate can be more inclusive instead of so one way. Renee..............you opened this "can of peas" all by yourself by your post. On the contrary Kaz, I am most interested in how you acquire Show budgies! Do you, like me, just buy direct from breeders and at auctions or do you still trawl the Pet Shops hoping to pick up a bargain for yourself or friend? im sorry but ren your oviously got a beef with someone and your taking it out all over the sight you dont keep recolds i know that or did i get your **** we both know the true answer their i will say you did pay basically the cost of my birds back to me so im not really complaining their as i knew bofore the got here what would happen to most of them yet if you had of been on the ball you would not of needed to refund me any money as for this comment thoughs good breeders wouldnt go digging around pet shops mate who do you think you are my goodness get your head out of your backside woman our clubs breeders all cull to one of the members petshops well i dont but the others do and if something is wanted then they are directed to the shop its good in the way that the birds are moved on for room and we all know the birds are worth looking at i dont buy alot from pet shops anymore but we have all Colin Flanagan culls in ours not the club members but here in warragul and other great breeders from around here and the only thing you will find wrong with the birds are they are not of colins handful stature the proportion the feather mask its all their 20.00 cant go wrong so i am finding your just a bit pompus and honestly i dont think ive seen much good come from your shed fine im not a show breeder as yet you call me backyard but mate we all start somewhere im telling you now before you look like a idiot id close this topic think about your birds what you are really breeding as you are in my opinion a pocket breeder splash out on top stuff breed it win with it and then buy out cross to breed with that thats not breeding thats babysitting someone elses birds and ringing their hard work im afraid you have anoyed me ren reading this im not sure who you are you seem quiet desterbed take it to the person not us

Hawk Problem
im sorry but why do you not just call the fisherys and wild life services they are their to protect and remove troublesome protected wild life such as your hawk numbers in the yellow pages even your local council would remove it ours does im pretty sure no need to kill it or frighten it its most probably got its own young in nest this time of year and looking for food why not place a few raw stakes or some brought dead snake food and hang it in an area away from your aviry for it to take it will then be fed and leave your birds alone and you could enjoy its majnesticness if thats even a word id give anything for a hawk to visit my home dayly i defently would not be frightening it away its truly a beautiful blessing your desperately trying to deture its a shame as they are fantastic birds have a heart and share your environment with this fantastic animal its only looking for a feed

Culls and Helping the Purchaser
Thats little rough Renee. So if you were given a super budgie from another breeder (say Cec Gearing) that he had bought in as an outcross from someone else, you wouldn't want to know its background. For the record, I'm happy to provide details to people in all instances as should all breeders that truley know their birds backgrounds mabe ren you just dont keep detail records and this is just one way to opt out of needing to as its pretty lame i must say for you to write a coment that you are not willing to help others if they dont give you the gold in your pocket and also putting a notice out their that anything brought from pet shop of yours is **** and wont breed or what ever as you put it good luck trying with it well that puts me off buying anything from you at all for your own self if i was you i would just stop while you are a head before you sink your ship and for record i never got any background for any the birds i got from you hence why i sold most on paper work helps alot the rezult of my resent chicks proves this i was able to see who was what and how far back their fore useing this info to my advantage to keep line pure in a few cases

Eye Infection
hay my advice is my own thoughts I AM NOT A VET AND I HAVE NOT SEEN YOUR BIRD IN PERSON but in saying that i stand by what i say i would with a sterile syringe (from a hospital chemist or where ever but brand new out the pack) with the needle part pop so that the liquard leeches out same as a feather cyst splat just a fine **** dont squeeze it though like you would a cyst then bath the popped blister with warm water with a drop of Bernadene i would hate for you to lose a bird as everyone says listen to gb so splat are their other breeders around your house you could ring to come out take a look at her as i would do that first other wize if was me but im different to most breeders id just pop it and treat it like it was a human thats what i mostly do with all animals i come across most live but some do not ...go with your gut i always do

thanks amy this bird is very nice he has a short top feather but im told he is geneticlly holding a very large top feather to pass on he is very beautiful so i decided that i will get him a very nice hen with tall feather on top ,wide and of the dark factor intill then he can enjoy time alone in my quarenteen cage im going to start looking around for right hen now alfter all he did breed some nice chicks id be stupid not to try him not one he breed had clubed wing so ..

-
New Bird To My Aviry
no but it may not come out for a few generations dave so im not sure i want to put birds in unless i can see their going to not be depromental to future birds i dont want to sell a bird one day and someone end up with a genetic floor in their stud through me if i know their is a slight risk of passing on a bad trate id rather pass one the bird out of my stud i know i may never know what some birds might have hidden genetically but if i know that possibly something could be in the mix then i would rather have the knowledge of it not one day find out from word of mouth not when i pair a good bird to it and find out from results of chicks
-
Rec Violet Mop ?
it looks like it is Opaline to me sorry i said cock as you said rec / opaline i thought you ment it was split to opaline ...their for only could be cock but i now see what you wrote you were saying it was rec pied Opaline  hen sorry its late i should be sleeping she is beautiful i love the heavy v on her no heavy marked hens are not from rec to rec breeding just from poorly marked pairings usually as in badly marked or one peront badly marked but im not sure i know i was told only breed rec to rec unless the out cross normal is a Superior bird to get splits
-
New Bird To My Aviry
sorry it took so long here is front picture not sure if i will use this boy after all really need to think about my options he has one small fault but it could pass on genetically im to believe one side his wings 3 feathers seem to have grown with a club ed effect look like a shark fin look one three feathers only apart from that he is fantastic so,.... now i contenplate do i want to risk that genetic fault getting into my flock i will get picture of it when i can hers him like promised
-
Eye Infection
that does look nasty splat i can see her eye is clear in picture myself and this is just me  i would get a very sterile doctors blade and if it was liquard bubble which looks like it is i would splice it very lightly and let it bleed the liquard out and then i would flush it with a solution made up of boiled warm water a tabble spoon to one drop of benideen liquard id bath it with that dayly morn and night for two days if the bubble flared up again i would then class it as very serious and vet s to get it removed it looks like a spider bite to me or a sty thats what i would do looking at it my idea with birds is what would you do if it was your child  and you were in bush with no doc for miles as it seems to be a blister type thing well i would burst blister of my own or childs and bath it with salt water or better if on hand watered down benadeen good luck i dont see docy fixing it truly but im not a vet
